Keystone Pipeline

Recommended Posts

We own our right aways and yet the people we bought it from still farm it, run cows on it and whatever else they want to do.

How wide are your right-of-ways? Not meant to be a loaded question . . . I'm just curious.

They are 50' on each side of the pipeline. The same size as the proposed easement for the KeystoneXL.

And TransCanada takes ownership either through governmental action combined with payment or a privately negotiated sale with the landowner?

Nothing screams freedom quite like a foreign corporation seizing privately owned land against the landowner's wishes. So glad that this is a GOP congressional priority.

It's almost like the GOP knows something...like they're willing to cash in/sell out and get the hell out of dodge with America by doing this s**t.

Regardless...for a party that is so hell-bent on railing against United Nations boogeymen that are trying to control our country, they sure are f*****g silent on a foreign national company using Eminent Domain to secure land from American Citizens.

Seriously--I'd love to hear/see one of our resident tea party/GOP 'friends' try to defend this...

It's easy.

First, you chant "jobs, jobs, jobs!" (What was the number of full time employees after construction is completed in ~2 years? <40?)

Second, you pretend that this is part of your grand strategy for US Energy Independence. (Even though it is not US oil and it is going to be sold to China.)

Third, you claim that we need gasoline! (Even though this particular form of oil won't be made into gas because it isn't economically viable.)

Fourth, if anyone gets to this point and still isn't convinced you make up another fake scandal (Benghazi, IRS, Fast and Furious, Gruber, etc.) to distract the remaining rubes.

Bam.

Maybe we should be asking why we are pumping crude and refined products to Canada and Mexico instead of keep it home. I have no issue with the pipeline going through as it would help with some of the shortages we have here in the US, especially in the Midwest region.

How?

By pumping the refined fuels back North.

The Nebraska Supreme Court removed a roadblock to the Keystone XL pipeline Friday when it reversed a lower court decision striking down the law used to route the project.

In a 4-3 split ruling, the high court vacated the lower court ruling and upheld the constitutionality of the law used to route the oil pipeline in Nebraska. Four of the judges sided with landowners who brought the lawsuit, but a super-majority of five judges is required to declare a law unconstitutional.
The highly anticipated decision took on national significance after the U.S. State Department halted its review of the pipeline to await the court’s decision. Because the pipeline would cross an international border, the department must determine whether it meets the national interest before recommending that it receive a presidential permit.
Friday’s decision means the State Department can resume its review so President Barack Obama can make his decision. And it ends a lawsuit filed in 2012 by three Nebraska landowners who live on or near the proposed route.
The 4-3 split decision, a rarity for the Nebraska Supreme Court, came down to whether the landowners who challenged the pipeline law had the legal standing to do so. The four judges who determined the lawsuit was valid went on to say the state’s pipeline law, known as Legislative Bill 1161, was unconstitutional. The three who decided landowners lacked standing took a pass on the constitutional challenge.
