  1. I could see them doing something like they did last summer with the Friday Night Lights camps, just with the players instead of recruits.
  2. Could they not find a picture of Matt anywhere to use for that article?
  3. Am I the only one who winces when he reads that we're apparently hiring "a veteran of the NFL ranks"? Like, oh I dunno, the director of player personnel we just got rid of, Billy Devaney? And an administrator from Tennessee? After the dumpster fire we just witnessed from their administration?
  4. ^ Yeah, last spring & summer people kept bringing up that high grade for sacks/pressures/etc that PFF gave Freedom, and I kept saying don't expect him to put up anywhere near those numbers in a 3-4, that's just not how the system works. Being a D-lineman in a 3-4 scheme is a bit of an unglamorous job because you don't get to be the playmaker very often.
  5. I think it was more of a "what's the big deal?" question. He knew about them being given out, but the meaning behind it was lost in the Callahan era.
  6. I wish I could find the article, but a while after Bo was hired, supposedly one of the players actually asked "Coach, what's a Blackshirt?"
  7. Yeah, supposedly Diaco gave hardly any time to position drills. And Parella and D. Williams wanted a much more aggressive style of play, but Diaco wouldn't have it.
  8. Maybe his senior highlights looked different, but actually watching him in action here, he strikes me as more of a scrambler than a true running QB. The beginning of the end for Solich, IMO. He never was quite able to truly take control of things. Though nowhere near as bad as Riley...
  9. And Perlman. Some people got butthurt because of the way he said it (in what was supposed to be a private conversation). I didn't because what he said was basically true. Fortunately, they're all gone now...
  10. "Are they ready for us?" - Carl Pelini, when asked if Nebraska was ready for its first Big Ten game against Wisconsin. We all know how that went...
  11. Callahan is a pretty decent coach, but a poor fit for Nebraska (and probably college football in general) in scheme and personality, and couldn't bring himself to fire his old buddy. Riley was a mediocre coach at best, had a scheme that was... I don't even know what, had a personality that was pleasant but lacked the sort of leadership the team needed, and was willing to fire old buddies but didn't really improve on them with the replacements. If Callahan would've brought in a better DC, he probably could've coached here for quite a while, despite it all. Riley just had too many problems he couldn't fix.
  12. From that article: He did close out the bowl game against Tennessee last year at QB. Only like a dozen snaps, but still.
  13. ^ Well in this case, two bad things happened...
  14. Say what you will about Sam Keller, but as bad as things were, I do remember seeing him out there cheering on his teammates after he went down and Ganz took over. Does anyone remember anything like that this year?
  15. If that's true, it would seem to lend credence to my theory that things actually started out OK under Philipp, back when Epley gave his remarks about the program, but Riley built a culture that permitted far too much slacking. Here's a quote from Philpp a few years ago, comparing his style to Dobbs's: “I think our philosophies were somewhat similar but obviously some of the teaching techniques were different. They did a lot of their Olympic (weight lifting) from the hang position. We feel like it's important to be able to pull from the floor, to pick things off the ground correctly, postural-wise. It’s been a lot different for them, for sure. For the most part, I think they’re enjoying it."
  16. I wonder if he's formally joined the Army? I'm reminded of one of my high school friends who couldn't get into the Army due to a health concern, but served in the Navy instead.
  17. My mind has went back to that article several times since it was published. And while it's probably safe to say that S&C went to hell under Riley, I wonder if it was something that existed from Day 1, or if it was more of a drop-off later on, after Epley made his remarks.
  18. Well, he said the players were under-conditioned when his staff arrived. You can say it was because of the previous staff, the players, or both. Take your pick...
  19. Frost seems to be pointing the finger both at the previous staff not conditioning guys well, and himself/his staff for not taking sufficient precautions to handle that.
  20. Can we add Bill Jennings to the debate?
  21. * Injuries - he had two concussions in two months. Indeed. He was one of Bo's recruits, and I doubt Riley and Frost would've handled it differently.
  22. Like OP said, I remember this happening about this time a year ago at Oregon, which was also with a new coaching staff. I wonder how much of it attributable to guys just not being adjusted to the type of workouts the new staff uses. Then again, for incoming freshmen it's always a new staff, so some slow ramping up is probably always due. Did it last for an entire year?
  23. On a related note, I've seen some people on here (can't remember who) try to link .webp images. Those only work in Chrome, and it wouldn't surprise me if the board software doesn't recognize it as an image.
