This playoff thing just might have ruined the college football regular season.

Can't go back to the BCS

We are going to be at 4 teams for less time than we were using the BCS and wee are going to add more teams once ADs and Presidents realize that 3 out of the 4 teams are going to be SEC teams.

going to become 8 and then 16. Gonna be college basketball.

Second most over used phrase when trying to convince people not to bring college football into reality.

When Bama, Auburn and Georgia get in to the playoffs and the Pac-12, Big Ten, Big XII and ACC commissioners complain about it it will be reality.

Well, when that happens they will get laughably low tv ratings, sec already had some of the lowest ratings when playing for the "championship", in particular that low rated travesty when those jokers didn't even have to play nationally to get this "national championship". A couple years of that and there will be hardly an eyeball watching outside of Gumpville, making the whole thing even more irrelevant.

That's fine but they aren't going to INTENTIONALLY drop a SEC team in the poll. They are going to expand to 6/8.

Yea, that's why the only fair and competitive thing to do is to have conference champions only. O yea, and stop playing all the games down south and out west. As I recall the north and the east has some of the best facilities in the country, be it indoor or outdoor.

Preaching to the choir on what they SHOULD do which is not what they WILL do.

these games are ultimately for selling hotels and vacations and most people don't want to play in the elements(even the B1G decided to play indoors). That severely limits northern options to Minnesota, Indianapolis and Detroit.

What???

Let's go back to pre BCS. There was maybe 3-4 bowls that meant anything to the NC talk. That was on a good year. In a typical year, it was down to maybe two games.

Now, the BCS era came with the championship game and it pitted the 1vs 2 together. Gee. OK....now you just have one game deciding it instead of two. It was still better because you at least pitted the two together that should be playing instead of the cluster that was 1997 when Michigan and Nebraska should have played but the system was too screwed up to allow it.

NOW, you are going to have three games with major meaning every year to the championship. The rest play for spots in the final top 25.

NOTHING is devaluing any bowl game. It's the most over used buzz phrase in college football.

that's the point. 3 or 4 bowl games that matter is still more than 1 (BCS) or 3 (playoff). Also ten teams felt special on Jan 1st in the old bowl era. The fans spent Jan 1 watching all 5 because they were all important. And winning a major bowl felt about as good as getting voted #1 the next week.

Now there will be four schools that feel important instead of two. That's double than the BCS era but still not as many.

the Sugar Bowl had plenty of meaning this year, of course not as much as before the BCS.

:confucius

We're usually told SEC teams are disinterested in their bowl games if it's not for the national championship.

the dominance doesn't count 13 out of 14 teams.

Jan 1st in Soldier Field, one can only dream.
