He can also run circles around you explaining how the private sector actually works.

I don’t think at Bernie’s age he will be running around anyone in circles while explaining how the private sector works;)

Also, I don’t believe he knows a whole heck of a lot on economics aside from “Government needs to give away more money”

Well he comes from the same line that got you social security, two day weekends, child labor laws, and Veteran Benefits reform. He can also run circles around you explaining how the private sector actually works.

Yeah, I think Bernie wrote "The Jungle"

I guess some posters think that Bernie was in office back in the early 1900's.

You would actually have to read the detailed budget and ROI he always provided for his proposals. Might surprise you. As mentioned, what's often decried as government hand-outs and socialism typically offer long-term benefits for a larger scope of business interests. You'd have to favor longer-term systemic solutions over the immediate gratification of the few, which, interestingly enough, used to be a conservative value.

Makes one feel lucky to be in the 25%...because but for the grace of God go I.

The 60th percentile average household income is $93,900.  The 50th percentile average household income is $75,000.

i dont think that means people are too poor to pay taxes.   We just choose to lessen the tax burden on those folks and make the top 25% pay the vast majority of it.   Much more accurate than what the other person said.

That’s 2 people making an avg. of $37,500. That was hard before inflation. Keep in mind this isn’t just for the midwest.

No, that’s one household making $75,000.   Could be one earner, could be two earners.  Depends on the household.

And yes, that $75k or $93.9k goes a lot further in the Midwest or a Buffalo/Pittsburg than in NY/LA/Chicago.

Back when we had American Greatness under Bill Clinton and his balanced budget with Newt.  The top 1% paid roughly 34.8% of the total income tax.   Back in that great American timeframe, it seemed 34.8% of the tot income was their fair share and allowed for a balanced budget.

Now they pay 46% and we add trillions in debt every year.  Let’s say we add 3% to the top rate and make it 40% tax rate.   Will that extra 3% make much of a dent in the yearly deficit in and of itself.   If Congress wants to do that, fine.  I certainly won’t complain, but it won’t really touch what needs to be done for fiscal sanity.

I’m of the opinion these folks do pay their fair share, but if we want them to pay more then say that.  Quit with the verbiage of “paying their fair share” and just say we need them to pay more at this point in time.   Then let’s cut spending and dig into this debt debacle that will eventually cripple the country.

Notice how I did that without calling names?

Ok….so, your problem is that the top 1% pays to much of the total. They are paying that with a lower tax rate.

Well, if you want that to change, the other 99% need to be making more. Thats how that changes. It’s not by lowering the tax rate farther on the top 1%.

So….no I don’t have a problem at all.   I’m simply pointing out that we had a balanced budget when “their fare share” was a much lower percentage of the tax base.  Now  their percentage of the tax base is much higher, people say they are no longer” paying their fair share” and we are trillions more in debt each year.   Their is a greater underlying problem than “the rich aren’t paying their fare share”

Oh god, please, no more wage increases for HS students that live with their parents and have no bills at all.

It’s crazy isn’t it.   My 16 yr old makes $18.50 an hour at his place of employment.   Doesn’t get many hours in this time of year because of baseball, but he makes bank for his age in the fall and winter.

Most of my students would not even take a job for less than 15 an hour right now!  And my students come from rich families!

Had one that quit working at Crumble Cookies because they were "only making 18 an hour"
