Random thoughts, Monday, 6/29/'15

Heard a relative of one of the SC shooting victims on tv last night say the 'strength of their Christian faith is being shown in their willingness to forgive the shooter...' The interviewer then asked what justice should be brought upon Dylan Roof. "Death penalty", he says emphatically.

No one even blinked at the obvious irony. Forgiveness by execution, just how Jesus taught, back in the day. Violates one of those 'Commandments' too, if I recall.

The tragedy of the event aside, I guess it's only atheists and/or agnostics that ever ask why 'God'/prayer never seems to protect anybody, not even in 'His' own 'house'.

One of those Christian refugees out of war torn Libya(thanks Obama) was on a small boat across the Mediterranean to Italy the other week and also was drawn to praying to her God for protection on the perilous pilgrimage. Well, just so happened the other folks around her were all Muslim and their God told them to throw her overboard and let her drown to death, which they did. More irony and questions into the efficacy of prayer and 'or 'God'--or the timing thereof, at least.

Saw where one of those recent tornadoes was thundering threw a small Oklahoma town and one religious family decided to leave their home and seek shelter in their nearby church--for obvious 'reasons'. Well, the tornado skipped over their house and leveled the church, killing one and injuring the rest. I'm sure there's a religious lesson in that, somewhere.

One might wonder, on occasion, why 'God' created murder, war, and tornadoes, assuming 'He' created everything, but 'His' ways are probably much too 'mysterious' to expect any satisfactory reply.

Anyway....

Texas Farmer Killed After Tractor Disturbs Bee Hive

By KAYLEE HECK 16 hours ago www.yahoo.com
A third-generation Texas farmer was killed by a bee attack after he disturbed an enormous hive. Rogerio Zuniga was on his tractor in Lozano, Texas on Sunday when he hit an 18-inch diameter pipe enraging the bees inside.
The bees swarmed from the abandoned irrigation pipe and killed him, an official told ABC News today. “He jumped off the tractor and ran about 100 yards away from the swarm before he collapsed in the field,” said San Benito Fire Department Chief Raul R. Zuniga Jr., who is Rogerio’s cousin.

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — FBI agents and Indiana State Police raided the home of Subway restaurant spokesman Jared Fogle on Tuesday, removing electronics from the property and searching the house with a police dog, two months after the then-executive director of Fogle's foundation was arrested on child pornography charges.

Heh. I guess Ronald McDonald isn't the weird one after all.

Fox & Friends Host Pete Hegseth Hits Man with Axe

During last Sunday’s broadcast of Fox & Friends, co-host Pete Hegseth tossed an axe to tease an upcoming segment on timbersports, missed the target, and hit a marching band percussionist standing in the distance.

Ha ha! I hate it when that happens.

+1 for a great Fox News fail. Though I have to say, why the hell would you stand anywhere near the direction of an axe being thrown??

Man Shoots off Firework From Top of His Head, Dies Instantly

A 22-year-old man who was drinking and celebrating the Fourth of July tried to launch a firework off the top of his head, killing him instantly, authorities said Sunday.

Mom says there should be a course you have to pass in order to get a licence to use fireworks.

The kid was drinking, so I doubt that licence would keep him from doing stupid.

Maybe they should try to do the same think with driving.

I had only been living in Omaha a few months when we won the first of many championships in the '90s. I can remember the moment so vividly. After the win my newly acquired friends and I all piled into my mom's minivan and went to downtown Omaha. It was a riot, but instead of setting things on fire and turning over cars (which happens in my new hometown of Los Angeles whenever a team wins a championship), people were dancing in the streets, college girls were flashing elementary school kids and everyone was drinking. My mother was clueless that my friends and I stole three Miller High Lifes from the cooler before we left the house. I was "drunk," I saw breasts and my new team were national champs…I was a fan.
