The University of Missouri did not investigate or tell law enforcement officials about an alleged rape, possibly by one or more members of its football team, despite administrators finding out about the alleged 2010 incident more than a year ago, an "Outside the Lines" investigation has found. The alleged victim, a member of the swim team, committed suicide in 2011.

If I were a father and had a daughter, this would be my biggest fear. Once they go away to college, you cannot protect them anymore. What we are seeing over and over again is if you are a high profile athlete (football, basketball), you get special treatment. The rules don't apply to you. How many times must we hear about this before things change?

An alleged sexual assault by an athlete at Missouri in 2010... sounds familiar.

Was the alleged perpetrator Mike Dixon?

Nope, that was in January 2010. The alleged victim (a tutor) decided not to press charges. He remained on the basketball team. After 2 years, in 2012, when a second alleged sexual assault incident came up he was forced to leave MU.

Was the perpetrator Derrick Washington?

Nope, that was actually in June 2010. When Derrick Washington - after having sex with the victims' roommate (a tutor) - assaulted her roommate (also a tutor). He was convicted.

“Too many tutors were having sex with the athletes,” Hayes [a Boone County assistant prosecutor] says, “and really filthy conversations were going on between players and girls. It was a sexually charged environment. It was a joke — the whole tutorial situation.”

(She would later clarify, saying, basically, that this wasn't her opinion she was repeating was told to her, by the tutors)

But, fortunately, the MU AD investigated:

“When this issue came up in 2010, there were some comments that were made about that,” Alden [MU's Athletic Director] said. “I know we reviewed that at that time and found that overall, our mentoring and tutoring program is well run. Again, I think it’s important that if issues arise, you look into them. But at least what we have seen, it’s been a positive environment, a positive culture. That’s what we have seen.”

Now, a 3rd alleged incident. This time in February 2010, involving 3 football players. At least the tutoring program isn't involved in this one?
