  1. It has always appeared to me that Gebbia had been hedging his bet. I'm sure he knew exactly where he was headed months before he asked for a release. He was simply staying here to see if he was going to be announced the starter or not. Once he wasn't named the starter, he bolted for what was his plan B all along. When we look back at this five years from now, we might very well see it as a blessing. The best and fastest way for Frost and staff to turn this thing around is getting their players in the system. By having several departures now, it will eventually free up scholarships for players better suited for our schemes.
  2. The bolded is what I've been thinking through the first five games as well. It's the reason I was wondering where we rank in terms of time of possession. A lot of your issues with the offense are what has caused the defense to look so bad especially 3-5. Our punting and punt coverage has been bad. Our offense starts out around the 20-25 while the opposing teams offense has a considerable shorter field. Our offense doesn't seem to ever have the ball very long. Then, we give up the ball for a short field to a tired defense. I guess a boom or bust offense is okay as long as we're getting more boom. Thus far, we haven't gotten enough boom.
  3. Personally, I wanted to see what Langs could do with Gebbia running the offense.
  4. Where do we rank in time of possession?
  5. So if we're 4-8 a couple of seasons from now, it will be enough time?
  6. I know I don't speak for everyone, but a rivalry needs to mean something. Our old rivalry was OU because beating them meant we were more than likely playing for something big. After OU went on probation and fell on hard times, CU became our rival as they were the team if we won meant something big. Then, it became KState. No offense, but beating Iowa really doesn't do anything for us. If we're looking at young rivalries and with the way the B1G is set up, Wisconsin is our clear rival because if we beat them then it means something big like a B1G Championship appearance.
  7. Iowa should know a thing or two about missing a bowl. Heck, Ferentz himself has already accomplished this feat four times at Iowa.
  8. Yeah, I proved that the Big 12 is more relevant than the B1G. In the most recent playoff, the Big 12 was included while the B1G stayed home.
  9. In last year's playoffs, how many B1G teams were there? How many Big 12 teams were there?
  10. It has always been my opinion that while Bo does know how to coach defense, he's so impressed with his scheme that he thought he could plug anybody in his defense and be successful. Some of his higher rated classes brought here were full of RBs, QBs, etc. Riley also seemed like to "stack" his classes with offensive players rather than focusing on defensive players.
  11. I don't agree with the bolded. You could insert 1000 for 500 and it still wouldn't change anything. All the yards in the World mean very little if you're not getting points. It was the offense that killed us in the first quarter against Wisconsin, not the defense. The defense gave up one long sustained drive that resulted in a field goal for Wisconsin. The offense ran a whopping 7 plays and gained around 26 yards in the first quarter. The defense after the long drive pretty much stopped Wisconsin in their tracks their next two possessions only to watch the offense trot out there, burn almost zero time off the clock, and gain almost zero yards. Then, you combine that with two extremely poor punts on special teams putting the defense in a pretty rough spot and it results in a tired defense giving up big chunk plays in the second quarter.
  12. Technically, you are right. One was not allowed to block or hit the long snapper when the long snapper's head was down. However, one was allowed to block the long snapper once his head came up and he released from the line of scrimmage.
  13. I really don't think it's any secret that Frost knew exactly what he was getting into with regards to the defense when he took the job. Let's face it, he knew there were glaring deficiencies on the defense. We have a UCF transfer starting on our defense that had lost his job at UCF when sophomore Richie Grant moved ahead of him on the depth chart at the end of spring practice. Let that sink in for a moment. Then, we lose the anchor of the defensive line who also happens to be a team captain for what appears to be a while. We're pretty thin on defense, and the offense and special teams don't always put them in a great position.
  14. I'm not willing to jump on this bandwagon yet. It's a bit disappointing it took this long into the season to see changes especially at punter, but the staff is shaking things up. We had two punts that were atrocious in the first quarter. A change was made, and it was for the better. Unless it was a fluke after the change, it appears we now have someone who can flip the field.
  15. As I said, the defense hasn't been great. I'm just getting sick and tired of everyone giving the offense a pass for their poor play especially when it makes a tired defense look even worse.
