Coach Riley called me a couple of weeks ago and asked me my thoughts on practicing on Monday's. I told him that I thought the guys needed the extra day of rest. It would be a good day for film study. Sounds like he listened. LMAO What does it matter!!!! GBR

In some ways this is worse then the Brook tragedy. He had already completed his playing time at NU, Sam was going to be a VERY important piece to this team in 2016. That's not say one has greater importance then the other, but seems worse. With that said, it was shocking news and it did bring back memories of the Brook plan crash. It was as if it was not really happening.

Newby says seniors have set the tone for this season
NU5XChamps replied to lo country's topic in Husker Football
I agree on the bonding aspect of the tragedy from this weekend. I can say though, I am concerned about the whole kicking team. News stories were saying that Drew was the one trying to save him, he may be really messed up in the head after this weekend. I feel for the entire team. It could wind up being the catalyst that puts this team over the top or it could be what implodes them. We will have to wait and see. -
What happens when Riley gets his guy at QB.
NU5XChamps replied to Red_Payne's topic in Husker Football
For the LOVE of all that is HOLY!!! He has stated over and over and over, he wants a balanced attack. He wants to be as close to 50/50 as possible. That doesn't mean every game is 50/50, he is saying overall. Some games we will be pass heavy based on the defenses we are seeing and some we will be run heavy. Also, depending on whether our Blackshirts can stop anyone will dictate our offensive attack. If you really think about it, being 50/50 is really the best offensive game plan. It makes the defense play straight up, they cant lean to one side or the other on their attack. I would bet if you looked at most NFL team statistics you would find the best ones are close to the 50/50 mark. Now can we stop with the "what kind of offense do you think" threads. -
I thought this was a thread about the QB battle during spring ball??? What does the Purdue loss have to do with that??

HOL: Three early takeaways from Husker spring practice
NU5XChamps replied to Saunders's topic in Husker Football
If he shows he is good enough to be the back up, then he should be. You would have POB, Lee, and Bush as your top three in 2017, with one of he young guys redshirting. The only way POB redshirts this year, is if he looks and plays like he is totally lost on the field. Practicing in helmets and shorts doesn't really do much of anything as it relates to gauging his abilities. In other words, if you know your not going to lit up, you have no problem hanging in there the extra second to make the throw. So lets see how he does when they go live. There are lots of "Great" QB's that lost it when they got popped in the mouth. -
Ex - Husker Parrella to be named Husker D-line coach

A former walk-on that played 12 years in the NFL. What experience does he need for you guys. He's been there, done that. That is what the kids are going to see and that is all that matters. The kids, not us old farts. -

Am I the only one who cringes when Huskers are called DONU?
NU5XChamps replied to VA Husker Fan's topic in Husker Football
All I can say is, Wow. I can't believe I read all of this thread. -
I listened to this live the other day. I got more out of it tonight listening to the Pod Cast. It was interesting that Nick Bahe's comments about Tom Bandaras commenting on the previous and current staff. He didn't think it was a good idea, however, I don't think he said anything that was out of line.

Official "way too early" 2016 starting lineup prediction thread
NU5XChamps replied to Hujan's topic in Husker Football
I've heard good things about the Davis twins, but I am surprised people keep penciling them in at the DT spots. Last I looked, they were listed at ~250 lbs., which is WAY too small to play DT in the Big Ten. They will get plowed over. As bad as Banker's D was at times, it could at least count on two +300 lbs. tackles plugging up the middle. If you put in two 250 lbs. tackles, teams are going to start doing to us what we did to UCLA. We'd have problems stopping the run AND pass. IMO, if they are that light, I'd like to see what the Davis twins can do on the outside. If they have the athleticism to be premier pass rushers, having a tandem like that on the outside with a couple big heavies to plug the middle would be amazing. I like this idea as well. Plug up the middle and get some push from the outside. As long as they understand they don't rush blindly, they have to watch for the outlet pass. -
I can't believe that the "Fire Reilly" talk would turn a recruit off all by itself. However, if they are on the fence then it would be a HUGE factor. Did we get the season we all expected, no. Maybe our expectations were off from the start. Even after the season has played out, I still can't believe we lost 4 games on the opponents last possession. If we win 50% of those, do things look better, maybe or maybe not. 2016-2017 seasons will determine the "Reilly Era", not 2015. No way he gets more than 3 years if he don't turn it around quickly.

MR said he wants a strong running game. Not sure if that was just for this game or going forward. With POB coming to town, he will not be just handing the ball to the RB's. I think we will be a Pro-style offense. My only hope is that we learn one thing to do REALLY well, preferably, power run.

I don't have a problem with the ref on the field making the call, with safety in mind. HOWEVER, the dumb a%@ up in the booth on replay needs to be terminated immediately. There better be something said tomorrow.

What year did Nebraska change from Cornhuskers to Huskers?
NU5XChamps replied to Hayseed's topic in Husker Football
Huskers is just short for Cornhuskers. Just like Bob is short for Robert and DIck is short for Richard. Wait, I don't know why Bob and Dick are short for Robert and Richard. Carry on!!! -
I believe the way they are handling this situation goes to the "Nebraska Way". NU is honoring their part of the deal but making sure he is kept safe from further injury. In the big bad $EC, they probably would have cut him already.

I like this; concise, measurable, and right on target.

Overtime: Iowa Post-game Overreaction
NU5XChamps replied to Thanks_Tom RR's topic in Husker Football
The TV guys were saying it the whole game. The difference between the two teams was the QB play. Iowa's QB didn't make STUPID decisions that cost his team. Ours did and has made them all year.- 118 replies

Things we were told when Riley was hired...
NU5XChamps replied to teachercd's topic in Husker Football
No, its not a bad thing. It props up the "9 win" crowd. Who on our roster right now in 2015 plays in the NFL next year? Any impact players? Nope!! It was the story of the BO Era. He had one or two guys that the whole team relied on and the others just watched. -
Things we were told when Riley was hired...
NU5XChamps replied to teachercd's topic in Husker Football
Agreed, but they aren't here. Other than TO, what coach would have worked for you and your crowd, and when he came in a had same record you guys would be singing the same song. The 9 wins the last couple of years was fools gold. We should have been 7-6 last year or worse. AA saved the team on at least 2 games for sure. -
It looked to me that Gerry was attempting to duck under the receiver. As for what should he have done? Exactly what he did, this is freaking football. We were hurt by the ejection, but it didn't cost us the game. Iowa was better then we were yesterday, plan and simple. 4 Ints and 5 Unsportsmanlike penalties. That cost us the game. Of course, everybody is blaming Riley and the staff. The truth is the players blew this game with boneheaded plays.
