      Screen brightness is one of the biggest battery drainers, IIRC. NUance's advice is sound.

       

      Also, if it's a data-capable iPad, turning off data when you're using WiFi could help. Maintaining a connection to the data networks in certain areas is battery-intensive if the signal is poor and you wouldn't need it on anyway.
