  1. Per Osborne, it all starts up front. Let's hope Cotton and Garrison can put together a line that minimizes penalties and sustains blocks. Then, we'll see some consistency on offense.
  2. Too high. Hopefully we can earn that kind of ranking, though. Anyone else notice that Auburn, the national champions, are nowhere to be found?
  3. Had the O-line been more consistent, less penalty prone, and simply more dominant, Shawn Watson would probably still be here, and we'd all be celebrating a Big 12 championship and BCS bowl win. We'll see how everything goes, but I'm still very skeptical of Barney having anything to do with the line.
  4. Reminds me of Bo a little, actually. He just can't wait to get done and get out of there.
  5. Either way, he's still receiving a FREE first-class education at a great college.
  6. For pete's sake, what the heck was he thinking? This crap angers me to no end.
  7. I miss the 'I,' too. We can't run it, though. Why? Because we aren't Stanford or Wisconsin. We don't have the personel. This is what I propose for those begging for the 'I.' The blocking may change depending on field position and defense, but you get the gist.
  8. Good God I hope not. I NEVER want to see some mamby-pamby dink and dunk passing offense in Lincoln. Nebraska football, from the beginning and to the present was BUILT on the ground, and only passing to open the running lanes. A guy like Paul Johnson, or even someone like whoever the offensive coordinator is at Wisconsin. Love to watch them bull their way down the field with a huge line and bruising backs. And I'm not alone.
  9. Doesn't matter - none of the ranting helps us. He really should've played it like he did at the end of the Big 12 Title game last year: wave it off because it's clear that Nebraska won that game, no matter what the final score indicated. I hope he tones it down, but he doesn't need to be a mute. It wasn't like Osborne never got in a ref's ear - especially in the early years. He stopped mainly because of his heart condition in the 80's.
  10. I've YET to see any real evidence or confirmation on the Sal deal. I've heard several different versions, such as we had a HUGE sign in the stadium, or there were HUGE signs on both sides of the Kearney overpass as they came from and went back to Hippieville. Show me a picture, please. It was a long time ago, but I know for a fact cameras existed, not to mention the game was on national TV.
  11. We'll have to find ways to throw the ball. CU's pass defense is among the worst in FBS, while their rush D is in the top 15. I think Helu and Burkhead will find some room, but ultimately, throwing and catching is what's gonna move the chains and score points for us. Line up under center, play action, and roll out. He does have the legs to pick up yards if no one's open, because he's already got a some steam built up. Plus, our TE's have been doing pretty well. Hit Kyler on an arrow route, and let him work. I'd like to see how much like Wisconsin we can be on Friday. Maybe we don't have the line for that, but it's probably our best shot.
  12. '05 was really a pleasant surprise for me. CU had the North tied up, so maybe they were on cruise control, but I definitely didn't expect the utter domination we displayed the whole game. After a timultuous season and barely squeaking by KSU, the Huskers come out and Zac Taylor is in the zone, as is Cory Ross. A high school friend of mine, Adam Ickes, also had a great game at LB along with the rest of the Blackshirts, so I was happy to see that. Like many, I never really liked Callahan, but I gotta say I respect how things went during that particular game (and the win over Michigan in the bowl). For a brief period there, it looked like Nebraska was going to find their way back to relevance again. Just had to wait until...this year, I guess?
  13. Agree that we can't make excuses. Offensively, we played poorly, and I'm not denying that. Here's the problem, though: 3rd and 11, from our 49. 6 minutes left in the game. Osborne comes in on a blitz, hits Tannehill right after he throws, and is flagged for roughing the passer, when no other ref in the COUNTRY would throw that flag. It just wouldn't happen. THAT FLAG led to the game-winning FG. Drive before that: 3rd down, and our receiver is clearly interfered with, killing any chance we had at a touchdown. But no, the ref picks up the flag he actually threw and for some unknown reason, declares that the defender, indeed, was not interfering. Bullcrap. And that's why we, collectively the Husker Nation, are upset. We were the same after the '82 Penn State game when the home-cooked refs stretched the field for Penn State's receiver (called a trapped ball a TD, as well), just as we were after the '94 Orange Bowl after the phantom block-in-the-back penalty, and the FSU RB's obvious fumble at the goal line. Call us babies all you want, but this isn't the first time we've been up in arms over poor officiating. The difference here, though, is that it was absolutely the WORST officiated sporting event most of us have ever seen - for any team. It just happened to be by the same crew that penalizes the Huskers by far more than any other team, and they do it by far more than any other crew. So don't sit there and tell me we're making crap up. I'm not saying there's some Beebe-led conspiracy to prevent the Huskers from winning. All I'm saying is that the officiating caused Nebraska to lose the football game. Plain and simple.
