Future of the Republican Party

Recommended Posts

Change or die truly is the reality. Our nation is becoming more diverse and the Republican party isn't. Unless they get that wall put up and all brown people deported I think we are going to see a Democrat in the White House more often than not.

Is the Democrat party really much more diverse than the Republican? They SAY they are, but are they really?

Let me ask you this. Other than white men, what minority is more likely to be a Republican than a Democrat.

Not blacks

Not women

Not hispanics

Not young people

Not gay people

.....etc.

BTW...this is a serious question. I've thought about this a lot. I guess you could say Christians. I'm not sure Jewish people would be Republican. Anyone????

I see your point but, minority groups being fooled and played by a political party is hardly evidence that said party is really any better for them. Sure, the Dems pickup more of those minority groups but the real question is, should they?

I'm not sure how any sensible adult could blindly support either party any more.

If we actually looked up the percentage of the Democratic party that are minorities, it might not be a lot higher than for the Republican party. I haven't looked so I don't know. Maybe it's 20% vs 10%.

But if you look at the percentage of each minority group who votes Democrat it's a lot higher.

Oh...I agree. The Democrat party is a big farce for so many of these groups. They have absolutely no desire to fix any of their problems because they know these groups already view the Republicans as the party against them. So, as long as there are problems for these groups, they are going to flock to the Dems because they at least fake it well.

So, we have

Republicans:

Angry white men over 35

Christians

Democrats:

Blacks

Hispanics

Women

Young people

LBGQ

Pretty much everyone else

I think the Hispanic vote is more towards the middle than anything. In my huge huge huge family of Hispanic relatives I don't think I can name more than a few that aren't devout Catholic Republicans. It's crazy that their religion overrules their feelings towards immigration and treatment towards their own people from Republicans.

Also I think withing 10 years a third party will be allowed on the docket and it will be close to a Jill stein style of socialistic party that many young people will flock to.

Jewish people, as a whole are traditionally democratic supporters (similar to african american when it comes to voting party lines)

Roy isn’t happy about this: He believes it means the Democrats will dominate national American politics for some time. But he also believes the Republican Party has lost its right to govern, because it is driven by white nationalism rather than a true commitment to equality for all Americans.
No party will ever truly dominate. First, even if the Democrats win five straight presidential elections, they have their work cut out for them when it comes to the Senate, the Supreme Court, the House, and state and local.
Second, in a fantasy world where one party does truly dominate both elections and the electorate, it will splinter. There have always been different opinions and different wings within both parties. The thing that holds them together is the unified, organized political movement opposing them. Lacking that the coalitions will reshape.
It's a healthy sort of disruption, and one that I think may actually be in reach if the GOP is allowed to implode while out of power. In the very optimistic view the white nationalist fringe is repudiated, and competing sane groups form.
If the GOP wins the presidency, though, then that will truly be frightening. Who knows what could happen?

As a life long Republican till a couple years ago, I found this article very interesting.

LINK

CLEVELAND Avik Roy is a Republicans Republican. A health care wonk and editor at Forbes, he has worked for three Republican presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and Marco Rubio. Much of his adult life has been dedicated to advancing the Republican Party and conservative ideals.

But when I caught up with Roy at a bar just outside the Republican convention, he said something Ive never heard from an establishment conservative before: The Grand Old Party is going to die.

I dont think the Republican Party and the conservative movement are capable of reforming themselves in an incremental and gradual way, he said. Theres going to be a disruption.

Roy isnt happy about this: He believes it means the Democrats will dominate national American politics for some time. But he also believes the Republican Party has lost its right to govern, because it is driven by white nationalism rather than a true commitment to equality for all Americans.

Until the conservative movement can stand up and live by that principle, it will not have the moral authority to lead the country, he told me.

And there are countless stories and anecdotes about Democrats who feel their party has left them and they have joined the GOP. As is the case with the economy and business in general, political parties go through cycles of ups and downs. In 2004 and 2005 many were writing the obituary for the Democratic party and they won the midterms in 2006 and the Presidency in 2008 and 2012. It is true the GOP must reach out to new voters, and I never would have expected Trump to do it, but he is making the strongest effort toward LGBT and other minorities than any GOP candidate I have ever seen. If he didnt turn off so many voters with his crazy statements he would win this election in a landslide.

I'm actually not surprised at this because he isn't a Republican and he never has been up until he all of a sudden wanted to run for President. He opposed many of their policies that Republicans hold very close to their hearts and he actually thinks Hillary would make a great President.

Actually, there are some things he has said in the past that I wish the republicans would listen to. If it weren't coming from an egotistical fraud, I might actually vote for the guy.

The funny thing is, so many of his followers (that I know personally anyway) would have NEVER voted for someone who has some of his stances on issues....but.....hey....he has an R in front of his name now so he must be our savior in a suit.

I agree on the last paragraph...but with the awful past 8 years, voters are willing to overlook some of his positions to try to instill real change to the political class.

Great point. I never will understand blacks voting for Dems at a 95% rate...especially given that black lives are not better under Obama. The Dems are great at identity politics and racial and class warfare which is why Obama has not done more to address the racial divisions in this country. With the white vote shrinking, he wants to do everything possible to maximize the minority vote.
