Nope- that's ok but what do you download?  Is it from a link or something?  I don't want to google it and let them know I'm interested.  

I think, just from what I have read, that you download it like you would google chrome or firefox...i think.

It's just another browers. However, I believe it "masks" you IP by using proxies and other established IPs around the world. Tor isn't just for the dark web and illicit activities. A lot of people in countries with strict dictatorial control of the internet use it to access the rest of the world (ie China, Iran, etc.). That being said the darkweb still full of a lot of illicit activity.

Also the FBI has been able to establish user identities on tor, so it's not like it's some impenetrable criminal network.
