Future looks bright: Comparing Martinez 2018 stats to Milton
Dogs In A Pile replied to cheekygeek's topic in Husker Football
AM has lived up to the all the hype that came with him and exceeded it so far IMHO. And is great addition to the school and team. I look forward to another 3 1/2 years with him at the helm. The thing that has probably surprised me the most is his ability to throw deep. Man, does he deliver a beautiful ball when he has time. We've had so many QB's in the past years who would have a wide open receiver downfield and under throw, over throw or just plain miss them. AM more times than not just hit them in stride. -
Dedrick Young Recipient of Brook Berringer Scholarship

Congratulations to Dedrick. It is a very high honor to achieve and should be a source of pride to the young man. -
What if Nebraska has TWO games canceled this year?
Dogs In A Pile replied to knapplc's topic in Husker Football
Could very well mean an 0-10 season if that were to happen. I agree that the payday would seem to be a stroke of good fortune for them but who knows if they can stay afloat that long. -
Call your shot: How many wins left?
Dogs In A Pile replied to Head Coach Scott Frost's topic in Husker Football
I picked 1, B-C. Until the team shows it can actually win and not give away the games I can't pick them to win more than the FCS opponent. This team should be 3-3 or 4-2 but just can't get out of its own way. I think they turn it around at some point, just not sure if it is this year. Still have 100% faith in Frost over the long haul but it could 3-4 years to get things back on track I'm afraid. -
Minn - 35 Nebr - 31 Rushing - 151 Passing - 240 NU penalties - At least 10 for more than 100 yrds. NU turnovers - At least 3

Noah Vedral now eligible, traveled to Northwestern
Dogs In A Pile replied to ColoradoHusk's topic in Husker Football
Since he wasn't going to be eligible this year I assume he has running the scout team. I don't see any way he is the #2 QB since he hasn't been taking any snaps with the #1 & #2 offense and hasn't been involved with the game plans. He has to be the #3 emergency QB if the unthinkable happens and AM & AB go down. -
We will have a pretty good chance against Bethune-Cookman although I feel even that is not an automatic by any means considering the type of play this team has shown this year. If they overlook them, continue with the costly penalties and dumb mistakes that could be a very embarrassing loss. Beyond that I'm not confident we can beat any of the remaining teams on the schedule. OSU, no chance. Northwestern, MSU & Iowa, slim to no chance. Illinois and Minn, a chance if they can play a near perfect game. 0-12, not likely but possible, 1-11 is very possible, 2-10 is the most likely IMHO and 3-9 if they get things fall into place and they get lucky. Anything better than that is a pipe dream.

Losing 9 straight games and 11 of the last 12 will do that. Surprised we aren't even lower and would have a hard time arguing with it if we were.

Next year at the earliest. Expect around 10 or more penalties and 100 yrds or more the rest of this season. But don't expect squeaky clean games from a Frost coached team. His UCF teams averaged pretty high penalties in his 2 years there. And I'm pretty sure Frost and his staff are aware of the penalty situation with the implications they have on the outcome of the game. I also believe they trying to make improvements to the best of their abilities. And with are severe lack of depth in position groups like OL just benching a player(s) and throwing in the next body in line isn't going to have very positive results I'm afraid.

They mentioned on Sip & Jake or Sharp & Benning fairly recently that Sean Beckton was continually having to fend off the line coaches trying to get him for OL duty. I guess the line coaches won out. I think it is a good move as long as he is on board with it. Lord knows we need help there and next year is going to be worse due to graduation.

And ST breakdown. Off course.

Penalties 2 for 10 yrds

Good stop but if the D is out on the field for half a quarter at a time they will be exhausted by the second half.
-
Great point that gets lost. From what I've read and understand, no way will they be able to hit 85 with the existing and anticipated attrition. This is going to be a killer down the road as it is a sort of self inflicted probation where you don't fill all scholarships available. But some of the previous regimes did this on a regular basis so it is kind of the norm at DONU.

*** 2018 Game 5 "Expert" Picks: Nebraska At Wisconsin ***
Dogs In A Pile replied to Saunders's topic in Husker Football
I really don't expect much improvement in either penalties or turnover margin until next year at the earliest although I hope I'm wrong. Expecting this game to get out of hand at some point and after it does we will be taken to the woodshed one more time. Could be along the lines of the Michigan game IMHO. But Wis. likes to play a very ball control offense so maybe they will eat up the clock and we can keep it under 50 points (unless the D gives up a bunch of big plays). -

Listening to Sip & Jake yesterday and there was some of speculation about him not being back next year. Looks like it happened a little sooner than that.

Monday after Purdue is going to be interesting
Dogs In A Pile replied to knapplc's topic in Husker Football
Yeah. It's not like this team is exactly overflowing with All American or All B1G talent. Especially the ones who have been benched. Probably just as likely anyone who would decide to leave would end up at a FCS school or a P5 school at best. -
Will we beat Bethune Cookman?
Dogs In A Pile replied to California Husker's topic in Husker Football
I would hope we could beat B-C even if we have the usual double digit penalties for over 100 yrds and a turnover or three. Beyond that, I think all the other games are potential losses. -

*** 2018 Game 4 "Expert" Picks: Purdue At Nebraska ***
Dogs In A Pile replied to Saunders's topic in Husker Football
The fans have become accustomed to losing so another one won't be much of surprise and won't be a meltdown IMHO. They have been a better team than NU recently with as good of talent as we have so a loss won't shock anybody. Now, if Bethune-Cookman takes us to the woodshed there will definitely be a meltdown. Don't think that will happen but after watching the last two games I'm not ruling out anything.
