So does anyone know for sure . . .

So how close was Nebraska to playing Taylor Martinez at quarterback today?

"He could have played today, but if we didn't have to go that route, it was in the best interest of ours to have him ready for the weeks that follow," Husker offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said after the 31-30 win over Iowa State.

"As the week progressed, he got better, so that was the encouraging thing," Watson said. "But he still wasn't totally Taylor. So we made a decision at gametime ... Plan B became Plan A and Plan A became Plan B."

Martinez did come into the game for one snap early when Cody Green got the wind knocked out of him, but the Huskers split him out wide and ran out of the Wildcat with Rex Burkhead on the play.

As for Zac Lee?

Lee did not even throw the football in warmups and wasn't available to throw the ball in the game.

"We could have played him in a running aspect," Watson said. "But as far as throwing the ball, it wasn't going to be something he could do with downfield throws."

Watson said Lee hit his hand on a helmet during practice this week. X-rays on the hand were negative. Just a lot of swelling, Watson said.

The coach was optimistic both Martinez and Lee will be available against Kansas.

"Oh, yeah, we'll have them back," Watson said. "That's why the way things actually transpired today, it was actually a good thing. They get another week now."

ok, so Martinez come briefly in relief of Green, who comes back in to play WR, while Burkhead plays QB? Me thinks T-Mart is really hurt.

I believe he is hurt to but not as bad as some people may be saying on here. They just didnt want him to get hit today. I think the coaching staff thought it was gonna be an easier matchup then it was today and they wanted to make sure he would be healthy for a&m and later games
