  1. I can understand TO wanting to make the most educated decision possible. But if BC stays I would really have to question the way TO has handled this. The rumor-circus has run-amuck and big recruits have jumped-ship. If BC has a solid shot at staying TO should have been pro-active. He should have given BC some public support. He hasn't. If you look "between the lines" it appears that BC is a goner(which I hope is true), but if he isn't then what is up with letting it look like he is?
  2. This just sounds like the e-mail everybody and their dog got a few weeks ago except with the date of BC leaving pushed-back. Maybe there is fire to go with all the smoke but it sounds like rehash.
  3. What hurt the Neb/OU feud is each team having a significant dry-patch. OU/Neb isn't like OU/Texas where there is always animosity. OU/Neb was built on quality teams playing for high stakes. During the 90's OU had a down-time, and we've had one this decade. These have led to fewer games since we aren't meeting in the CCG and the games we have played too often haven't been between two major players.
  4. Thing you wonder is how good a DC could we get unless TO makes some type of promises to the candidate? If you are a Jon Tenuta or somebody else who can easily work elsewhere why join a coach already on the hotseat? TO would have to make some guarantees, a vow of patience, in order to get a top-guy to come here to DC. Hell the new guys in 03 managed 10-3 and some still weren't satisfied. But that was Pedey. What would TO's standards for next season be?
  5. Mason is a solid coach, Minn should've just made him make some staffing-changes rather than fire him. But Neb's standards are higher. No way Neb hires a guy that did just OK(respectable but nothing special) then got canned at Minnesota. I'd say he is better than Callahan, if TO brought in a grade-A defensive staff Mason would likely get us back to top25 status. But Neb needs a guy that will get us back to top10 status. Mason isn't that guy.
  6. We have a considerable talent-advantage over CU. What is playing now are the results of a transition-class and the date-rape scandal classes. After the debacle at ISU CU really needs this win. The start of the game is key. Coming off those losses CU will be fired-up but not far from falling-apart like KSU did. I'd say BC goes according to form. If we are kicking-ass in the first-half we should win. If we are behind at the half we'll not adjust then lose. We should win but I wouldn't count CU out. That crowd will be rocking and Hawkins will have a gameplan ready.
  7. Not trying to be a dick but being interested in a job is different than the folks doing the hiring being interested in you. Shula did have some things working against him but he is going to have to take a lower-level HC job, prove himself, then go for a Nebraska-type job.
  8. Guys at the college-level still have to hit and work technique a couple times a week. Guys at the NFL-level are more finished-products so you can focus more on keeping them healthy. The "bulking-up" deal screams old Big10. They need to recognize the importance of being able to fly to the ball.
  9. IMO if they are interested in keeping Watson as OC or the position-coaches we should've canned BC and Coz weeks ago then gave Watson the keys. As is we don't really know what good Watson has done or not done.
  10. I love all these "sources". Ya I'm sure some are actually legit but this? No way does Neb hire a guy that got canned at his last job and makes folks think they maybe should've hired Croom instead. Hell Gill has a better resume than Shula. At least Gill's brief tenure at Buffalo can be considered a success.
  11. Wow, full pads once a week, and only after your team gives a symposium on how not to tackle? Nice. Ya we need this guy around longer.
  12. Good post, the "defense wins championships" cliche does have a basis in fact. As meh as our O was with Lord in 03 we still won more than any of BC's teams have because in 03 we had a solid D that created turnovers.
  13. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic but maybe Lucky is trying to get in some late-season brownie-points with the pro-scouts. I still think dude needs to come back and produce for a full season, has looked spotty for the last three seasons.
  14. In Glenn's defense that finger was earned. Utah was up 43-0 and did a freaking onside-kick, totally classless. Sarkisian I just don't see. USC's offense is loaded but nothing special in terms of production, why hire him? Peterson has way less talent to work wit than we do. He'd have beaten Wash by plenty with our guys. Plus the general trend with him is undeniable. Kelly would be a hell of a hire. Dude is a winner.
  15. Kelly would be an excellent hire. He has won everywhere he has went.
  16. That was one stupid ****ing call. If OSU punts Neb likely just sits on the ball for a play and goes in for the half. That last td of the half was the nail in KSU's coffin. Speaking of bad coaching. Why the hell wasn't Freeman running the read-option that has been gouging the hell out of us? The one time they designed a run for him he was in for 6.
  17. KSU and CU are average teams. CU is below .500 now and KSU is at it. Those are decent wins but not a big deal. It will still mean we have one win over a team that managed a winning freaking record and are only 6-6 overall. A well-coached squad wouldn't do worse than 9-3. I wouldn't advocate BC staying but as long as TO makes it clear that certain changes are made I would grin and bear-it. We gotta change D-staff and reverse the "culture change" that has led us away from being fundamentally-sound and hardnosed like the old husker teams.
  18. Sad that it took Keller getting injured for Ganz to finally get his shot. Props to the kid for haning in there.
  19. I'm sure BC will eventually regret being so blind to our D-staff shortcomings, lack of commitment to teaching fundamentals, and not having physical, competitive practices. He could have saved his job by ditching Coz early and changing the way his soft team practices.
  20. Kelly is a hell of a coach, wouldn't surprise me if Mich takes a shot at him instead of Miles. We should feel him out via headhunter.
  21. to be completely honest.. i asked a couple of them tonight if there was any talk with callahan being fired or stepping down.. both just simply said no.. and that he is their coach... these two would be Keith Williams and Phil Dillard.. i'm sure these are two pretty reliable sources since it was posted by channel 3 in omaha.. but the players are still saying (for now) that cally is their coach.. hah.. and Mike McNeill said that the offense is doing great.. its the defense that sucks.. just on a side note.. Defense is part of the game, not BC's specialty but still his responsibility. It isn't like our D had been good before, it just went from meh to crappy. Why was BC content with meh? Why didn't he do anything when we became crappy? If he showed more leadership, at least did a Leach-chewed some ass and canned the DC, he could've saved his job. But when you appear oblivious to coaching shortcomings it is hard to give the benefit of the doubt.
  22. I don't think Johnson jumps on a SMU. Why take another "stepping stone" job?. He needs to look for a "destination" job at this stage of his career.
  23. I think Bo has the sense differentiate between Pedey and the state. The people didn't fire him, Pedey did. If he doesn't see that then he is a dumbass. I think Ark will make a play for Davis. He is an Ark-guy that has eyed that job for a while. Plus Nutt could still be back.
  24. The previous staff got canned after a 10-3 season(I count the bowl win since Pedey saw it coming, thus the early firing). That should have told BC what he was getting into. Two decent years out of four doesn't get it done at Nebraska. I do feel some degree of sympathy for BC and company. It isn't like they want to suck.
  25. If TO really planned on keeping BC do you think he'd let all these rumors run-rampant and recruits to decommit because they think BC is gone? NO WAY. He hasn't even given BC a half-assed "vote of confidence". If TO planned on keeping BC he'd be getting the coach's back now.
