HuskerinSunDiego
The McNeese State game is the one that probably cause the biggest concern to us. Is it proof that we aren't as good as we had hoped, or is it just an aberration? Well, here are close call wins from very good past Husker teams. Proof that one close call doesn't mean we're deficient: 1993 - NU 21 KU 20. KU sucked back then, too. Their 2 point conversion at the end failed. If this great team can nearly lose to a sucky team, then the win over McNeese State is acceptable. 1994 - NU 42 Wyoming 32. We were only up 35-32 late, when Wyoming fumbled the punt. If not, possibly no national championship. Frazier in his prime almost lost to these scrubs. 1995 - NU 37 OU 0. Not a close game. Just like that way that sounds. 1997 - NU 45 - Mizzou 38 in OT. Mizzou was not a strong team back then. Decent, but not strong. Ask Peyton Manning if this showed we were weak! 1999 - NU 20 SoMiss 13. A crappy game by our standards. We bounced back nicely. 2007 - NU 41 Ball State 40. Proof that this team was a good team . . . oh wait . . . never mind. Looking back over the last 20+ years, a few things struck me: 1. We haven't been rated number 1 since 2000; 2. In 2001, we were never rated number 1; 3. We haven't been rated in the top 10 since 2011; Hopefully all three of these change this year (And, yes, I'm wiping red Kool-Aid off my face as I say this!) Quote Link to comment
TonyStalloni
This was MSU's first game of the season and they had practiced for a month on how to beat NU. I do hope they have a good season though. 1 Quote Link to comment
RedDenver
Couple of things. 1994 Wyoming game was when Tommie was out with blood clots and Berringer had a collapsed lung that got reinflated during halftime 1997 Mizzou was ranked #20 I think 1 Quote Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher
Misery was not ranked until the last two games of that season. Quote Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
Some of us remember a very good 1992 team with a young Tommie Frazier spurring optimism. Nebraska had just destroyed #8 Colorado and #13 Kansas, then went on the road to unranked and presumably cupcake Iowa State and got drubbed 19-10 in a game that wasn't even that close. A Nebraska team with Tommie Frazier, Derek Brown and Calvin Jones had only 246 yards total offense. sh#t happens. 1 Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
Im pretty sure we were bcs #1 for at least a week or two after the oklahoma win. That was a 1vs 2 game. Quote Link to comment
OH HSKR FAN
I'm of the opinion that pick 6 changed the complexion of that game. A TD there might have put some game pressure on the Cowboys. Quote Link to comment
JJ Husker
One game per season is an aberration. Three to four games per season for six or seven years is pretty much a trend. We're 4-0 right now. We can call McNeese an aberration.......until it happens again, then we're headed back in line with the trend. Let's hope this is the season we begin a new trend. It sure appears this could be it. 1 Quote Link to comment
MichiganDad3
Don't forget Colorado in 1997. Michigan killed them, and I ran my mouth all season that NU would kill Colorado worse than Michigan, then we squeak by 27-24. My friends and colleagues used the Colorado comparison to prove Michigan was the real national champion. Quote Link to comment

I do hope they have a good season though. I know for a fact that this is not true. You guys might end up wanting to thank us before this season is over with. I think our game was a wake up call for your players that they need to take the game preparation for every game seriously. I hope you guys run the table for the rest of the season. Guy Chamberlin
Yeah, that Colorado game was scary. For a few years there, Colorado threw everything at Nebraska in that final game, hoping make up for another crappy underachieving season. Nebraska was hardly a juggernaut in 2008, but if Henery misses that 57 yard field goal, that's a crushing loss to a pretty lousy Colorado team. Quote Link to comment
MichiganDad3
McNeese72, I grew up in Louisiana, and visited McNeese several times. I was on the Louisiana Tech bowling team. I assume you graduated in 72, I graduated in 84. Here's wishing you a great season. Quote Link to comment

We tend to get multiple wake-up calls every season, and tend to hit the snooze button. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
Maybe it was a fluke, but we hear this same pep talk every year, and it's never a fluke. It becomes less inspiring every year. Quote Link to comment

The loss to Colorado in 2008 may have resulted in a seven win season. I remember losing to Colorado meant that we would not have made a bowl game. Of course, I could have a bad memory.
