  1. I honestly do not understand offensive philosophy in basketball anymore. And, that's at pretty much all levels. My son plays in HS now and for the life of me, I can not tell you what he is supposed to be doing. I spent my HS career sitting on the bench beside a hall of fame coach. I sucked at playing simply because of no athletic ability and we had a pretty good team. But, he and I would have great discussions about the game and I learned a lot. Absolutely ZERO of the ideas he had about offense are practiced today. It's frustrating because I firmly believe if a coach would go back to those ideas and philosophy and was good at teaching them, I think he would win multiple championships. i think what happened-and this could be said for any level, any demographic, region, etc-was that somewhere, someone had a superstar and lived of the "get the ball in the playmakers hands". one man show. it becomes a fad. So then things change. Like i said. the pace and need to score. Also, i think with technology, the ability to scout and the focus put on defense really made it hard on set offenses. Which also cause the simplifying of the game on the offensive end. Shot clock has play a role over the decades i think too. looking back a few years, look at the adjustments the rules had to make to allow for more scoring.
  2. I was watching the game on our iPad last night. There were times when we had the ball that there was so little movement, I thought the stream was lagging or frozen. I've seen better movement out of the 50 and over rec leagues at the YMCA our 3rd graders have one set, and one motion. They move better without the ball better than anything i saw last night. This is not a joke. now i know there are plans for clearout sets and things that are determined by matchups and such. But what happened was, how many times were they able to just straight up double a guy? if youre not moving that double becomes infinitely more effective. And of course the other thing is shooting. for all this focus on defense, basketball was invented on the premise of putting the ball in the hole. Until we recognize this, esp in this new era of non-physical defense, and the 30 sec shot clock. Until we recognize the need for straight up scorers and putting more attn on the offensive end and letting the defensive end just be a "go play" phase, i think we'll continue to struggle. now. I dont think last nights HORRIBLE shooting is a direct reflection of the teams ability. Sure you wind up with a lot of hard challenged shots, but still, most nights, more go down than what did last night.
  3. god. Solich and the walkons. Option and the pipeline. God. I just wish the sun would burn up tommorrow.
  4. What a gentleman. We could all learn a thing or two from Coach Riley. desire and capability are two mutually exclusive qualities. no they arent. you can desire something and be capable of it as well. my bad. *can be*

  6. one of the main reasons i like being at games is because, as a youth coach of multiple sports, it gives me a better perspective of things i just dont see all off on TV. i went to the Minnesota football game and sat up high in the south. I saw so much that i dont notice much on tv and so many things make sense now. last night i was 20 rows off the floor. I cannot fathom what is being taught offensively. Lots of standing around. Movement without the ball is basically just a baseline runner, who happens to be jogging. I know basketball offense has taken on a more simple approach last decade or so. Lot's of pass and cut, get ball in hands of scorers, when all else fails, go pick and roll. But still. you have to have some movement to make it hard for the defense to play. Make THEM move around a little. I dont get it
  7. hey. kinda like what happened here a couple years ago.
  8. As a Chiefs fans, I havent been this excited for a game in a long time. This thing is just oozing with nostalgia, from the weather, to the stakes, Arrowhead at night, extra 4 hours of antifreeze pumping in the parking lot.

ive been to quite a few. first one i sat up in upper deck. "steerage" i call it. LOL everytime after, i pay the big bucks and get down on the field. you have to do it that way. and dont cheap out. pick a big game. I just about printed off a couple 200 dollar/pc tickets this morning, grabbed my cuz, and headed over there. was so tempting. i went to Indy in 2004 on halloween. Denver in 06 on thanksgiving. Nothing like the Arrowhead exp at field level.

I really WANT to be a Chiefs fan but I just can't quite get their for them, or any other team for that matter. Any advice?

