OK? And how about the other 2/3 of the season? Did you miss, say, the part where the offense was struggling against freaking South Alabama or something? I'm pretty sure we had Washington and no major injuries on offense that game.

Riley stunted their growth, IMO. I consider this to be practically a team of nothing but freshmen and sophomores. Probably none of them will have reached their full original potential by the time they've exhausted their eligibility. Good, you understand that part. Now go look at the recruiting board and check out how many juco linebackers the staff has sent offered lately to try and fill that hole. The D was 88th in scoring defense last year and is 84th this year, but the O has plummeted from 58th scoring offense to 87th. You need to lay off the crackpipe if you honestly think the defense has been the bigger letdown this year.

What if we lose Thurston from Pender from this board?

Who? Ozigbo is the only one I can think of, Morgan and the O-line guys were Bo's recruits, not Riley's.

@Mavric I meant that the other way around, Bo had Riley 'beat' in the good way - Riley is clearly the loser there.

Not that he was great at it, but he certainly had Riley beat on number of recruits who ultimately dropped out of the program...

There's been quite a bit of activity around LB recruiting as of late, both HS & juco guys. Caleb Tannor is like our only LB that will be a junior next year, so it probably makes sense to take some juco guys just to balance out the class numbers a bit.

In the end, it pretty much came down to the tipped INT and the kickoff return. If we'd had Wan'dale and a couple extra starters on D, well...

@walksalone The thing is, last year the offense was way ahead of the defense, and was making up for the defense's deficiencies. This year, though, the defense has actually improved a bit overall, but the offense has regressed badly, to the point of falling a bit behind the defense.

Gates could've been great, in an environment where he wasn't allowed to take plays/days/years off...
