The Angry Violent Right

GOP Montana politician attacks reporter...Trump supports him and then makes jokes about it.

Sorry...I see you included this one.  I just thought it interesting that Trump still supports the guy and actually jokes about what he did.

That one is particularly interesting because, not only was he strongly supported by trump, he was elected by Republicans after the attack.

I know...interesting isn't it.

But...hey....we Independents are supposed to be calling all the Democrats and telling them to stop it.

Yep.

And that list doesn't even mention the Right's long history of terrorism, from Eric Gardner to Timothy McVeigh, because I didn't want to deal with "that was so long ago."  So I just stuck with relatively recent ones.

I could have made dozens of posts of the threats made during Trump's party rallies alone.  He gets up there and whips the crowd into a frenzy and the reporters have to be guarded from the mob.

Oh...yes.....and how many Right wingers rushed to Nevada to confront Government law enforcement with their guns.

I wonder if those right wingers supported law enforcement.

Funny how quiet this thread is. It's like half the people on P&R don't want to acknowledge it.

Before I can be labeled for hypocrisy let me make the following disclaimers:

• I think it's wrong to punch Nazis

• I think ANTIFA is bad and misguided

• I think anyone being destructive or causing harm or being violent during protest is misguided and counterproductive

• I think hating cops is immature and misguided and makes things worse

• I actually subscribe to an entirely non-violent worldview, and think anyone liberal or conservative who must or wants to resort to violence is off base and should be admonished and encouraged to find a better solution

What should be UN)necessary disclaimers out of the way,

We have our Republican, "so called" conservative President, who has

• claimed to have punched and gave his teacher a black eye in the 2nd grade as an aggressive kid

• told people at his rallies he would pay for their legal fees if they engaged in violence against protestors

• explicitly suggested to the same people at his rallies to "knock the crap out of" anyone they saw with a tomato?

• said he'd like to punch a protestor in the face

• had a federal judge reject his dismissal of a suit against him claiming that protestors injuries were a "direct and proximate result" of Trump's comments

• encouraged police officers to be more rough with suspects saying,  "When you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just seen them thrown in, rough. I said, 'Please don’t be too nice", and, "When you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head you know, the way you put their hand over [their head]," Trump continued, mimicking the motion. "Like, 'Don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody, don’t hit their head.' I said, 'You can take the hand away, OK?'"

• said, "maybe he should have been roughed up because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing"

• said, "in the good old days this doesn't happen because they used to treat them very, very rough"

• said, "i love the old days, you know what they used to do to guys like that when they were in a place like this? they'd be carried out in a stretcher folks"

• said, "You know, part of the problem, and part of the reason it takes so long, is nobody wants to hurt each other anymore, right?"

and then we have ardent supporters of him, choosing to

A) Not really address any of these in specificity as individual incidents

B) Not really address the obvious common TREND behind all of these moments and quotes

C) Spend plenty of energy and particular focus criticizing individual incidents and the 'trend' of anger and/or violence on the left side of the political spectrum

D) Expect to be taken seriously or perceived as having a rational, consistent perspective by others on the board

So I guess that's where we're at. Which is so weird and goofy, because the right clearly moreso than the left (although it is certainly existent to some degree across the political spectrum) has been taken captive by this relative truth, postmodern worldview that isn't actually based on evidence, fact, data, or rational thought. But I thought postmodernism and relativism were supposed to be an anti-christian, anti-American, far left ideology that the liberals and academia were using to hijack people's minds. So either the liberals were incredibly successful with their grand strategy that they convinced the whole country there is no such thing as truth anymore, or the conservatives are just unaware how they've been manipulated into their own kind of non-truth.

"Those cover the waterfront of the full range of extremist ideologies from right to left and everything in between," Wray said."

I'm trying to remember the nut job in the forests of the NW who ended up in the shoot out wt FBI during the Clinton years.   I think he was reacting to the Waco clash.  Oh well so much for brain fog.

What is sad to me - is that all of these people and incidents named above end up staining and altering the more moderate philosophy they get tied to.  So we have someone like Trump and what has become the new republican party of malcontents, misfits, and masqueraders stating they represent conservatism when in fact they represent a radical nationalism.

Trump is the ruin of the Republican party and it is time to allow it to die - let all of these radical nationalists have it or find strong leadership (doubtful) that can remove the stain of what Trump has brought to the party.  However, the party has seceded all of its rights and identity to the camel who got its nose in the tent and eventually took over.

Time for the Libertarian Party to stop nominating loony tune guys and get some leaders who can challenge what will soon be a Democratic majority.   The Dem party is leaning too far left (my opinion) and we see that the Repub party is going alt right.  Trump may win in 2020 if Repubs hold Congress in 2018 & if the Dems nominate one of the dinosaurs that may run.  Yes, Trump is also a dinosaur but the Dem dinosaurs don't represent change (clinton, Biden, Sauders, Warren) as much as a younger face would.   If that is the case, I see it as  both a final Hurrah and a final death nail in the Grand old Party - this nation can only take so much of Trump, the alt right and the political drama that is Trump.

