  1. Why don't we just have Alabama and Georgia play now and forget the rest of the season? Everything else kinda feels meaningless if this is the eventual outcome.

I hear you on this. The SEC and a couple other teams play every year in the playoff. And its SEC vs SEC or SEC is the champion in the end. Boring really. WIsh the bowl season would feature crazy match ups that build excitement. The year that Colorado beat the life out of Nebraska, it would have been fun to see a re-match in the Fiesta and let Oregon play Miami for the title. Instead we got two blow outs. Miami in predictable fashion over us. And the Buffs getting ridden hard in the Fiesta by the Ducks. This year's bowl slate will come out and everyone will shrug. Then half the players will opt out of the dange games because they don't matter unless its playing for the natty. Maybe NIL will change this. Can we hope?

  2. Get Tom on the phone right now. Fire Verduzco and have Hermann be the QB/Co-OC

  3. What is the Lamar Jackson (QB version) story again? We had a decent shot of flipping him from Louisville, but then Bo got canned?

      tmfr15

I thought the crystal ball pick was saying Nebraska for him and then signing day came and, well, he went another way. We've always heard about these 'Silent Commits" that are going to sign when the day comes up but who are unwilling to do a verbal ahead of time. Had he been one of those guys, it would have changed Husker history. I really think Bo would still be here today. But he didn't come here. Bo wasn't able to get that one super star difference maker. He got more and more frustrated and... eventually, we know what happened.

Surprising that Steve Taylor is saying anything critical. He's the king of "everyone needs to be patient because this is going to take a long time to fix."

  5. Is anyone buying into the idea that altitude had an effect in the second half?

    1. tmfr15

      tmfr15

Altitude has been cited as a reason for falling apart in the second half in past years. I recall a specific game with Crouch at QB where we fell apart and almost lost the game. Won it OT as I recall but they had a kick that would have won the game at the end of regulation and shanked it. I was worried at half about the altitude catching up to us in the third and fourth quarter when adrenaline and emotion had stopped making up the difference.

Four weeks. That;'s generous. I am saying week one on the injury. This from a Dallas fan who knows that if a player misses that much time, the injury chance skyrockets.

  7. Over/Under 8.5 regular season win total?

    1. tmfr15

      tmfr15

I got the over on this. I am saying 9 is the floor and 11 is probably the best we can do. Even if we beat Ohio State, which we very well could, the team would be facing pressure and expectations that would be difficult to navigate so I am thinking they would stub their toe at least once. What's kind of scary is that, for a 10, 11 or 12 win season, this year looks like it could be the best shot. The schedules ahead all have brutal stretches.

    We've got Frost.

    We've got Hoiberg.

Are the next five years going to be the best time to be a Husker fan in a generation? It's set up to be.

Now we just need a new baseball coach and we'll be all set. Maybe Childress is getting tired of A&M or something. LOL

Sometimes, I think people look dumber than what they might be just because of the way segments end up coming together, especially when you consider the LIVE component of things. Then also, I think that people play roles sometimes instead of having something that they believe in, they are told what position to have. And maybe a guy ends up looking like a tool or looking like a hypocrite because the producers say, "Hey, we need someone to be the anti-What Ever Team."

  10. Nebraska Basketball is straight up a$$.

    1. tmfr15

      tmfr15

I get what you are saying. I have always thought that when you're Nebraska, you have to develop a blue collar identity and play to that character. We're not going to get the players that Duke and Kentucky get, so we are going to have to get players in here and have them worked into a mold and then run the team a certain way and be really good at what we do.

Talent ends up winning a lot of the games, but hard work, coaching and development make a big difference.

It's obviously the same with Husker football. But I think it's more so with basketball. We can get a few more studs on the football field than what we can on a basketball court.

Everyone was so hopeful going into this year and I don't understand why. It's fine that we have some good players, but until they prove they can be competitive in the league schedule, I am not going to be impressed. Falling to Minnesota isn't a good start.

I get what you're saying on premature predictions, but Rivals say the 5.9 and 5.8 guys with four stars are the difference makers. We are piling up the 5.6 and  5.7 guys with three stars. I have been saying for a long time that balanced classes with eight or so highly rated players would be the set up that would put us in the upper end when it comes to on field results. We got five highly rated guys. Do we get three more? Does it even matter? Are ratings not to be trusted?

