Slow yer Roll
Google hates me. Any clue? Was there another school in ne called the aggies? Quote Link to comment
Mavric
The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis used to have a basketball team that was the Aggies. Not sure they were around in 1916. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
Nebraska were called the Cornhuskers in 1916, so it wouldn't be a reference to the UNL football team. Nebraska played two different opponents called the Aggies in 1916 - Oregon State and Kansas State. Can we see more of that photo? Quote Link to comment
suh_fan93
That's pretty cool actually. I have never heard of this 'Nebraska Aggies' until today. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
Interesting rabbit hole. The Nebraska Aggies were at one time coached by Robert C. Russell, and appear to have had some connections to Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity (although that may just be a reference to Russell). They represented the School of Agriculture from UNL's East Campus Ag School per this Daily Nebraskan article from 1933. They played teams like Doane, Harvard (NE), Nebraska Wesleyan, York, etc. They also had a basketball team. 3 1 Quote Link to comment
Danimal
I've always thought we should have rolled with the Maneating Mastodons. Quote Link to comment
Toe
Here's a newspaper clipping from 1919 for "The Nebraska Aggies - University School of Agriculture" showing players and coaches with names: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/14039876/ If you view the full page, there's also an advertisement for a Nebraska vs Kansas homecoming football game. If you're curious, we won that game 19-7. 1 Quote Link to comment

The current Oregon State University was the Oregon Agricultural College back then. Beavers since 1910. I've never heard the Aggies moniker used, but a lot of Ag schools were called "Aggies" way back when. Quote Link to comment