I hope right of center and left of center republicans move to the Libertarian Party or start the process of rebuilding the party  by allowing it to go  into the wilderness and come out born again as the party of Lincoln and Reagan.    As an independent voter, we need more choices.

GOP Senator David Perdue Rips Phone Away When Student Confronts Him (VIDEO)

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) ripped a phone out of a constituent’s hand late Saturday morning as the constituent was recording their encounter.

The Republican senator was being asked a question about Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp‘s widely-reported attempts to purge the voter registrations of thousands of black voters in the Peach State. Kemp is currently running for governor against Democrat Stacey Abrams.

Perdue was on the Georgia Tech campus on Saturday to campaign for Kemp. A student and member of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) began to ask a question about Kemp’s alleged disenfranchisement scheme.

In an interview with Law&Crime, the student asked not to be named out fear of retaliation and doxxing. The student clarified that he wasn’t particularly worried about retribution from Perdue’s official camp but expressed concern that Perdue’s fellow travelers would “sic the mobs” on him and go after his livelihood.

“Given what happened in New York City on Friday night, we’re seeing the development of fascism in America,” the student said, in reference to Pro-Trump gangs of “Proud Boys” beating people on the streets while the NYPD apparently did nothing. “The GOP knows they can’t win in debate or civil discourse so they’ll resort to violence and repression of dissidents.”

Minnesota GOP Senate Contender Compared Michelle Obama To A ‘Chimp’ On Facebook

Republican Karin Housley, a state senator running to represent Minnesota in the U.S. Senate, compared then-first lady Michelle Obama to a “chimp” in 2009.

In an April 2009 Facebook post, Housley criticized the first lady’s posture when she met Queen Elizabeth II.

“Michelle is soooo far from cool. Don’t we expect our First Ladies to at least stand up straight? (And my dear sister, know the proper etiquette and DO NOT TOUCH THE QUEEN!),” Housley wrote on her Facebook wall.

In the comment thread on her post, Housley said the chimpanzee in the 1951 film “Bedtime for Bonzo,” starring then-actor Ronald Reagan, likely had better posture than Mrs. Obama.

“I do miss Nancy Reagan. Ronald even more. Speaking of Bedtime for Bonzo, I think even that chimp stood up straighter than Michelle,” Housley wrote. “Uh-oh, someone is going to make a comment.”

Comparing African-Americans to apes, even obliquely, as Housley did, has been a longstanding feature of racist American innuendo.

I don’t expect racists to be capable of reason and I don’t know why I care enough to bring this up since the woman is a racist, but Michelle Obama was following protocol by curtsying to the Queen. So is she supposed to break protocol or follow it? Also, the Queen touched her back and clearly loved the Obamas.

I honestly don’t see how anyone can dislike Michelle Obama other than for her stance on abortion or due to their racism. I can’t think of a single other reason.

Eh.

There's a longstanding tradition where Americans don't bow to foreign rulers, especially unelected rulers.  But I think it's like the Flag Code - it's more a suggestion than a hardened-fast rule.

So whether she should have bowed or not is probably up to interpretation.  Personally, I could bow to a King or Queen out of deference to their position in the same way that I'd shake a CEO's hand and give a little head nod as I do it.  Doesn't mean I'm surrendering my nation's sovereignty while I do it. :D

This is the photo I thought it was about (when I was looking on phone), so I just assumed she must have curtsied. But when I actually look it up using the word "curtsy" there's nothing else. This is more like a Michelle is really tall compared to the queen thing. It's hilarious looking back at what people complained about before.

I'd have to see video of it to be sure.

Even if she did... eh. I don't care.  George W. Bush bowed to some Middle Eastern ruler and Trump danced a jig with the Saudis and we're still standing.  American supremacy can override just about anything these days.

I didn't expect them to. None of the Trumpsters on this board want to acknowledge any of the realities of their party.  They want to pretend the Fox & Friends narrative is true and anything that runs counter to that is to be ignored or shouted over.

She took a LOT of heat for that, including right here on HuskerBoard.  The allegation was that kids were going hungry because the food was inedible and they were throwing it away. Remember all the videos of kids throwing their lunch in the trash?

I can buy that the portions were too small, but not that it was inedible. Kids who eat sweets, potato chips, pizza, hot dogs, and McDonald’s at home are going to think fruits and vegetables are “inedible.”

Ya. I have read the jokes and complaints. It’s another way to hate her while pretending it has nothing to do with her being Black.

Hating her is a lot like hating Laura Bush. i.e. it makes no sense. Laura Bush influenced NCLB which was a disaster but I don’t dislike her for it.

If you assume he was speaking literally, of course not. But it seemed clear to me that was simply hyperbole.
