Bowfin
Was it one of the Callahan years? Quote Link to comment
VA Husker Fan
2008 (Pelini's first year). Before that, 2004 (Callahan's first year). Before that, 1962, Devaney's first year, when there was only a top 10. 1961 before that, and much of the 1950s. 1 Quote Link to comment
VA Husker Fan
In fact, besides Osborne and Solich, the only other coach to be ranked at all his first season since rankings came out in 1936 was Biff Jones in 1937. I count 10 of 13 who did not. Quote Link to comment

We went 9-4 in 2008. Took #7 Texas Tech to OT before losing. Beat Clemson in the Gator Bowl. Yet we were still unranked. : 1 Quote Link to comment

While they finished stronger there was no reason one way or the other that they should be ranked or unranked Quote Link to comment

And coincidentally, a month later Oklahoma was ranked #4 too. They both hung lots of points on everyone they played. OU didn't score less than 60 from November on, except when they played #1 Florida in the BCS championship game. LINK Quote Link to comment
VA Husker Fan
We were coming off that 5-7 season also. No wins over ranked teams either year. We were just getting off the bottom and needed to prove ourselves again to get any respect. Quote Link to comment

There's a lot of talent there. Too much to end up being unranked one would think. Then again it's a Pelini team we're talking about here. We lost to every ranked team we played that year and the 62-28 thrashing we took at Oklahoma didn't help our case. Missouri also beat us 52-17 that season. Quote Link to comment

Landlord
It's almost like it often takes at least a year for a new coach to start getting the full potential out of the previous staff's players! 1 Quote Link to comment