  16. Do you still have the game recorded? If so, I urge you to go back and watch the first quarter. This should tell you everything you need to know why we're losing games 41-24 with offensive records being broke. Wisconsin received the opening kickoff and pretty much ate up half of the first quarter before kicking a field goal. The defense got them into a fourth and short, but ended up giving up the first down. After being on the field for nearly half of the quarter on defense, it was the offense's turn. They got a first down right off the bat and then did nothing running almost zero time off the clock. Special teams which have been extra special this year has a 35 yard punt. The defenders on the punt pretty much just watch the punt returner field the ball while they stood there and then he took off for a 15 yard return giving up a short field to Wisconsin. The defense comes back on the field and for the most part stops them in their tracks causing Wisconsin to punt. The offense then takes the field, and they do absolutely nothing and run almost zero time off the clock. Then, the extra special team comes out for another punt only to see some weird rugby style punt take off for out of bounds. Wisconsin once again gets a pretty short field before the first quarter expires. I have a little trouble with the bolded. Does the offense realize they are letting the team down and more importantly their teammates when they go out on the field in the first quarter and do absolutely nothing running almost zero time off the clock right after the defense had been on the field for nearly half the quarter? Do the special teams realize they are letting the team down with their play? Has the defense been great? No. However, I think people are giving the offense a pass when they shouldn't be. Against Purdue, we scored on the opening drive. We never put up another point until halfway through the third quarter. The offense has been very slow starting. Against Troy, we didn't score our first points until then end of the second quarter. Troy is one of the perfect examples of why we're where we're at. The defense held Troy to 253 yards and 33% third down conversion. The defense did it's job, so why did we lose? It was because of the offense's ability to score points and the special teams extra special play.
  17. For the record, I believe the committee got it right last year. However, I would like to address the bolded. Wisconsin did something Bama didn't do last year. They actually made it to their conference title game while Bama stayed home. Prior to the playoff, Bama got a chance to prove they could actually beat one of the top 5-10 teams in the country and they couldn't do it. Bama lost by 12 against a top 5-10 team while Wisconsin lost by 6 against a top 5-10 team. If one is really being honest, neither Bama or Wisconsin had a World beater schedule last year in the regular season. Bama beats a couple of teams that finished the season barely in the top 25. Wisconsin beats a couple of teams that finished just outside the top 25.
  18. A couple of things. Whether you want to admit it or not, Wisconsin had ever bit as much claim on a playoff spot last year as Alabama. Second, everything is a process. When you're as bad as we are right now, the goal is to be good. The last time we were as good as Wisconsin has been was probably the first half of the season in 2010. We're getting closer and closer to being a decade removed from when we were actually Wisconsin "good". Recruiting typically gets better when a team starts winning. Some of TO's highest ranked recruiting classes came after he won his first NC. Once we get "Wisconsin good", I'd expect our recruiting classes to get better as well.
  19. Stoops was an extremely hot commodity in 97'. He had top units while he was at KState. After we clobbered Florida for a NC, Spurrier got Stoops on his staff which led to his NC in 96'. Don't kid yourself, a lot of programs were looking at Stoops in 97'. However, I do wonder just how successful Stoops would have been here? At OU, he was next door to a huge recruiting area. Here, he wouldn't have had that luxury. I'm just not certain he would have had the success here that he enjoyed at OU.
  20. Thank you! It gets extremely old hearing how we haven't done $hit or had a player worth a $hit since TO retired.
  21. The bolded is wrong. Suh was elite talent. He should have won the Hypseman. He's one of the highest ever paid defensive players in the NFL. You can't tell me that teams weren't scared to face that 09' defense.
  22. I think we're at rock bottom. I'm not sure how we could fall any farther especially when you take into consideration the Michigan players saying we pretty much quit after the first series. I don't think it's a matter of whether we're at rock bottom or not. The real question is whether we're digging sideways staying at rock bottom or when do we start to dig out of rock bottom?
  23. This is a four to five year rebuild. I knew this when Frost was hired. However, I'm seeing something I never thought I'd see. Our best played game thus far was against CU which was also our first game. Our worst played game thus far was against Michigan which was our last game. I really thought we'd get better as the season progressed. There is still plenty of time for this to happen, but thus far it's not happening. Is there any way our OL play could possibly get any worse? What really is dumbfounding about all of this is how great I've been told practices were leading up to this game. If practices are really going that well, why isn't this translating to better play during the games?
  24. How so? It's completely possible Bunch gets hurt against Troy. I don't care how great the back-up plays. Simple math shows we have a depth problem at QB.
  25. First of all, this was game one. It might have reminded you of a Bo coached team but it was a Bo coached team in later years. Bo inherited some very good players from the previous staff, but they were still making boneheaded plays four games into the season. If memory serves me correctly, Suh committed one such boneheaded play late in the game against Va Tech. Everyone needs to relax. If this becomes a pattern, then we should freak out.
