  1. Yeah, that always gets me when I see that in connection with a DUI (and we've had many of them over the years -- usually players, who get off fairly light). We're not talking about jaywalking here. Maybe I'm just not around a lot of people who drink much (or at all). It concerns me that there might be many people who look at this and think it's just normal shenanigans. That would have to mean a lot of dangerous, dangerous drivers on the roads. People who probably should be in jail if a revoked license isn't sufficient. I agree, with my friends, I would be surprised if any drove around drunk. I could guess which have, but, maybe 15%, opposed to 90.
  2. An accident was caused by his drinking and driving, his third offense. Ignoring other legal charges, if a death had occurred in it, I think more folks on here would be calling for his job and not defending him. That's ignoring the other legal ramifications, as well. Obviously, those other legal ramifications would lead to him being fired. I understand both arguments and their sides. I'm leaning more towards that we should fire him. If he is required jail time for 60 days, fire him. If you have ever been a new coach (head of receivers), it takes time to build trust. If the prior coach shows up after not being seen by players for two months and he's the guy again, we will see a set back in receiver play. HCMR and the administration at UNL will follow their handbooks, discuss everything, and make a decision on what they think the best move for the program moving forward is. Also, some posters have estimated that 90% of the board has driven at the same legal limit, or more than he has? That's a bit ridiculous, and if you think that is how everyone lives, you need new friends.
  3. Riley will play the best guy, every game, as his neck is on the line. LOL his neck is on the line. Maybe your line. Even if this year flubs again, he's got another 2 before his neck is on the line. Whether Riley is going to be fired or not, the AD should tell him to play the young guys. Period. end of discussion. Seniors can and should play if the team is competing for championships / upper half of the bowls, etc. but once the losing season becomes apparent, then you double down on the 'backups to the future' program. So, at what point should your genius plan kick in? After the first loss because we probably won't be in the NC hunt? After the second....third???When? If I was an underclassman, and I saw the coaches not playing the seniors just because the team wasn't doing well, I would probably transfer. It would be quite the thank you to the seniors, who have been playing hard for four years to just be benched and not play. We aren't going to be in one of the upper bowls? Sorry, Jordan Westercamp, you're benched. If that happens, I would be upset.

I agree that we should look for ways to get young players meaningful experience. Did you mean not to play seniors at all, or just to get young guys in the game?
  5. If POB was ready, he would be up there. Takes time to learn the offense, then, the pace of the game is much faster than high school. Let him have a year or two to be ready to take over.
  6. That's fine, but conversely, I just don't understand the hesitancy towards it. College football proves, every single year, that there is no correlation between past head coaching experience or success and future success. It just doesn't exist. For every Nick Saban there's a Tommy Tuberville. For every Will Muschamp there's a Bob Stoops. For every Art Briles there's a Chip Kelly. For every Urban Meyer there's a Brady Hoke. Not disagreeing, but we also don't know that Scott would be a stud as a coach. Might be a dud. We can't really know unless one has a chance.
  7. This is more attention for Nebraska, at least.
  8. I read an article earlier that the Wisconsin punter is changing his number to match Sam's out of respect. Great if it is true.
  9. I wouldn't think it would cause them to implode with it happening now verses a week before game time. Hopefully, they wrap their heads around the major, unfortunate loss, and find a way as a team to play harder for him.
  10. I think we have a tougher season on our hands than some posters are saying. Many people forget, it takes a while to build the "win" mentality. When a team has built that tradition over years, it builds extra confidence (even when it shouldn't be there talent-wise really). Oregan will come in with that mentality. Teams who beat us last year, know they can beat us if they play well. This season is no gimme. Just because they have that mentality, doesn't mean they will beat us, but they will be ready for us. I wouldn't be surprised at all by a 7-win season. I also wouldn't be surprised by a 10-win season. Pass defense, Tommy, play calls, will all dictate how this season goes. I don't see our pass defense being great, but I can't imagine it will be hard to improve upon last years team. Tommy should improve, but won't if play calling doesn't improve. It isn't his fault if plays aren't called to his strengths, and if we expect him to pass way too much like most of last year.
  11. I wasn't a fan of the move originally, but now, there isn't a reason to go back. Teams we were rivals with in the past, simply aren't as good, plus financial reasons.
  12. We all know concussions can be dangerous. We also know that a first concussion can cause harm, long-term. Should we just ban football altogether and every other sport? Or should we teach how to try to prevent concussions?
  13. It is possible to practic tackling without full tackles. Teach how to wrap up, hit low, and where to place the head. Tackling will still happen in practice, just less often. As someone above posted, it may hurt the offense. I think it would hurt the offensive players more than the defensive players.
  14. I went to the NE vs Indiana basketball game this year and was shocked on how many tv timeouts there were. Obviously, during the game, both teams have the same amount of time to make adjustments, but doesn't it hurt preparing for a game? You make a good plan for the game, now the other team has more free timeouts to make adjustments.
  15. I agree with 1995, games are a factor to consider here. Win a game or to where people didn't expect you to, and the team confidence goes up. Lose a game or two you shouldn't (look at last season) and confidence dwindles and you are trying to motivate players to get up and be ready for the next game and hope they respond well. In the running game, hopefully we see different backs excel. I know some posters always post how we need to run the ball more, but, if we aren't doing it well it isn't logical to run more. For example, Cross running sweeps didn't play to his strengths. If we can play to our running backs strengths, it opens up the pass game much more and wears on a defense.
  16. Did they forget about Johnny Stanton he was a Elite 11 - 4 Star QB. Wasn't he compared to Tim Tebow, opposed to a passing QB? I may be remembering incorrectly though, I thought he was recruited as a dual threat rather than a passing qb.
  17. Only downside would be an injury, IMO. Being active in other sports helps in HS, and surely, the benefits are there at the collegient level.
  18. I don't agree with any of the OP's list of what is acceptable of cheating. I do know that many colleges do these things, but I disagree with them. On the textbook issue that happened a few years ago, couldn't there be a way to counter this somehow, to prevent selling the books back right away? In my opinion, it shouldn't be against the rules to get free textbooks (but this is easily abused), but there should be someway to counter it. Example, what if student athletes received locked-down nooks or kindle fires (surely, this is possible), and their textbooks were accessed as an ebook? No selling the books back, they have to take care of their device and pay for damages (which, is less than their textbook fees would be). Not sure if these devices all have finger print scanners, but if they do, that would be helpful in preventing them from sharing their textbooks with other students on their devices. I think the NCAA should look into the textbook issue and try to find ways to solve that problem. Academics are the priority when compared to sports.
  19. I think it comes down to who gets up 14-0 first. 15 gets up first, I'd say the 14 team caves. 14 gets up, I think it is close and 14 wins. If it stays close throughout, I think it is a toss up. Both coaches haven't been incredibly stellar to say one year vs the other would make a huge impact. I think Bo's team would give up, though, if 15 gets an early lead.
  20. And travelling was called if you took more than two steps while shooting!!!!! Shoot, not even just two steps traveling calls. At the Nebraska vs Indiana game there were a ton of moving pivot feet travels missed. Though, I would never want to be a ref, because it is hard to see everything, and watching pivot feet while trying to watch for everything else must be difficult.
  21. 247sports isn't the best source for information always. "Gamelan" seriously, a typo online that hasn't been fixed by now?
  22. Good information. Maybe try screenshotting it on your computer and uploading it as an image? Good work with the stats, keep it up.
