Clemson doesn't have an OC or DC

Don't forget NU started 3-3 and then won 5 of the last 6 with the only loss to Oklahoma.

My point is: Clemson is basically a 4-2 team based on the current configuration. GT loss came 3 days after HC and OC change. It's kind of hard for the young men to focus not to mention the remaining staff when the future seems up in the air.

Winning 4 of the last 5 seems to indicate they were doing something right. Especially the win over BC.

This is probably the biggest reason our interim HC (WR coach) was given the thumb's up to remove the "interim" label. The guy just seemed to say and do all the right things including firing his OC boss within three hours of being named interim HC.

I knew about the DC, but the OC is gone too?

Our HC was gone on October 13th. Our wide receivers coach was immediately named interim HC. Within 3 hours the interim HC fired our OC. We played our last 6 games without an OC. The interim HC had our 29 year old QB coach up in the booth calling the plays. He doesn't have any OC experience.

What some of y'all fail to understand is this Clemson team is not the same team that started off the season 3-3. So comparing our overall record to yours to determine overall matchup is NOT a good way to look at us. In our last six games we lost to Georgia Tech and Florida State. Our interim HC and our QB coach had three days from the time Tommy Bowden was gone to prepare for GT. The GT game was fairly close and honestly we should have won it. While Florida State appears to have beaten us soundly you should note that we were in a position to tie them with 2 minutes left in the game. Thus, our interim HC won 4 out of the last 5 games played. South Carolina had the number 1 defense in the SEC when we played them.

We are NOT a run oriented team. Just because we supposedly have one of the best running back tadem teams in the country doesn't mean we are run oriented. We are much more balanced than you may be thinking. One of our wide receivers is the all time ACC career leader on receptions. Hopefully you have an opportunity see him showcase his ability.

Further, I should note that our Defense is our strong point. Our offense has pretty much sucked most of the year. Our D was destroyed by Alabama but I guess what do you expect. Those guys turned our pretty good. It was our D most of the year who won our games not the O. Y'all seem to think the opposite of what I just stated. Again, our offense has pretty much sucked most of the year. The exception would be the destruction of the #1 SEC defense. However, even here our defense intercepted Carolina's QB four times and blocked one punt of theirs. We had our DC all the way through the last game though but now he is gone and will not be at the Gator Bowl.

With that said, I still do not understand why we are favored over y'all when we don't have an OC or DC. The betting people must know something about y'all that us Clemson people don't. I was just curious as to what you thought that may be.

Clemson is ranked what in total defense? 17, something like that? Va. Tech is ranked in the top ten in total defense and we put up 30 points and over 300 yds. on them. Yes, I'm well aware that they won. But, my point is, it's not that Clemson doesn't have a good defense, they do. But it's not the first good defense we've had to play this year, and we've been able to move against all of them.

My guess is cream rises to the top.

Talent and speed are what is important in college football. Clemson has that talent level, they were in the top ten at the beginning of the season. Alabama blasting them at the time was quite a surprise, if the game had been played later in the year, it might have been closer, but the loss would not have been as shocking as it was at the start of the season.

Dabo has brought the team together very quickly. He is a very good coach and will cover the bases I am sure.

But my guess is Vegas feels your a more talented team, Nebraska does not win much on the road, you are not rated, but considered to have thet talent to be, and we do not fair well with rated teams.

I think it will be a very close game. I wish I could go to this one. I lived in Sumter for awhile and love the South Carolina country side. I have known of the hatred between Clemson and SC for a long long time, it is kind of fun listening to you guys go back and forth.

Anyway we wish you luck, may the best team win and may both of our great fans enjoy this game and come away with respect for each other. We are a pretty friendly bunch. Stop by any time.

I think that we match up well with each other, but I do agree that Clemson's speed will be a major problem. Now, before all the Big Red fans attack me, I would like to state "I like our chances".......but anyone who thinks that NU will win this game by anything more than 6-7 should take off the rose-colored glasses.

big kole said it correctly....we all know very well how overall team speed has been the demise of NU over the recent past. Seems to be the common theme whenever we lose to an OU, MU, VT, TX, etc.... and although I still think the Big 12 is every bit as good as the SEC, the SEC still has more speed than the Big 12. When you compare how Clemson did vs other SEC teams, I don't think you can say they "didn't play like a team with speed.....they were playing teams with the same/better speed within the SEC....

Anyone watch our LB and DB's.......SPEED IS NOT OUR ASSET... Yes, these guys have overacheived and the coaches will have a great game plan, but the one thing you CANT coach is speed.... sorry, Wortman, Kohler, Dillard, May.....cant run with the speed of Clemson.

I don't think you can compare the team speed of Baylor, CU, KSU, KU, ISU to anyone in the upper half of the SEC....the only teams we faced that you can compare is OU (blowout loss), TT (should've won), and VT (lost, but had a chance).

Don't remove me from the board, just stating my opinion and concerns. If we play well, and find a way to nuetralize their SPEED, we will WIN !!!!! But, this is easier said than done. Hard to simulate the speed they have in practice.

The vegas line is all about where people bet. It has nothing to do with who they think will win. The Casinos are just trying to stay in the middle of the betting so they make their money. USC could be playing Army and if everyone is betting Army, then they will move the line to favor them.

Vegas money is usually pretty smart.

My money is smart, it stays out of my bank account this time of year. Living here in Vegas you'd think they'd put odds on how many Husbands will kill their wife after they see the bills come January.

You seem quite happy with your production since Bowden's firing, so I'm not sure why you're so surprised Clemson is favored.

I should note that to say you are not run-oriented would be a bit of an understatement. Clemson's rushing attack has been flat-out poor this season, as they rank 95th out of 120 teams in rushing offense with just 120 ypg.

We don't have Clemson's talent? eh, kinda subjective if you ask me. Speed? No. But I'm guessing Bo and the gang realize this as well and will be working to neutralize it as best as possible.

Look, our wideouts aren't as fast as the Clemson corners but you're looking at lining up Butler who's what 6' 190 something like that against a Todd Peterson who's 6' 4" 215. On the other side is Swift who's 6' 2" 200 or so against Chancellor who's what 5' 8" or 9". I'll take those matchups.

A lot of teams simplify their offense quite a bit for bowl games. Given that your offense is taylored for the running game , it may not be such a factor on that side of the ball.

The D on the other hand, I might worry about. The Husker O is no joke, so divising a sucsessfull game plan to slow it down would seem pretty tricky IMO. Any word on who is taking over the play calling?

Well, our O-line is probably better now, but we couldn't run on VT and that's a big part of why we lost that game. We have to be able to run on Clemson, cuz their DBs are very good.

Our offense is functioning differently now than when we played VT, or even MU for that matter. Stats say that you can run on Clemson. And I debate the skill of the DBs. When they played the two accurate passers (Alabama, and Wake) they allowed over 60% completions. As for the Clemson offense vs the Blackshirts, I think its a simple plan really. Take away the run, and make Harper beat us with his arm. He has 11 TDs to 12 INTs. I like those odds.

You sight Alabama and Wake Forest but that was with different coaching staff. Not only that but our DC is gone for the Gator Bowl. It is hard to say what you should expect from our D. I'm a Clemson person and even I don't know what to expect. I believe we will abandon the zone defense which had been a problem for us on 3rd and long.
