  1. IMO: OU is a great team but not a legit #3 right now. OU’s offensive game plan was not good. They tried to run too much. They were very good in. The pass game. Expected the Huskers to get blown out today. The defense kept us in the game. Huskers special teams are very bad. Culp was good last year but bad this year. Coaches should be working with mind and look at getting a different holder. Our offense is still weak. They cannot play a ball control game with much consistency and help the team (defense). I think the coaches need to study our game videos- OU defense seemed to always be in the right place every play. The plays or the play calling must be showing a “tell” or predictable tendencies. I felt our play calling on 1st down was usually run up the center for little gain. We wind up trying to make 1st downs with only 2nd, 3rd and 4th downs too often. There are too many sideline passes- probably because it’s expected that OL won’t hold up the rush. They need to play downfield ball sending some receivers deep to clear out under. If they put a spy on Martinez, someone should be open. Martinez runs for many yards but I don’t like his decisions on the end of the runs- juking the wrong way, running to the sideline to avoid the hit instead of getting more yards straight ahead, and sliding down a yard short of a 1st down. Our offensive line is not consistent- don’t seem to handle blitzes or stunts well. The OL stills makes too many self inflicted problems.
  2. After seeing this game, I don’t expect to win another game this year. The offensive line is not good enough to establish a solid ruining game, especially short yardage on third downs. Special teams is not good enough and the penalties killing momentum and scores. Every team for the rest of the year will much better than Buffalo and I expect their QBs to equal or better than Van Trease. I am worried that OU will embarrass us with something like a 63-13 game.
  3. If quality is the goal for BIG, how much would they have to pay Notre Dame to join the BIG? the 16th team- KU, FSU, Mizzou, ???
  4. Jurgens has continually hurt the team with bad snaps and yet he still plays. If he is a great blocker, then shift him to playing a guard or tackle. Surely, there is one lineman who can snap the ball! What do the players think when Jurgens continually screws up but still starts? It really tells the players that the coaches don’t demand excellence or enforce standards. I think that was Solich’s downfall too based upon some rumors I heard. Frost needs to really think about what is happening and make some changes soon.
  5. Yes! Few high seniors are good enough to play in the NFL without player development. Our coaches don’t get everything out of the players we have and seem to run off many recruited scholarship players. I think the assistants don’t do an adequate job scouting opponents players and schemes to prep for a game or make adjustments during the game. I don’t think the coaches have done a great job recruiting- 18 or so changing schools and most of the highest ranked high school players going elsewhere. If you can’t get the big guys, you have to rely on getting good and developing stars in your system.
  6. I remember Bill Jennings stating the reason for another loss was that they just don’t have the players. Devaney came the next year with some new assistants and Jennings players- the result was a 9 win season and the first bowl game a decade. Plus, many of those players went on to be NFL stars. Solich finally made changes with n 9 win seasons and continued 9 win seasons with an embarrassing lost- just be fired without sufficient time to make the changes work. Callahan, Riley, and Frost were brought in to change the program’s course but failed. Peking did well but brought other problems with him. Overall, we have made bad choices for coaches. We don’t have stability in coaches but we also continue with a few coaches that are not getting the job done. The fans want to throw the buns out if they don’t win championships in the first few years. There were calls for Osborne to be fired since it took him many years to get a top 10 program running. He finally made some changes in players, schemes and coaching to build one of the best programs in football. It lasted until Solich let up on the standards and some assistants left. I believe the loss of the Frosh football program and the Big12 academic restrictions on Nebraska really hurt. This was the time when we departed from option football and power running recruiting to a passing program. WE NEED TOME TO BUILD A SOLID FOUNDATION BY SMALL STEPS INSTEAD CLEANING OUT THE. HOUSE EVERY 3-4 YEARS. Moos and Osborne should be mentoring Frost about being a head coach using results and stats to make decisions instead basing it friendships or being the nice guy. If some assistants are not producing, they must be pressured or replaced.
  7. Didn’t Frost know the I formation under Osborne? The usual knock on the I is that it doesn’t foster a passing attack like the spread does. However, I remember that Rathman and Craig set running AND receiving records playing for 49’ers under the west coast guru Bill Walsh. Biggest changes needed- coaching! They need to teach basics and develop the players as well as devise schemes and scout opponents and high school players. I remember Vince Lombardi saying we only have a few plays but we practice and run those plays better than anyone else. I don’t think our assistants teach, have high enough standards or demand performance from the players.
