In light of the Urban Meyer cover-up news, do you think Osborne would have survived the 90's as head coach if it was in today's time of social media and hot takes? At the very least, without proper context and from the outside in, some of his behavior looks ~very~ morally suspicious.

I think we'll have to disagree JJ - during that time the pressure for NE FB (and TO in particular) to finally win the big one was significant. I don't doubt that Tom did many good things, and is a good man. I also don't doubt that while he wanted to help kids, and LP inparticular, there's no way that kid stays on the team if he wasn't the RB he was and didn't have the skills to get the big win for the state.

@NM11046 I won't argue with you on that point but it's sort of a straw man argument. 1- We don't know how TO would've dealt with it with a lesser player because it didn't happen and 2- of all the positions on the team RB (or IB at the that time) was the least likely to have a lesser skilled player involved and I don't recall RB being a place we typically played or even had walk-ons. So framing the argument that way really is not fair. But yeah I'll agree, if LP hadn't been the talent he was, he likely would've received a much shorter leash. That pretty much goes without saying and should be expected. I don't think that makes TO's decisions any more morally questionable or less driven to do what was in the player's best interest. But at some diminishing point of return, no it wouldn't have been worth it. The thing is we really didn't need LP, as good as he was, because there were at least 2 more than capable RB's behind him. I just tend to take TO at his word and he explains it really well in his book. I'm a believer anyways.
