  1. Sorry to say, you are wrong. With title IX in place, all of those "bottom feeder" sports must exist. There is no way around it as the rules of Title IX says they have to be in place. Equal opportunity for both men and women has to be in place or the men's programs go away (men's gymnastics at NU for example). Title IX does not care where the funding comes from, only about the equality. Every sport could show a loss, including football, and you would still need to have equal opportunity, as it should be.
  2. Yes, football drives the opportunities in other sports due to the revenue produced. But, you would still need to provide equality in sports, regardless of revenue and regardless of how the football team performs. And, do it at the same level due to Title IX. That does not mean much more than that. And yes, we have been a bad/lost football program for well over 2 decades now. Championships will change my mind.
  3. Being good or bad at football is a moot point. If so, since we have been bad at football for going on 22 years now, how did we exist or sustain anything? Yes, football drives the revenue. Then again, very few athletic departments in the country do not pull funds from the general fund of their Universities, the vast majority do. Title IX does not care where the revenue comes from, as long as it is proportional to both male and female athletes as far as opportunity goes.
  4. As a father of a HS athlete (male) and a HS athlete (female), there are a lot of posters here who need to put themselves in the shoes of parents of student athletes as well as the athletes themselves. Some of these comments almost make me sick and it is not like Title IX has not been around and functioning for a long time. Men and women athletes should have the exact same opportunities, across the board, period. End of story. Anything less than this is unacceptable. Why don't they just give John Cook more bodies? Maybe he doesn't want them? Maybe it is hard enough keeping scholarship players around if they are not getting the playing time. Arbitrarily boosting numbers in another sport to "help" football is ridiculous. It has to been done with a reason and purpose, not just throwing things out there and hoping they stick. In case you missed it, Volleyball has been THE sport at UNL over the last several decades. Ever since football got lost in the quagmire we are in, Volleyball has carried the state, carried the torch, and those ladies are unreal to go and watch. John Cook has built a dynasty here at Nebraska and he should get anything and everything he wants. There is NO other Volleyball program in the country that made any revenue the last few seasons except Nebraska. That says a lot for the fans and it also says a lot about what is going on here. Nebraska is turning into a mecca of high school and club volleyball. Go check it out if you have not, but there are girls from Nebraska, who are going to school at D-1 Universities to play Volleyball that John does not have room for. We have something special going on in Nebraska with Volleyball and don't lose sight of that. Until Football can be anything but a bottom feeder, lets talk up and boost up the sports which continually do what they do. It has been a over 2 decades since the Nebraska football team has made people say WOW. We may be going towards that again, but until it happens, NU Volleyball and the work that John Cook has done should make us all proud. NU is a Volleyball school.
  5. Top game ever was the 1996 Fiesta Bowl. We spent the entire day at the stadium prior to the game at the "Tostitos" tailgate and the game was unreal. NU fans came and represented well that night. The 1988 NU vs Colorado game in Lincoln was awesome. We won 7-0 on a very cold day. Eric Biennemy was running for a TD and dropped the ball with no one close to him. NU shut that drive down an won a slobber knocker of a game. Best away game: 1995 game at KU. They were ranked (maybe undefeated) and felt they were going to get the W. Not even close. 2nd best away game: 1983 game at OU. Was soaked from the rain, won the game to go play in the Orange Bowl vs Miami. By most of the comments, you can really tell how young most of those on this board really are. No offense, but any game over the last 20 years is nothing to get excited about, sorry to say.
  6. My son is 17 and a huge Husker football fan. He keeps waiting.......and waiting......and waiting......to see the team do anything significant. I talk about how it was in the 80's and 90's and he has never even had a sniff of what that was like. After 2 decades of being an after thought in college football, it is going to be very hard to be relevant again....IMO
  7. UNL can have all the contingency plans in place they want to have, but at the end of the day ABC is going to say what is going to happen. Once the Big10 sold the media rights, all we can do is ask and the rights holders (TV networks) can do what they want.
