  1. Most of the plug and play teams have an established and successful scheme with kids who have been in it for years and they are loaded with talent so it makes that easier. I think the scheme is ok Nebraska just has to execute it better and stop with the stinking mistakes and penalties. Nebraska has talent and if we can ever get things to click the team can take a huge jump. I just think that our senior/junior classes are still really weak and the fact they are consistenly the ones committing mistakes makes it worse. We're depending a lot on freshmen, sophomores and true juniors and hopefully we can work through growing pains and take a jump soon.
  2. This is and many of the other points about how the Huskers outplayed NW is what makes that game so freaking frustrating. Outside of the scoreboard, which is the only thing that matters, NU crushed NW. If they just finished drives that game would have never been close.
  3. I agree with you on all points, but for context on the second one those young receivers outside of Brown missed practice and so he didn't have the off season or fall camp to teach them as they weren't there. He made reference today to them being explosive and they are trying to fast track them now. So, hopefully we see more and more of those guys soon.
  4. One thing that would help both of our QBs regardless of who is in is if the RB was the leading rusher in the game for once... AM has been our leading rusher in more than half of the games dating back to last year. Mills has only led in rushing twice. Once against NIU and then Wisconsin. Otherwise he was out rushed by AM or Wan'Dale or others. He was 3rd in rushing more than he led the team. For comparison in 2017, as good of a rusher as Milton was, he led the team in rushing twice and Vedral led it once in a blowout. He was second several times, but he frequently had games with only a few rushes for less than 20 yards. We need a running game/running back to emerge that isn't AM or LM. Our starting QB can't be our starting RB too if we are going to have major offensive success.
  5. I agree with you. The fact that our QBs are the leading rushers over and over again is honestly a problem.
  6. Obviously, the comment Frost made today about young guys not knowing the playbook makes this tougher, but this is spot on. If you can cover those walk on guys one on one it makes it easy to not only double team Wan'Dale to take him away, but also makes it easier to stuff the box and stop the run.
  7. I can't pretend that I know schemes and play calling well enough to really answer this, but unfortunately so far that Wisconsin game is the exception and not the rules for Mills. More often than not he seems to average around 3 yards a carry and maybe that's play calling. To my eyes though he seems to miss holes and isn't a game breaker that NU needs to make Frost's offense work. I hope he makes it work, but he doesn't seem to have the vision to make things work like I think we need. I could be wrong but that's what i see.
  8. The thing that got me is we didn't even use the backup center we moved Matt over instead of Will so I'm guessing Will is actually down the line a bit. I know that Matt is supposed to know every position, but not practicing that position everyday makes it harder to make the calls. We really need a two deep on the OL that doesn't necessitate shifting guys from their position.
  9. Ya if you watch that play I think an incompletion was your best case scenario. Luke was trying hit the TE I think and he had a guy draped all over him. Our inability to get into the endzone is just ridiculous. We cut through NW all day and then stalled in the red zone. The RB issue you mention is spot on and I don't think Mills is gonna get it done. Martinez was our leading rusher again and LM was third. Mills put up 59 yards on 19 carries. Yes in Frost's offense you want the QB being a major run threat, but if AM or LM put up 80, 90 100 yards then the RB should be putting up another 100, 150, or more. Until our QB stops being our leading rusher every week we'll struggle in the redzone because it's easier to stop the QB run down there than in the middle of the field.
  10. I mean Undone said stupid INTs and throwing a pass into the back of one of your lineman's helmets is pretty stupid.
  11. The difference between Reimer flying through the hold, hitting and wrapping up the man and Colin Miller tip toeing his way in there to help finish the tackle tells you everything you need to know about upgrading our LB talent.
  12. At this point I'm basically calm and numb. I'll watch games and hope we play better, but I give up on any expectations anymore. I'll watch Nebraska like I do the Wyoming Cowboys, expect to lose but glad when we win. I still think Frost can figure it out, but if he doesn't we'll be back to square one. At this point no successful or hot coach will want to come here to coach. If Frost doesn't get it figured out our best hope is we hire some young coach who decides to stick around instead of using NU as a stepping stone now. Don't have much hope for that. If Frost isn't it, NU is just a bottom of the barrel power 5 team now.
  13. Watching Gebbia play so far tonight I'm starting to think AM beating him out didn't mean a lot. Honestly they both look bad today.
  14. Time to play the young guys. Enough with the walk on wide receivers. Put Betts, Brown and Flemming in they've made more plays each than the walk ons combined. Who gives a crap if they can't block. What's gonna happen we lose ugly? Already there. Same on defense. More Farmer and others. Dismuke can't tackle and honestly Bootle just jogs over later and taps the guy on the ground.
  15. I don't know how you don't go with McCaffrey until he proves he's not the guy now. Martinez's throwing today was just bad.
  16. There's talent on this team but half of it is sitting on the bench for whatever reason. That needs to change but the young talented guys it. What's the worst that can happen at this point you can't lose uglier than that.
  17. I believe someone described him as the Sipple for Wisconsin, so yes haha.
  18. Three Husker defenders in the backfield when he makes the tackle. The rest of the line/LBs are either at the line of scrimmage or within a yard and beating their blocks. These the are the sort of things we haven't seen on our DL in a long time and against a lesser OL it'll be a huge win.
  19. It took them weeks to figure out a COP/C vote on getting the season back, but they got all those busy people together to vote in less than 24 hours for this game? Come on none of this makes sense.
  20. If this actually happens it means that NU has had potential back up games basically planned out and just have to finalize things like travel, TV, etc. I am still skeptical anything happens, but where there's smoke...
  21. If our DL can consistently get penetration like that it will wreak havoc on opponents run games. We need a pass rush though.
  22. Was worried about this. If this is the case though Wisconsin could be looking at missing their next three right?
  23. Rewatching his runs from this weekend it almost looked like he has a Le'veon Bell running style. He really seemed to be able to wait for a hole to develop and then hit it hard once it opened. They called out Jahkeem Green last year too on playbook and getting in shape and I think some others.
  24. I think hyperextended knees hurt pretty bad and he looked like he was in a lot of pain so that makes sense with the recovery time.
  25. I must have been thinking of something else. I swore I heard they had position rules, but I can't find anything about it so I must have been thinking of the Big 12.
