Cy the Cyclone
Yesterday, Paul Rhoads (Cyclone Head Coach for you billions of people who don't know) along with a couple of "unnamed" Cyclone players (unnamed mainly because I have no idea who they were...) attempted to woo my son and future Husker star "The Bozinator" away from Nebraska! My son, along with a couple of other geeky smart kids who want to be engineers or conductors or something to do with trains, because of their good grades, were given a trip to Iowa State so they could see some of the interesting things the engineering department is involved with (steam engines maybe?) The trip included a tour of the virtual reality lab, solar projects lab and...for some reason...the athletic facilities. My son was pretty excited (to be skipping a day of school...not to be going to ISU) and marched out the door that morning proudly wearing his ISU jacket...which, unbeknownst to me, he was wearing to cover up his Nebraska t-shirt (he also had the NU baseball hat in his backpack...which I never look in. Don't want to accidently find steroids or something in there). Now, the rest of this I got from his teacher, who not only found it totally amusing but is, herself, and ISU grad...and totally hot (none of my teachers was ever hot...just old, like 100 or more) so some of it might not be totally accurate (though I've only known her to lie when she tells me she does not find me attractive...I know she does) but: Boz gets on the bus and dumps the ISU sweatshirt proudly showing off his NU colors and donning his cap. Teacher warns him that he might get razzed...Boz threatens razzers with kick in the groin. Boz enjoys trip to virtual reality and solar world. No one razzes him because all the people in the labs are either foreign or dorks who have no concept of what "sports" are. Boz and friends escorted to athletic department for tour of Hilton Auditorium (which he does like). Introduced to head basketball coach McDermott (asked what he thought of coach McDermott, Boz said "He sucks...he said he was too busy to talk to us but all he was doing was playing solitare on his computer...") At least he was not twittering. Continues on to new indoor football practice field. Meets head football coach Rhoads. Rhoads finds the fact that Boz has on an NU shirt quite amusing. Asks Boz why he would wear a Nebraska shirt to meet the ISU football coach. Boz tells Rhoads that the Cyclones suck. Rhoads still amused. Boz mentions that his father played for ISU in the 80's but they sucked then too. Rhoads asks Boz if he is going to follow in his old man's footsteps and come to ISU to play football when he's old enough. Boz tells Rhoads he would only do that if his dad made him but probably not because his dad didn't want to be a loser. Rhoads very amused by Boz...offers to trade Boz a new Cyclone t-shirt for his Nebraska t-shirt. Boz turns the offer down. Rhoads then gives Boz the t-shirt and they go their seperate ways. Apparently my kid later traded the Cyclone t-shirt to another kid for an apple and a fruit rollup. The Huskers came out on top THIS time but you better keep your eye on that Rhoads guy. He's sneaky.
