I didn’t say They are leaving   They are pushing their kids into other career choices because of the reasons I listed.

I'm not doubting you have had these discussions with Drs.

But, sometimes someone in a situation doesn't always think logically.  It's a classic "grass is greener" scenario.

So...a Dr wants their child to go into another profession because he's getting a pay cut......meanwhile, that child probably won't make as much as they would if they were a Dr even after the pay cut.

This is because a career in healthcare is no longer about care, it is about maximizing profit at all levels. This is why a for-profit healthcare system results in worse care, less preventative care, and higher prices for lower quality.

So I’m clear.  Are you suggesting all doctors should be employees of a government health system with capped incomes?

All of them?

I think you are discounting the brain drain that will happen especially amongst specialists.

Not all obviously (no absolutes) but in general they want to own their own practice and control their own schedules.   Your proposal takes that away.  What’s the long term incentive?

Yes salaried employees with no chance of owning their own practice. Is that what you suggest?

There are many many many Drs that are salaried within a healthcare system.  Our local hospital is an example.  The same can be said for lots of Drs that work in huge healthcare facilities.

No....don't believe it.

Why then are there specialists in Europe?  And, no...our specialists aren't better than there specialists.

That's not what I was suggesting and nearly preposterous to suggest. College education is primarily state funded- does that mean there are no private colleges? Pre-K through high school is primarily government funded, does that mean there are no private schools? Law has all sorts of jobs that are publicly funded, does that mean there are no private practices? I could go on and on and on.

My Goodness, you really like to nit  pick around the edges.  I specifically said no absolutes and was not referring to all doctors.

I work with 65 in a sub-specialty across 4 states and only 6 work in a Non-physician owned clinic.  All perform surgery in a hospital.

Prior to that I worked with specialists across 2 states that refer to the sub-specialists I currently work with and 22 of the 185 worked in a non-physician owned Clinic.  Split between surgery cases in an ASC vs a hospital surgery center.

Then how are you going to take out the profit incentive of medicine which you railed about.  Talk about preposterous.

It's called a discussion.  Nobody has said ALL Drs would be required to be on a salary.  But, you nitpicked on that.  You shouldn't get so offended when someone points out something in a discussion.

Actually I asked him to clarify what he was talking about so I understood. Once He said all of them I gave my opinion based on what I work with. That’s not nit picking.