  10. yes. But i think it's weird in how we label it. If Alabama is great-or the playoff teams are great-and other teams in the top 20 or whatever it is, are good, then yes. Obviously this in regards to a very high level of parity. I think the talent-both player and coaching- being so spread out due to the across-the-board investment in the sport by pretty much everyone, on top of the insane levels of expectation and urgency, has actually watered down the sport some. I think if you really wanna look at it, it's actually a few great teams and the rest are average. i dont think there is an in between anymore. When you have Michigan beating Penn ST by 30, Penn st beating Ohio St, but losing to Pitt, who also beat Clemson, and Wisconsin losing to Ohio St by one score, beating Nebraska by one score in the same scenario, yet Ohio St lays 60 on Nebraska, well, it's so even across the board. I know transitive property is bogus, but only in a sense of trying to predict what may happen in a particular game. Transitive property is an accurate depiction of the evenness of the sport. It supports the case of parity. and I dont think it's cuz so many others have raised their game. it's that the greats have been brought down some. It really is as unpredictable as pro sports now. Anyone can beat anyone. Literally. And even this year, as great and unbeatable as Bama is, 5-7 Ole miss almost beat em, and were up and down the field on this defense. So Bama needs to win these last two before being annointed.
  11. I like your name. What i like more is your sig glorifying some irrelevant hit, from 4 years ago, in a game we were trailing 49-10
  12. 60-3, and 4 national title game appearances, winning 3 is a tough stretch to overcome. Cmon. Bama lost as many games in one off year (2010) as Nebraska did in an entire 5 year stretch. Nebraska never backdoored their way back into national title games after overcoming HOME losses in November as Bama has done, TWICE. Winning 5 of 8 is very impressive. An overall stretch that, based on championships alone, is yeah, unprecedented. But an overall stretch as a whole? Nothing will ever come close to matching that 5 year run. Like a lot of sports, championships-while being an ultimate goal obviously-often overshadow true narratives. Bama winning title after title often covers up some of the blips of the era when comparing to other eras/dynasties. Like Oklahoma in the 50's. Winning 47 straight. i dont care what kind of different era of football it was. Why isnt that ever mentioned? That's never gonna be touched.
  13. At Michigan St, Nick Saban had average talent, had average results. At LSU he had above average talent, and had above average results. At the Dolphins he had equal/or below talent and had equal/below results. At bama hes had ridiculous talent and has ridiculous results. Coaching is relative to the talent. You need talent to win? Who'd a thunk? Bo had 25-30 talent, and produced 25-30 results. Sometimes we played above that narrative, and sometimes below. But the overall narrative fit the level to a tee. So im curious if these guys really do upgrade our talent level considerably what they can be capable of. The recruiting is part of it.
  14. so, for the ppl who still miss the big 12, you are stupid. We are so much better off. and for those that cry all the time "why did we add rutgers and maryland. they are so bad". Who gives a sh#t.
  15. to what!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Walk dogs? Shovel snow? Make the doughnuts? Create world peace? Make Nebraska Great Again? Don't leave us on a cliffhanger! lol i didnt realize i posted that without finishing. he said was "riley is basically saying i'm willing to 400k to get guys like Holmes, graham, Lenior, Johnson and Lewis"
  16. had a friend tell me last night that the williams hire was essentially saying that "im willing to pay 400k this year to i dont want Les Miles anywhere near our offense. We have enough issues on that side of the ball I do see benefits to the presence of this name. His presence alone could/would result in good pub and connections and better talent gain. But his overall coaching abilities are something to be desired. on the defensive side i'd be for it. But for fans who want to put all blame on coaching, and then sport desire for a guy like Miles, it just makes zero sense to me.
  17. With our facilities and recent (last 5 years) desire to pump massive funds into the program, i think his seat is hot. it was hot last year. It's time for results. And you can say what you want about the year two run and how they just "got hot". Getting hot or not, you cant do that with a group of players, have one of the best seasons in the programs history, return literally everyone, and lay a complete rotten egg the next year. And then another 2 years down the road, have that 1 season being a total outlier. At some point results have to be made. Now, one thing he's done for sure is upgrade the talent. 3 years ago, that game last night that started out 18-4, woulda been a 30 point game rather quickly. LOL. It was. (see creighton game 2013). But this team has the talent now to that they overcame that and somehow or other, while shooting under 30 percent, less than 10percent through the first 8 minutes, to find themselves down 1 at half. i think our upgraded talent will make this prgram much more desireable in the eyes of coaches should this year go south again and we go a different direction. It's about the same way i feel abotu the football program. if Riley doesnt win enough, at the very least he'll repair the toxicity that was prevelant with the fanbase to the players, between the program and admin and so on, and upgrade the talent level on the team and stabilize a very shaky roster situation. It'll be a much more intriguing job a couple more years down the road.
  18. Win or lose or whatever, I still think that the Husker Power chant during the opposing teams starting lineup is pretty cool. I'm glad they still do that.

It's cool. It's possible youve had very good stuff there based on YOUR tastes. I wont hold it against you.

it was also 1030 at night. So theres that.

  19. I expect a 21 point win here. I know Tennessee is talented, but they got issues. And the Iowa game for us was an anomoly. I think this group of seniors, have a month to kinda reset, rest a little, and get back after it, will be wanting to go out with a bang. That iowa game was in no way truely indicative of this team's ability. A lot of factors caugh up with them and it was just a bad day. I see them wanting to overturn that narrative with a bang.
  20. Creighton played just as bad. Neb shoulda lost by 30.

Not shocking. We shot less than 30%. Was inder 10% 8 minutes in, down 18-4. Yet, walla. Found ourselves down only 1. At half. Just strange.

  21. Excatly. I don't remember huskers playing st Mary's Catholic Church during week 10. Well. We did play Iowa St. And Schnellenbergers Oklahoma
  22. Fryars dropped pass was on the final drive prior to Smith's td run. Still woulda needed the two.
  23. factor always forgotten in blowout losses is psychology. I believe that was the biggest factor against Iowa. It wasnt an effort thing, but sometimes youre just in the shitter mentally. The things that hurt us against iowa were things we hadnt seen a lot of, if at all all year.
