bbhusker
Pelini said that after todays practice that the coaches weren't worried about 1s vs 1s for the spring game. He said they would divide the players up kinda like a draft. Quote Link to comment
HuskerRob
nice, i was wondering what the format was going to be.... so its going to be two evenly divided teams? Quote Link to comment
Husker_Power
Pelini also announced April 19's Red-White Spring Game will feature a mixture of starters on both sides of the ball. "We are going to split the teams equally," he said. "We are not worrying about ones on ones or twos on twos. We are going to watch our guys play football and get better as a group. It is going to a draft-type thing how we split the teams." Link also...an article from KETV's Matt Schick's Blog Will it be ones versus ones? Twos versus twos? “It seems like everybody is obsessed with that,” said Pelini. Welcome to Nebraska, Bo. According to the head coach, each team will be comprised of various players of varying talent levels. In years past we haven’t seen the top units play against each other. This year, we may at least see some compelling matchups. We’re gonna split the teams equally. Red team and a white team. Not worry about ones on ones or twos on twos. We’re gonna let guys play football and get better as a group. I’m not sure how you have two teams, one offense and one defense all together. It’s gonna be more split down the middle… It’ll be kind like a draft-type thing in how we go about it and how we split the teams.” It looks like we might just have a competitive spring game. Finally. BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
I believe South Carolina uses this draft format as well. Quote Link to comment
Touchdown Tommie
This is great....some of the players may have a chance to shine, while others may lose a little bit. Keep the competitive spirit in these guys Bo!!!!! Quote Link to comment
HuskerTrucker
I like this format better anyway....plus we don't have to worry so much about a number one taking out a number one. We just have to worry about a number two taking out a number one....lol. Quote Link to comment

We just have to worry about a number two taking out a number one....lol. With the old format all the ones were on the same team, so I dont see how we would worry less about a one taking out a one as in the old format a one never took on a one. I think thats pretty irrelevant anyway because most injuries occur when just freak things happen not matter if its a one, two, or the kicker hitting them they could step wrong or just get hit funny. HUSKER 37
From a fan's standpoint this is great..And probably also from a 2nd or 3rd teamer's standpoint..Nobody can tell if you're a starter or not by the color of your jersey....yet. It would be nice to have a 1st team Offensive line together, though... to help them gell, but there's plenty of time for that in the Fall. Now..Everybody..Repeat after me. IMust Stop Overanalyzing every little tidbit of Information!!! Quote Link to comment

BigWillie
This is a horrible idea from the standpoint of quite a few things need to get ironed out among this team and this isn't a way to do it. First, the defense needs an opportunity to gel. The defense is going through a complete overhaul and needs time playing alongside actual starters for a chance to learn in an actual game setting. The LBs especially need a chance to play alongside each other and not some 2nd and 3rd stringers. The offensive line needs time to gel. The scheme in which they block has changed which is a huge thing in itself. Moreover, the offensive line will always need time playing alongside guys they will starting with. I could go on with this, but you get the idea. I know Bo is getting at the idea he wants to let the kids have fun, but this coming Saturday isn't exactly the best time considering what we need to continue to work on. We only get so many spring practices and right now we need to use each of them wisely. Especially when you consider where we are at defensively. I'd personally prefer 1s versus 2s over this format. zoogs
Yeah. I don't like this idea. You can have 1's vs 1's, or 1's vs 2's. But a random mixture just doesn't seem very useful. The O-line gelling is probably the best example of the need for 1's being together, 2's being together, etc. Quote Link to comment
Inwar1
As usual you can't please them all. It's the spring guys...Having a good competative game should be much better than pounding all of your backups into the ground and saying wow! Look how great our team is Our 1's really are better than our 2's & 3's. I'm sorry the spring is for learning, and I think this is a step in the a better direction. The best format maybe to have the 1 ofense and the 2 and 3 defense on one team, against the 2 and 3 offense and 1 defense. But what Bo's doing suits me just fine. I will be looking to see how the defense has responded to Bo. Quote Link to comment
zoogs
I don't agree that it's a step in the better direction. It gives the fans a better game to watch, but I don't think it gives the respective 1st and 2nd units an opportunity to gel. So I would say 1s vs 2s is much better for learning than this. True, that's what practices are for. But well, why not have a spring game that's also as useful as it can be? I agree what the best format is. But this one - random hodgepodge mixup of 1's and 2's - doesn't sound like a terrific idea to me. Well, that's why I'm not coach. But still. They're not going to get a season preview out of the spring game, and maybe that's what Bo is going for - crowd pleaser spring game rather than milk as much utility out of it as possible. Maybe it doesn't matter, but maybe it does. Quote Link to comment