  8. As the wording is on the UNL website: Tobacco-free in 2018 Beginning January 1, 2018, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will be smoke-free, tobacco-free and vapor free.
  9. I don't know how many are impacted by this, but as of January 1, 2018 not only can't you smoke in the stadium, but you are not allowed to smoke anywhere on the UNL campus, even outside the stadium. I'd guess that the closest place to go, to get off campus, would be north of the stadium. It does not impact me, as I am not a smoker, but there are a LOT of people who are that attend games and they will be impacted. I know that information about needing a clear bag came with my season tickets, but I did not look to see if this was spelled out. Just passing along before Saturday. 10. Foster and Gates honorable mention? WTH did anyone see in them that I missed. Maybe if they had an under achieving team, they would both be on it. SMH
  11. You are joking right? Practice squad invites at the very best. Drew Brown maybe a late round pick. NFL talent, that is rich
  12. And so it begins......https://mobile.twitter.com/Bookie_44/status/925516932744384512/photo/1
  13. I get that and I was not trying to make any point, other than tickets are gonna be available and the streak will need help. Don’t look Ethel
  14. Last Friday I looked and UNL has tickets available for the Northwestern and Iowa games. Only about 30 for Northwestern but over 100 vs Iowa. $75 a pop for crappy seats is tough when the secondary market is so much cheaper for better seats. I am sure the donors will pull through again to keep the streak alive. Hip Hip Hooray
  15. The main positive of this season? Is that it is close to being done in another few weeks. Our program (i.e. Dumpster Fire) is like the bad part of a neighborhood which a realtor does not want you to see.....move along, nothing to see here. SE being gone is a positive. A very few shining bright spots by a few players is encouraging. That is about it....Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray
  16. What draw? it is their alma mater, it is their school, their team. I was in school and graduate school at UNL for 7 years and even during fall break, I did not miss games. It was THE thing to do, to be at the game. Even if we made plans for fall break, we did not leave until after the game. If the students are not even committed to being at the game, fall break or not, they have no business being upset that their little black out did not go as planned.
  17. Outside of the personal attack, you don't have any comments on what I stated? My butt was in my seat until midway through the 4th quarter. My son and I were dressed in RED, our school colors, and cheered as best we could that night. As a 20+ year season ticket holder, i hold a fairly good perspective of what I have seen in the stadium over the years.
  18. My point is/was......the students could not even fill their sections for tOSU game. Both the south and east sides were well below capacity. So, the rest of the stadium should take their "lead" when they want to do a gimmick, like a black out game? Ha ! The students complain about their seating yadda yadda yadda, the students want a black out yadda yadda yadda, but they don't even show up for a game like tOSU game? Yeah, many other left that dumpster fire early, but at least they were there, unlike the student section. Are we gonna need safe spaces soon to get them there? Maybe hand out crayons and play doh for them too?
  19. Why is it even important? 11am, 7pm.....does it matter? Tickets are already less than $30 on Stub Hub.
  20. Kinda like when the students did not even show up for tOSU Game and were mostly gone by the third quarter......yeah, let’s listen to them.
  21. Newest sign up in downtown Lincoln. Sorry, I did not see the previous posting of this. The natives are getting restless.
  22. The "Norris Kid" is Brendan Stai's son. Strong connections to those at Ohio. As an ex Husker player, would you send your kid to NU right now?
  23. If you listen to grandpa Riley, he is right on track.......SMH
  24. After the loss, Mike Riley gives the boys sprinkles on their ice cream, just to change things up and see if it works.
  25. You would think that the tickets for the football games come with a disease attached as much as people are trying to part ways with them. NEVER have seen ticket prices, for a prime opponent, going for so low. Sure, every game you can find the game time deals at dumpster fire prices, but the entire rest of the season has hit that dumpster fire price range. You could see the rest of our home games, not at the top of the stadium, for about $50 total.....Crazy to even think that.
