dergibog
All this talk about the Halloween Massacre reminded me of a Halloween game in 1964. The Huskers beat Mizzou 9-0. But the night before, my friend Jay and I had a genius idea. We went trick or treating on Friday night. We wore some Husker gear and glumly walked up to houses and rang the doorbell. The people who answered the door were pretty confused. Halloween was Saturday not Friday we were told over and over again. We explained that our parents were going to the Husker game (true), and wouldn't let us go trick or treating on Saturday (not true). We got lots of sympathy and a pillow case of candy! The next night we went out again (my grandparents escorting us) in full costume, so we wouldn't be recognized, and filled another sack with candy. Best Halloween EVER! Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I remember using pillow cases for trick-or-treating. I'd forgotten all about that. Now kids have bags, plastic pumpkins or whatever, all specially-made for the job. Quote Link to comment

dergibog
Okay, maybe I shouldn't have gone so far back down memory lane. The '92 game was awesome. My seats were in the East Balcony. Every time the sleet picked up, we cheered louder. We cheered for the Huskers, we cheered for the weather, we just made noise. It was great. Quote Link to comment
junior4949
Wasn't that game also the first time we'd beat CU in like three or four years? Quote Link to comment
dergibog
Wasn't that game also the first time we'd beat CU in like three or four years? 91 was the 19-19 tie where the CU fans were throwing snowballs at the kicker 90 the Huskers lost 27-12 89 the Huskers lost 27-21 I seem to remember we didn't catch some punts in that game and had terrible field position 88 Huskers won 7-0 Quote Link to comment
Eric the Red
Boy, you wanna talk about crowd noise. Even when the game was well in hand, it was a relentless onslaught of constant noise. The coming out party for not only Tommie Frazier but for our 4-3 defensive change. Trev Alberts and Travis Hill were absolutely everywhere. INT on the first play. Quick TD. This game was the kickstart for the great 90's run. I was not at this game. I did get to go to the next weeks game against a top 15 Kansas, which was just as much an onslaught. If anyone has this game (colorado) on vhs or dvd, I would love to work something out on getting a copy. Prefferably the espn broadcast. it's one of the very few missing from my collection. I have heard from many that crowd noise was always louder in those days....I feel it's directly related to all the electronics, big screens, and computer graphics tat takes away from it. Or it's a case of some that feel, "everything was better back in the day." Quote Link to comment
huskerstuckinmichigan
I was at this game as well, the weather was aweful the whole night. My car over heated just as we got to the stadium and I didn't even care, figured we would deal with it after the game. I remember the first play of the game, Colorado had the ball and we intercepted it, it was all down hill for the Buffaloes after that. We were in the south endzone just above the students section. In the third quarter they started chanting, "we want more, we want more," it sounded like thunder it was so loud. I still have pictures I took that are packed away somewhere, several are from behind the goal posts in the south endzone as the students were tearing them down after the game. That was the craziest crowd I had ever seen. Quote Link to comment

I have no idea what I'm talking about, but it sounds good to me. Quote Link to comment
The Snork
I was talking with a Colorado Alum once who mentioned this game. Apparently they refer to it as "The Lincoln Assassination." Quote Link to comment
junior4949
I would think they'd view the 94' game as the Lincoln Assassination considering the teams were ranked #1 and #2 heading into the game. Quote Link to comment
Comish
I was at the game as well. Definitely the LOUDEST I can recall before or since. Almost like the weather trapped the noise and kept it permeating the field. Afterwards, downtown Lincoln was deluged with hyperventilating fans (many still in halloween masks) inundating the bars. A good time was had by all. (massive understatement)! Quote Link to comment
Fuzzy
i was 8 years old. plus it was halloween, so i was probably out trick or treating. But if the weather was as nasty as knapp said, i was more than likely in the house pissed off because i couldnt go trick or treating. Quote Link to comment
huskerenner
I was sitting in the north end zone.Fumbleroosky was run right at me.Didn't realize it til it was almost in the endzone. Was also at the Colorado game a few years ago for the 58yard field goal.Something about beating Colorado,I will always enjoy remembering.
