We currently have 19 commits plus two transfers.  We could sign 22/23/24 depending on whether Mapieu and Smith actually sign.  Sounding like Mapieu will not sign.   Smith sure indicates that he will be signing.  23 seems most likely right now with Mapieu not signing but (probably) still showing up later.

  • One OL: Bell -> Hall -> Canty -> Sampson
  • One OLB: JJB ->  Baldonado
  • One RB: Washington -> Henry -> Bryant?
  • One or maybe two DBs: Jones likely commits Monday -> Palmer back in the picture -> Taylor/Torain
  • Tago an option but not a priority (IMO)
  • We'd be open to adding another WR but probably only if we miss out on other spots: Hunt -> Hall
  • Maybe Ogbonnia at DT if we miss at a couple spots

I also see that Frost has offered either a 2019 or 2020 kid from Calabassas High School.  I thought that was supposed to dry up if Riley were fired? #fakenews

It would be a bad move if Frost didn't try to continue the relationship with that school.  He also probably recruited there when he was at Oregon.

So...it seems like we have anywhere from 3-5 spots left.

Is it:

In if they choose Nebraska:

Bell

Jones

JJB

Washington

Only if we have a spot or of one of those four doesn't sign:

Palmer

Tannor

Henry

Hall

I would say that's pretty much correct.  Henry and Hall are definitely backup plans.  I think we're kind of out of it with Tannor anyway.

Palmer would be the interesting one.  I think he'd definitely be a take as we really need a true CB.  But I'm not sure how the Bell/Jones/JJB/Washington/Palmer pecking order would go.  Or maybe then we'd make Smith wait like Mapieu.  :dunno

Where does Tago fit in

My impression - and I don't know if this is right or not - is he's a bit down the list priority-wise.  We're definitely taking an OL, RB and DB.  More than likely a LB (unless we really strike out).  So I'm not sure where his spot would come from.  Either really strike out other places or not have Smith sign.

Maybe he's a take if we miss on JJB as Tago could end up at OLB.

So....if we sign Bell, Jones, JJB and Washington and keep somehow the two academic risks....our average player rating for this class would be .8775.  Last year when Riley signed the class, I think a lot of people thought that class was pretty decent.  Not dominating...but decent.  It's average player rating was .8781.

Last year, we had two of our top players not make it to fall camp (Blades, Johnson).

This year, we have two that might not make it, but they are farther down the player ranking list than last year's problem children.

My rose colored glasses allow me to have the view that if Frost can do this with a couple months.....he should be able to have much better results when he has all year.

I'm excited to see how this turns out.
