knapplc
Congress' approval rating is somewhere in the low teens, I believe. And yet, idiots like this keep getting reelected. And then people bitch about Washington and "the swamp" and vote for these guys again. 1 Link to comment
knapplc
I was a volunteer on the David Karnes campaign when, during a debate at the State Fair, he told Nebraskans that the Family Farmer was not going to last. He was roundly booed, and ended up losing the campaign to Bob Kerry. It'll be a test of the brainwashing of the American farmer to see if similar remarks are met with similar results in the next election. Quote Trump farm secretary in Wisconsin: No guarantee small farms will survive President Donald Trump’s agriculture secretary said Tuesday during a stop in Wisconsin that he doesn’t know if the family dairy farm can survive as the industry moves toward a factory farm model. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue told reporters following an appearance at the World Dairy Expo in Madison that it’s getting harder for farmers to survive on milking less than 100 cows. “In America, the big get bigger and the small go out,” Perdue said. “I don’t think in America we, for any small business, we have a guaranteed income or a guaranteed probability of survival.” Perdue’s visit comes as Wisconsin dairy farmers are wrestling with a host of problems, including declining milk prices, rising suicide rates, the transition to larger farms with hundreds or thousands of animals and Trump’s international trade wars. 1 Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Family farms around me have been consolidating all my life. They have been consolidating since the west was settled and land was homesteaded. The large farms around me are still owned by families. Yes, they are incorporated ...as they should be. Personally, I think the “family farm” is largely a talking point that is only used to lock in base votes....much like many other issues. Why aren’t we talking about how small town locally owned stores aren’t as prevalent as before, or locally owned radio stations, or news papers, or clothing factories...etc.? Link to comment
