  1. I really believe the powers that be would love a matchup between Nebraska and Michigan as both have coaches returning to their alma mater that have struggled.
  2. Hiring any coach to come here is a gamble. Even if we hired Saban, it would be a gamble. Could he win with the current talent? If not, people would just say the game has passed him by or he's just too old. We could hire Urban Meyer, and he could totally flame out as well. I really can't think of one single slam dunk hire we could make. I'm not sure I really buy into the $5 million gamble with Frost. What would he be making had he taken the Florida job? His road to success would have been much easier had he taken the Florida job. I would take Frost over Mullen any day of the week.
  3. The offense can't score points when they are giving the ball away. Illinois scored 24 points off turnovers. We will not win a game with a -5 turnover margin. Blaming the defense for the loss against Illinois is like blaming a gun for a homicide.
  4. We could have juniors at all of those positions you just mentioned, and a "big time" OC would still say no thanks. It's for the very same reason a "big time" OC would have told TO no thanks. The HC calls the plays. Why in the heck would a "big time" OC ever take a job like that? People really do have a tendency to have short memories. Venables was pretty much run out of Norman. The OU fans hated him. Now, he's considered one of if not the very best DC out there. Considering Bob Stoops was a defensive minded coach and was a DC before becoming HC at OU, I wonder if anyone has considered that maybe Venables wasn't the problem while he was at OU? I just don't get why anyone is calling out the OC here when in reality they aren't really even the OC.
  5. I could be wrong, but I've always thought Orgeron to be cut from the same cloth as Chizik. You know one of those old sayings where even a blind squirrel can find a nut? If you compare Orgeron's record at Ole Miss, it is quite similar to Chizik's record at Iowa State. They both have a NC under their belt, but they both had once in a lifetime QBs. The jury is still out on Orgeron, but he has absolutely sucked it up this year. Looking at the rest of their schedule, I'm not sure he'll get another victory this year.
  6. Around here, they are not testing players. I have no idea about the class A schools. However, they should know as the players still live at home and there hasn't been an outbreak in parents or teachers that those players come in contact with on a daily basis. I haven't been to a football game yet, but I've been to a couple of volleyball games. For the most part, there aren't a lot of fans there. The ones that are there pretty much are in small family groups socially distancing. The one thing most people are worried about is how colleges are sending those with covid home once they are positive. Most believe they should stay at their respective school and quarantine there rather than coming home to infect the rest of their family.
  7. Out here, that won't be a problem. Most stations still will not play them.
  8. Name one POTUS in the last four decades that didn't have a large polarizing effect on the American public. Out here in farm country, there are still plenty of arguments over Carter and Reagan policies. Clinton hasn't been in office for over two decades, but just the name still stirs up a lot of people.
  9. There's always a price to be paid for using their elevated status. Professional players are much the same as actors, singers, etc. They are paid entertainers. It's not a very good practice to alienate fans by using their elevated status to delve into politics. Natalie Maines made this mistake and it pretty much cost her singing group The Dixie Chicks their careers.
  10. The potential long term problems this creates is the bolded if the other three have their seasons. While this might not be a big thing to the three star recruits out there looking to get an education, it more than likely will to the five star recruits who want to play in the pros.
  11. Would this even be remotely possible when considering tv contracts, travel scheduling, officiating, etc.? It would seem there would be a lot of hoops to jump through in short order to even try to throw something like this together. We aren't even going to have any idea whether the other three conferences can pull it off until pretty much October or later.
  12. You didn't really think the B1G was simply going to let Nebraska go cowboying off on their own with no repercussions did you? It's your right to blame him for everything, but he wasn't the one doing the voting. How different was that vote than let's say a little over two decades ago when the Big 12 was formed? We were on the outside looking in then, and we are still on the outside looking in.
  13. I don't know that they will. I'm just stating that it will look really, really bad for the B1G and the Pac 12 if they do. Sometimes it's best if you're not first. IMO, the B1G should have drug their feet until the SEC made a decision. This is the conference we're really chasing. Even if the remaining three only get part of a season in, I would think that would look a lot better to recruits than simply canning the season. One thing about it, we have no idea what comes next. This is hero or zero time. Things could really blow up on the remaining three, or they could come out of it smelling like a rose. It's just way too early to tell. I read an article where your old coach just said there's no way there will be a spring season.
  14. I don't think so. Most people see the B1G as Ohio State's and Michigan's conference. They don't see it as Penn State's conference.
  15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Warren just conduct the meeting? He didn't vote did he? I think he's taking way more heat than he deserves.
  16. Ok, so who's your team if the remaining three pull it off? Me personally, I'm rooting for the Cyclones.
  17. If they don't, it's going to look really bad for the B1G and the Pac 12 especially in the eyes of the recruits. It will probably also look bad when the next rounds of television contracts come out. If the remaining three conferences pull off a season, do you for one second believe the NCAA won't fall all over themselves to have championships? "At this point" maybe not. In a couple of months, it will be a different point.
  18. What purpose does a spring season serve? Assuming the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 have their seasons; the NC will get crowned from one of these conferences. The best one can hope for with a spring season is winning the conference. However, does it really? I'd assume there will be several players from the elite teams that will opt out especially if the NFL season goes as planned in order to get prepared for the NFL draft. Then, how long will the spring season last? Will players have the proper amount of time to recover from injuries and such before the 21' fall season?
  19. I would be more concerned about recruits than I would be current players. I'm sure there are plenty of SEC schools that would make room for 5 star recruits currently committed to the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, etc. Will the rich (SEC) just get richer from this?
  20. I'm both. I have lived almost my entire life in Nebraska, and I got a degree from UNL. I'm from southwest NE, so I would be more in favor of going back to the Big XII mostly because I was a lot closer to the away games than I am now. However, we really shouldn't even consider the Big XII because it just isn't a stable conference.
  21. I wonder if #wewanttoplay concerned them a lot more than the covid? Could we possibly be witnessing a dramatic change in amateur sports? It would seem if there was ever a chance for a semi-pro developmental league to flourish, now would be the time.
  22. At the end of the day, we all have a price. I never thought for a second we would do anything that would end us being in the B1G. However, what does this do to our struggling program now and in the future if the other Power 5 has a season? Do we end up losing a bunch of recruits? Do we end up losing a bunch of current players? How does this impact the top tier teams in the B1G when Bama and the likes come a calling on the top tier athletes in the B1G. There are a lot of questions and very few answers right now.
  23. I don't know whether it was the beer flu or whether it was the busing in of protesters to some surrounding towns, but I really can't get into the mood for football season. Dove season starts September 1st. My son and I probably won't have any time on the weekends for anything else anyway. With all the division in this country, the last thing on my mind is Husker football. People are downright crazy, so I think the best thing to do is stay away from as many as possible. Hopefully the team does well if they have the season, but for some of us priorities have changed.
  24. I don't understand why this is a story at all. The guy won the Heisman, and he also won a NC. He would have done neither of those things had he went to NU. In fact, there's a chance the guy never starts a game here. His style of football was different than what Beck and Bo was trying to do. He didn't fit Frost's system either. The only chance he would have had would have been under Riley.
  25. The problem as I see it is the bolded. These are college kids. They aren't professional athletes. Wasn't it in Detroit they had to remove the basketball rims because kids were still going to the parks and playing ball? I for the life of me can't envision college student athletes practicing, playing, and just going home. With schedules set well in advance, all it takes is just a few to not follow the rules to completely upend the entire college football season. I would have to assume if one team had even one player test positive that they'd be done for at least two weeks or longer. What does this do to the upcoming schedule not only for them but the teams they were to play?
