  1. Actually not a lot. A few HC's were taking over play calling in the last few years to be more in the game. The HC slot is moving more into a CEO type role, basically, the person that can have the vision and find the talent to make it happen.
  2. I am so is Chancellor Green and President Bounds. There is no shame in that either.
  3. Seems about right, this is supposed to be from around 1985, I would have been 10. About that time we took a field trip to the Hastings Museum and stopped at McDs for lunch. For some reason my parents gave me more money than I needed so I ordered a Big Mac, I was stunned at how big it was and didn't come close to finishing.
  4. Even if he splits that and doesn't get a Bo level blowout in the other two, I think he gets another year. Everyone saying he's gone, remember we all thought Bo was done when SE was hired.
  5. Anyone here have stressful points at work, or a high-stress job in general? Mine isn't a peach most days and I can tell you breaking focus for a quick second is massively beneficial in regrouping and maintaining focus over a long period of time. Little breaks and moments of levity, like this, should be encouraged and I was happy to see it.
  6. This trickles down. Overall participation in HS football is way down, except in the South. Even Nebraska is off by more than 20% since its peak in the 90s. Unless all levels get out front on head safety this sport is doomed. It only takes one State to ban football (or at least contact) and all the chips will eventually fall. Don't laugh, the thought of a State banning football might seem impossible, that is what most people thought about indoor smoking bans in the early 90's, once California did, it was only a matter of time.
  7. To be fair this has been an ongoing philosophy in CFB for a decade or more now. Reps are reps and reps=better play. While that idea seems to be fading slowly you still see many games that are well in-hand with the #1's still playing. Were this another Bo type hire I think people would be defending him and hanging it on "he's learning". Problem is MR was sold as the turnkey package, the guy that has all the talent and ability and was held back by the lack of facilities and money. He was expected to hit the ground running, IMO the jury is still out on that although it is not looking good.
  8. Nope. We've hated them all. Worst fans ever, might as well lock up the stadium and call it a day.
  9. Trev seems to be a good administrator with a track record of making tough choices. Although if you ask die-hard UNO fans you'll get a different story with the handling of the Football and Wrestling teams being canceled via text message IIRC. I still think he'd bring in quality people and be level heading and even-handed. Obviously, his pedigree will play well with boosters. As for coaching, no, you scratched the surface on that. Dabo, Jimbo, Saben, none have any previous tie to their current posts. Meyer is an Ohio kid but didn't play at tOSU (he got his grad degree there). A good coach is just that, while some fit better in places, I have no doubt that any of the top 5-6 coaches in the country would have success at pretty much any P5 school ETA: Remember Frost didn't have the smoothest time here. He was widely seen as a traitor for going to Stanford, then returning hat in hand once TO got things rolling. I remember he was booed off the field. He is unproven in the big seat, while I'd like to see a native son come back and get things rolling.
  10. For me it was never the ruling, it's the feeling (maybe fact) that had the roles been reversed the play would've never been reviewed. Also, I believe the review of that play was outside the bounds of what was reviewable by the Big 12 at that time, although it's been so long I can't remember if that was true or not at this point.
  11. Good lord, it's so easy! Send a note to HCMR right now! Speedtburn for AD!
  12. Maybe we perceive it differently. Major Applewhite once said out O "isn't rocket science" while that was perceived as a dig at TO, it was a compliment. Tom beat you by beating on you, we didn't outrun you or gimmick you, we ran right at you, again, again again and again until you finally broke.
  13. LOL. The media is just reinforcing the narrative of SE needed to go. If HRMR won 11 games last year, was in the playoffs and looked to repeat it this year all of this would be spun in a positive. Doesn't meet with coaches, becomes doesn't micromanage the programs, he's a big picture guy and lets the coaches do their job. Booster upset about him being standoffish, becomes SE not bowing to booster money. Doesn't speak to the media, is hard ot get ahold of, becomes he's the man behind the curtain that doesn't want to draw away from the students on the field. Was firing him the right choice? I sure hope so, make no mistake the media is complicit in supporting the narrative UNL wants to generate.
  14. 7 wins if he splits Wiscy and tOSU. Get a Bo level blowout in both of those, God help him.
  15. Will we ever stop with this? I give TO all the respect for what he did on the sidelines, that was two decades ago. Let the man be and let this program move on.
  16. Cally was an eleventh-hour hire after Steveo completely botched Solich's firing. SP was very much incorrect in his thinking that we are Nebraska and anyone would fall at our feet to coach here. Gotta agree with you about BP, in fact, were TO still the AD I have little doubt he'd still be the HC. Riley was the safe hire. He was well respected among football wonks and nerds, even though not well-known outside of that realm. His age precludes him from being here for more than 5-7 years. Were he to turn the team around he'd announce an heir apparent and retire, if it goes poorly he decides he's to old for this and steps down.
  17. Tanner Lee. Loads of hype and little to back it up with.
  18. Jim Haslett? Cincy LB coach.. Consulted Penn State in 2015, few HC jobs DC for Redskins... Couldn't make that jump to HC, Nebraska would probs be a better gig than what he is doing now... And he's good, just kinda sitting there for the picking
  19. Great game... Dabo is a class act through and through...
  20. Penn State is coming off the worst scandal in College Sports history, they won the B1G and are #5 in the Nation. Glad we can compete for a West title with in three years.
  21. Kind of like how Tom Osborne was a perfect hire for NU in 1972. While Osborne wasn't a NU grad, he was a native Nebraskan who was in the right place in the right time to take over for Devaney. NU has been trying to fill those shoes for 20 years. Umm what? Tom was with the program since '64, was a proven OC by '72
  22. It is kinda simple. The folksy undercurrent of the nice guy that wants to come here for low money and coach for the honor of being at Nebraska needs to go away. We do not need the next Jimbo Fisher, David Shaw or Tom Herman, we need Jimbo Fisher, David Shaw or Tom Herman. A proven HC that will cut another program to the bone to lose. I haven't given up on MR but his hire is the ultimate hedge. In 4-5 years if we are still winning nine games but losing the big ones, he announces his retirement. If he is has really turned us around that extends out two maybe four years.
  23. Restrict campaign donations to $X ($100?) per candidate per social security number This is already law. You are capped at $2700 in direct donations for any Federal Campaign.
  24. Great article. It seems Nebraska-Wisconsin could develop into a rivalry. We need to start winning more than a few of these first though.
