  1. I don't mind the siren. I always thought it would be cool if Iowa St had a siren like that .. Cyclone warning !
  2. 3gunhusker - Very cool, about getting to your first game! I'm happy for you. I remember my first game, my dad took me to the Iowa State game in 1987, I was 11. Coming up the dark ramp and catching the bright sun when we emerged, I saw that green field and the red N, and I remember holding back tears and my throat quivering as I tried hard not to cry because I didn't want my dad to see me cry, even happy tears! Haha. You can't go wrong with anybody's advice on where to go or what to see. Have a great trip and enjoy the game !
  3. Great article. I like the part where Coach Tenopir drew up one last play on Dirk's notepad. What a souvenir. Life is truly about how many people you reach and influence in a positive manner. Coach Tenopir's spirit will live on forever through every life that he touched.
  4. Then I'll just skip it and tune into the Blackshirt Alert show for the recap.
  5. Good post and I agree 100%. It feels good to have a head coach that you can feel proud of. He answers questions so thoroughly and completely that it's tough to second guess his judgement. He reminds me of Coach Osborne in that regard. I think we all wanted a coach who was as proud of the program's rich traditions as all Nebraskans. This place is special and it's nice to see Coach Riley and his staff recognizing what makes this place unique. His life experience is apparent in his actions and he is the right fit for sure .
  6. Hey, maybe we could be like the Old Mississippi Rebels and call ourselves Ole Neb! Or maybe Ole Husk.. that sounds cool. Dear Ole Neb Seriously though, I like Dear Old Nebraska U. Reminds me of something like THE Ohio State.. It's unique. It's better than NU, everybody else in the conference thinks Northwestern when they hear NU.. As for the fight song, if you look at the words for most college fight songs, they're all old school.
  7. 5-7 bowl teams. Really . I'm surprised that some are saying "these seniors worked so hard and deserve one more game." Uh, they had 12 other games to work hard and not lose . Kansas worked hard this year too -do they deserve a bowl ? So, it would appear that the participation trophy generation is now old enough to use the Internet.
  8. Grandpasknee is right. It's great to have hope, but let's not mistake it with hype . I remember that Frankie London was supposed to be the next Tommie Frazier and on and on with others.. Harrison Beck, that one kid that transferred to Yale, Bubba Starling, Darlington, Bush.... All supposed program changers.. Let's just count our chickens after they're hatched.
  9. Worst Nebraska team, worst Nebraska coaches, worst Nebraska fans, worst Nebraska season. To allot of people, this is music to our ears! You suck and you will for years to come. Welcome to mediocrity! No offense to the original poster that has some class. Welcome to mediocrity ? Well thanks , you'd know , as Iowa is mediocrity defined. Oh wait, you're 12-0? -- and still getting no respect from the college football world !
  10. Actually, many of us do come in here to read all of the BS posted by all of the armchair coaches out there! I think that this year has proven that no longer you are the greatest fans. As proof was all of the applause while our guy was damn near knocked out on a cheap shot. Absolutely horrible. Might as well remove the sign. Bo Polini was right on! The weekly rants of firing everybody must be embarrassing to the real fans. Once again, maybe Bo was right. If you want to see class, Ferentz benched one of his star players for a quarter for being LATE to a team meeting. It was not like a rape was committed at his house, he was just late to a freaking meeting! Back when you were good, we had to hear about it. No longer. This program will not become what it was, ever. That all said, there are a few of you (like many on this thread) that have it in perspective. The guy that I really feel sorry for is Gangwish. What a class act that kid is. Any team of any kind would be better with a kid like that on it. Good luck in your bowl game and we will see you in iowa city a year from now! BTW, before you comment, please really think about what I have said. Tell me where else in the country you'll find a stadium packed with 90,000 fans cheering on a team with a losing record. This fan base sticks together and supports our team . Funny how one fluke season brings out a ridiculous air of superiority from Iowa. Please..
  11. Really ? We're going to kiss Iowa's butt now ? Nope, not me. Iowa is unimpressive and struggled to beat a bad Nebraska team. The best Iowa team in history is only 8 points better than the worst Nebraska team. One win doesn't erase history. You suck, Iowa.
  12. Wouldn't miss it! "We'll all stick together, in all kinds of weather, for Dear Old Nebraska U ! "
  13. That's awesome, no I'm not Maron .. Haha College football was just more awesome with that board. I was hooked on some bait about Kansas tying Nebraska and it took me a while to realize it. Remember 10-3-39 ?
  14. Does this mean anything to anyone? Any old rsfckrs out there?
  15. To those who were highly intoxicated at the game, this is what it pretty much looked like anyways. That is cool technology !
  16. I think this that extra practice is probably the best reason for the bowl, and a final party for the seniors is cool. You said it. I hope for a bowl game for the seniors. Let's say Nebraska wins out and finishes 7-6--not great, but not a losing season. Bowl games are fun. I've been to the Independence Bowl (Solich Huskers vs Eli Manning and Ole Miss), Alamo Bowl vs Northwestern in 2000 and the Cotton Bowl in '07 vs Auburn. The good thing about these lower tier bowls is the availability of cheap tickets and they're fun!
  17. Not a big deal. Players transfer when their ego tells them that they're a starter and their talent, or the existing roster talent, tells them otherwise. We'll be fine without him .
  18. Some of those shouldn't count for much since some of those were in the days of dysentery or war
  19. I prefer a staff that embraces tradition and even adds to it. Remember Callahan and the team gathering to sing the fight song in front of the band ? Wins cure all, so I think fans would be tolerant of a coach that did in spite of traditions .
  20. Hey man, I don't need to be reminded about the defense. Below the belt It's true that the defense folded, especially in the 2nd half. But chew on this -- Purdue had the following four touchdown drives: 16 yards 22 yards 19 yards 6 yards Maybe a full strength Husker team, or a Husker team with more reserves and familiarity with schemes, etc, can fight back from that. Or not even find themselves in that position. Not in this universe, though. Yes, Purdue had 4 scoring drives under 25 yds, but they finished with over 450 yds ! That's saying something !
  21. If Callahan had a decent defensive coordinator, he might still be the coach. Like him or not, his offense put up points and numbers.
  22. Bingo--I share the same thoughts in regards to Riley's comments after losses sounding like he's said all this before. After the Wisconsin game press conference, I was thinking about trying to find a video of one of his Oregon St press conferences following a loss to see if this is the same rehearsed pattern. Golly, we sure tried like heck to win that one, but boy we just couldn't get it done.. . We'll go back to work on Monday and try are darnedest to get better, aw shucks losing sucks.
  23. Lane Kiffin seems like a perfect fit for Miami.
