Callahan is a pretty decent coach, but a poor fit for Nebraska (and probably college football in general) in scheme and personality, and couldn't bring himself to fire his old buddy. Riley was a mediocre coach at best, had a scheme that was... I don't even know what, had a personality that was pleasant but lacked the sort of leadership the team needed, and was willing to fire old buddies but didn't really improve on them with the replacements. If Callahan would've brought in a better DC, he probably could've coached here for quite a while, despite it all. Riley just had too many problems he couldn't fix.

If that's true, it would seem to lend credence to my theory that things actually started out OK under Philipp, back when Epley gave his remarks about the program, but Riley built a culture that permitted far too much slacking. Here's a quote from Philpp a few years ago, comparing his style to Dobbs's: “I think our philosophies were somewhat similar but obviously some of the teaching techniques were different. They did a lot of their Olympic (weight lifting) from the hang position. We feel like it's important to be able to pull from the floor, to pick things off the ground correctly, postural-wise. Frost seems to be pointing the finger both at the previous staff not conditioning guys well, and himself/his staff for not taking sufficient precautions to handle that.

Like OP said, I remember this happening about this time a year ago at Oregon, which was also with a new coaching staff. I wonder how much of it attributable to guys just not being adjusted to the type of workouts the new staff uses. Then again, for incoming freshmen it's always a new staff, so some slow ramping up is probably always due. Did it last for an entire year?

On a related note, I've seen some people on here (can't remember who) try to link .webp images. Those only work in Chrome, and it wouldn't surprise me if the board software doesn't recognize it as an image.

If I had to bet, I'd say either Wilbon or Bradley will start next year. But really, I don't think we've seen all that ANY of the backs are capable of, thanks to Riley & Langsdork. So I'd say all bets are off...

How many QBs do NFL teams typically have on their roster at a time? I could maybe see a team taking him on as a long-term project in hopes that they can teach him to read a defense, but he's not even gonna be ready to be a #2 guy next year, let alone #1.

Lee threw twice as many picks in 2017 as Armstrong did in 2016. Even considering that Lee had more attempts than Armstrong, it's still pretty crazy.

Seems like it always is. I'd say as a series, our games against Michigan State have been the most entertaining since we joined the Big Ten. Pity they're not in our division anymore.
