Predict 2018 Recruiting Ranking

Nice info,  it seems like it is kinda of saying that the more kids you already have in the class the harder it is to more the needle on the ranking.  Not sure why they also add weight based on the ranking in the schools class, it would seem to inflate the value of the #1 kid in the class but at least it also limits the impact of a low rated kid.  I wonder then what the value difference is between Alabama's 22nd 4-star and the final 2 star they get down in Kansas based on this formula.  I guess the method can smooth out the numbers and also reduce the impact of rater bias based on the stars bump kids may get if they sign with an Alabama.

Yeah, it's kind of interesting.  It definitely helps to have at least a couple guys who are really highly-ranked.  And it helps adjust for varying class sizes - anything over 14 commits doesn't matter a whole lot.

I don't think it's quite accurate to say the more you have the harder it is to move the needle.  It's somewhat true.  But it would be more precise to say after you have 12-14 commits the guys you add have to be some of your higher-rated guys or it's not going to change much.

So getting Martinez would have made quite a difference.  Adding Bell won't really change things that much.

That makes sense, I like the info a ton, it is interesting how they put it all together.

So if we add, Palmer, JBB, Washington, Jones, and Bell, that puts us at ~231 points on 247 and ranked 17th currently, but probably closer to 20th after the other classes sort out.  Our class last year(Riley's best?) was 216 points and ranked 26th, and that included 2 4 stars that never even put on pads.  That just seems insanely good for a transitional class that he took over with like 7 recruits and coached a NY6 bowl at the same time.

It is.....now give them 12 months and watch the magic happen. Frost will sign a top 10 class to NU in the next couple of years.

I wanted to give myself a 1 year buffer in my prediction though I think you may be right

This thread was created just after Frost was hired, and we are about 10 days away from seeing whose guess was the closest. At the time of origination, NU was 75th to 85 depending on the service. I am still sticking by my prediction of finishing 18th to 20th. It should be an exciting finish.

Frost said we will sign between 24 and 27 this year

I'm seeing last year's recruiting class ranked on 247's composite as #23 with 224.33 points (20 recruits, 6 4-star)

https://nebraska.247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/Commits

If we add 4-7 more, and the most likely at this point are:

Robinson

JBB

Taylor

Tago

plugging those into the class calculator gives a score of 224.54 (20th right now, but #23 using last year's final numbers).  So Riley's best class would be the "basement" for Frost's first transition class?

I'll predict 20-23.  Excellent, given the circumstances.

Yep you're correct, somehow I looked at 2016 and missed 2017. Still like you said its pretty crazy that this should be Frost's worst class. I will also add that while this does happen, Elijah Blades dropping from that class would drop it down to 215 points and 27th.

If you look at Riley's transitional class it sits 4 or so points below what we currently are at and well below where we are looking to finish.  This could be revisionist history, but it also seemed like he had a much stronger class to start with since Bo didn't have a terrible season that year. Pretty much all of the big names Riley had this year had one foot out the door by the time Frost was hired.

Feeling pretty good about this right now:koolaid2:

We are currently at 21 on 247 sports and only a few points behind #20 Michigan. If Hunt, Jackson or Robinson sign we should leapfrog Michigan for the 3rd best class in the BIG. Not bad

3rd place in the Big10 would be a success, and frankly should be the spot we are fighting for every year.

I agree about third place but hope in coming years we can get to top 12 or 15.  This staff has done an amazing job in 8 weeks and if they can get wins on the field in 2018 it will help greatly with the 2019 class.

It'll be Top 25, if we hang onto Brown and Moore.

Pleasantly surprised, considering we lost both!

I think Northwestern might get in trouble with the Big Ten Compliance department.  86 commits is a tad over the limit :D

Fitz is cleaning house and wants a whole new team.  Assuming 1 doesn't make it due to grades.

Corbin Frederick gets us to 228.09 if you'd like to count him.