Are we going to close on some 'difference maker' guys soon? I mean, I am torn with these three star guys. Is the Rival rating insignificant? I want to think so, but it seems like we've been told that we're getting the guys we really want and then none of them turn out to be that difference maker.

  14. Narrative on social media still seems to be that Ohio State sucks because it failed to put us away. How about the fact that we are 100 percent better than we were a month ago? Give us some credit for getting better.

  15. Just saw a Frost interview where it was stated 20 non-seniors have left since he was hired in December.  I don't doubt, but it seems high.  Is there a list somewhere???

I want to believe in a quick turnaround. However, Christian Hackenberg. That's the five star qb recruit that the former Lions coach hauled in. And he was gone before Penn State had recovered. If you're talking Franklin era, bad news there is that we are recruiting players needing development not ready made studs who can roll in and lift us to a higher level. Franklin recruits at a higher level.

I am thinking losing 20 guys, plus three years of guidance from Riley, equals self imposed probation. The impact on the team could be such that, by the time we're able to chase a conference title, AM might be out of eligibility.

That showing at Evanston, Ill., shows that Nebraska fans have no equal. We're 0-5 and taking over somebody else's stadium to the point where they have to go to a silent cadence. WOW! Impressive!

I feel you Frott Scost. I had the same feeling before Troy. Matter of fact, I was thinking how much I would hate to be that guy, because we were pissed at the Colorado outcome and we were going to take it out on them. Not so much. I have a feeling its this week followed by the feeling that I am fooling myself. I just start dreaming too much... first we piss pound Purdue, that gives us confidence and we upset Wisky and then we're off to the races.

Crazy theories aside, come Saturday it doesn't matter. We've got Frost. We have a direction and a future. I pitty the fan base at Oregon State. They have little to no chance of ever being relevant in the PAC.. heck even in their own division. And Gebbia signs up for that knowing what lies ahead. Chances are pretty decent we'll never hear his name called in a game of significance. Bye bye Tristan. Hello AM. Let's get to game day and begin the restoration of the Husker program that was once so proud. Can't wait!

You're right that Riley is pretty stupid. But I would not doubt that he was in Gebbia's ear talking about a plan B and that, calculated or not, he's pleased with the notion that it ended up hurting us. We are laughing at Riley. But I think he was so happy the day we got fired because he came out here with only one plan, to take us for a ride, get bank and get bank for his buddies, the assistant coaches at OSU. He "thanked" everyone the day he got fired because he got the cash and being fired meant he didn't have to go through the motions anymore. We see him as a dope. He probably views us in the same way.

Anybody think this set up is too convenient? Did Gebbia stay here, possibly at the suggestion of Riley? He  may have stayed to keep the Huskers from getting another QB, like Burrow. Might be just one last dig by Riley. Kind of jives with him encouraging Bookie to go to OU. Riley is supposed to be such a nice guy but I wonder if he really is kind of an a$$ underneath.

      @Huskerzoo

Thanks for your perspective. Like I said, watching this happen to friends and even to family has been some of the most heart wrenching thing ever. I just didn't understand. One lady, who was the constant target of abuse, always had stories for her bruises and marks. And I would say.... if he is abusing you (because she got offended about you saying anything bad about the guy) you need to leave him. She came around one day and acted like a totally different person. Why? She had left him. I was so happy for her and she just seemed so much happier. Not even three weeks later, she eloped and married the abuser. And I thought, "What are you doing? Why are you allowing this guy to treat you like dirt?"

Urban Meyer protected someone from the discipline that person had coming. No doubt. All of his lies are the fruit of that tree. And it's disgusting. But one message that I wish would come out in all of this is very straight forward. If someone out there is in a relationship with someone who degrades and dehumanizes them, cheats on them, or raises a violent hand to them (even just one time), the appropriate response is... LEAVE. Things are not going to change. Abusers abuse. That's what they do and they're not going to get over it or get better. A person who sticks around for six years after being the victim of domestic violence has ZERO self worth. The people around them, DIRECTLY around them, not football coaches, should be ashamed that they did not stand in the void and help their friend leave this criminal. She did not want to leave and one can only assume that's because in a twisted way she believed she had it coming or whatever. I have had close friends who were begged by myself and others to leave an abusive relationship and they WOULD NOT DO IT. Again, Urban should have fired the guy. He should have advocated for the victim in this case. But instead of accepting the victim always has to be a victim, these should be opportunities for us to tell people that they are worth something and that no one deserves to be treated this way.