  14. Couple years ago, ut center Buck Burnette was kicked off the team after making a racist comment on Facebook about Obama right after he was elected. Warranted? I don't know - probably more to save university face than anything, but that's how things are these days. Marlowe is pretty articulate - English major, maybe?
  15. Season's never over for me until the last snap. Losing to aTm sucked royally, but like most Husker fans, we're stickin' together in all kinds of weather...
  16. Not ready to throw Watson under the bus just yet. Personally, I think the statistic that matters most are the bonehead penalties, like holding, tripping, illegal formation, false start, etc. If we could somehow play ONE GAME without all the mistakes, we'd see the offense move the sticks and put points on the board. It does fall on the players' shoulders to do their jobs, but it's still on the coaching staff to put guys out there that will do what it takes to score points without hurting the team with costly errors. I see the Pelini's changing things up personel-wise all the time if they have a player that will do a better job than the other players at that position. I say give Watson another year. Let him mold this new read offense against some stingy Big 10 defenses in more cold venues, and see what happens. If, by December of next year we're seeing the same old penalty-plagued offense, he should be shown the door, and let Pelini decide which assistants stay. I'd be willing to bet there are plenty of good offense guys out there that would jump at the chance to ressurrect what was once one of the most feared offenses across the country... (and for the love of Pete, Martinez, INSIDE SHOULDER! That was 6!)
  17. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think Martinez's health is our biggest offensive concern. For me, it's the O-line. They NEED to have a good game, like they did against UW, KSU, and MU. Against ISU, they did pretty well, but they were definitely hit and miss vs. KU. Also, I don't think they've faced a true, disciplined 3-4 scheme like they will tonight. Opening holes really isn't that tough vs. a 3-4, especially with our wide splits. They will, however, run into trouble if they don't get on a couple of aTm's excellent LB's right away. One of them, Williams, I think, is All Big 12 and All American, if I'm not mistaken. aTm is 13th nationally vs. the run - keep that in mind. If Helu and Burkhead can get 4-5 yards plus on most running downs, getting Martinez to the second level will take care of itself. I don't think I've seen any play-action bootleg stuff like we ran vs. KSU. That gets Martinez into space where he can hurt them with a short/medium pass, or take off for a potentially big play. They also must give Martinez time in the passing game, and they haven't really proven that, either, accept against OSU.
  18. Well, cy isn't as bad as a lot of ISU fans I've seen labeling the fake in OT as Rhoads' "Tom Osborne Moment." That is absolutely the dumbest thing I've seen from a fan concerning college football or even sports in general. I have a good friend who is an ISU grad, and he was disappointed with the loss, but he thought they played well enough to win, not to mention he still feels good after the win over texas.
  19. 3rd and 2? Burkhead in the wildcat. Easy. However, the play-call wasn't that bad - ISU didn't see it coming, and Reed was open, not to mention that Cody could've taken a few strides and slid for the first down if he was paying attention, or thrown a halfway catchable ball. On our last drive, I blame the o-line. ISU didn't blitz, but still had immediate pressure, forcing a bad throw. Unfortunately, Reed was WIDE open, but Cody couldn't spot him. Probably a TD if he has some time to throw a good ball.
  20. The '98 Texas game was the tipping point for me. Sure, it was a huge upset, and the end of the winning streak at home, but he announced as though Ricky Williams was his firstborn. "Ricky-Ricky-Ricky to the 40, Ricky to the Ricky 35!" However he did seem to be pulling for us vs. the cows in '06, just tells me he pulls for the underdog. Jackson never did that. It's not good broadcasting. Cunningham is an idiot. He's on this self-professed crusade to 'clean up' football, and I guess he feels he can do it from the broadcast booth. That's freaking stupid if you ask me. Just call the game, dude. We don't want to hear about how bad the big-meanie Huskers pick on the poor little opponents.
  21. Yeah, this is way worse than the two body-painted missouri geniuses and their Salt/Wound signs in '07. Huge rushing game by a Nebraska back over Missouri. Sounds like old times.
  22. Missouri is 4th, but breathing down 3rd's neck (literally) in mullet population per capita. Only stat that matters.
  23. ut absolutely changed things up when zac came into the game, if not by personnel, then by alignment, because while martinez was making wrong reads and forcing plays, there wasn't much he could do with the nickel stepping unblocked into our backfield every time they read run. That's why the dropped passes hurt so much - as long as we weren't having success passing the ball, muschamp wasn't going to change things. When zac came in, they backed off, and actually played honest football, especially since Zac's different animal than martinez - he's okay dumping the ball off to a RB for a 5-7 yd gain instead of trying to force the big play like Martinez often did. Actually reminded me a lot of how things would often go when we'd play those speedy athletic defenses of Miami, FSU and Georgia Tech. They'd plug the line and challenge our passing game, and more often than not, we couldn't beat them that way.