  8. Disagree. They are usually easy to clean with a high pressure hose. If you worried about pedophiles- stay home with your mother. Remember you are only visiting not living there. Separate toilets or urinals will take up too much wall space- privacy screens have space requirements with some ADA requirements.
  9. I expect that we could lose the next three games- Minnesota being the only possible win. With our record, the 16 scholarship walk-offs, and the coaching situation, I cannot see that our recruiting will go well.
  10. We all wanted Frank to make changes after the humiliating in California for the championship. Frank made changes and we only gave him one year. I think he might have got the rebuild done but AD Peterson was the wrong idiot in the AD job. Frank has gone on in his 16 seasons at Ohio found a respectable job. I don’t remember the year but we fired Craig Bohl (DC) and he went on to do a remarkable job at North Dakota Stare and a good job at Wyoming. I think the angry fans were chasing National Championships each and demanded the coaches head if he get the big one. we need to get the program rebuilt and stabilized. Rapid coaching changes are not good. I had hoped that Frost and his assistants would have tapped the Florida talent but seems to be lacking. I read that some 16 highly recruited scholarship players have left Nebraska including 3 or 4 stars. It appears that Frost and his coaches recruit mediocre people or recruit people they can’t use in their system. Added to the problems of some play calling, spotty clock management, miscues on plays and problems getting the right people on the field for the called play, etc.- the coaches don’t seem to be earning their salaries. Scott’s monotone comments on Channel 10 Spoerts Show don’t engender confidence. Moos and Osborne should get involved in some general mentoring and insisting on some improvements with coaches and players. Though I think the Coaches are the big problem. The players should show more polish, knowledge and techniques now. They need to develop and train the players instead expect the “product” (Callahan’s term for skilled players) to show up ready to be all-American stars. Perhaps teach the punt team to cover the punter until he actually punts the ball? I don’t like the Offense- seem to abandon the run and then go to short passing too often and soon. The Defense just gives up too much yardage. If the line does not perform now, the coaches not worked with them enough- probably not enough contact scrimmages and drills. last week, someone defended giving up 501 yards, citing it was 5.5 yd average in the bend but don’t break mode. That really says the opponents get a first diwn every two plays unless they give a turnover or a 15 yard penalty.
  11. I remember when the south stadium was a grassy slope called the Knothole section and the north end was just the old field house. Memorial stadium has had so many revisions that it is hodge lodge of designs. I think they should just build an entirely new domed stadium out on the old fairgrounds. Maybe renovate the current Memorial stadium to other uses like enclosed track & field, gymnastics, classrooms/offices, etc. Maybe build a computer controlled shuttle train between the campuses and parking lots similar to large airports. BTW- What is an Innovation Campus and where is it?
  12. Troughs are best- more people can urinate in a given period, cost less and easier to clean.
  13. I don’t believe a good defense gives up 501 yards. The bend but don’t break nonsense is better than losing big. The offense really did not outscore Penn State- the defense won it. I think I remember Devaney saying a defense should not give up more than 200 yards- yah, I know the spread proponents don’t believe they can be stopped for less than 200. We need to have offensive lineman like the old days when we were known as Lineman University. I saw a stat on Saturday listing the top 5 teams that had about 20 O linemen in the NFL. We are not near that level of excellence. We need a defense that gets stops quickly so our offense can consistently eat up 7-8 minutes and score at least a FG. I think the defense showed some improvement as well as the defense Saturday. But there are some real rough areas that should be seen at this stage of the season- high snaps, missed assignments, taking too long to get players in the field, poor clock management at times, backfield players running into each other, suspect play calling, etc. I hate to see Robinson running inside without fullback blocking ahead.
  14. Losing 14 scholarship players is a serious defect. The coaches apparently recruited players they didn’t like, lacked the leadership to inspire the players to commit, or drove them away because they coaches change their concept too much or demonstrate incompetence or insincerity for the players future. The coaches lost 3 or 4 defensive backs early in the COBID19 season delay- they went back to the SEC where played did not delay the season start. It’s been three years of Frost’s recruits and we are not near fielding a strong competitive team. I don’t the defense is good and don’t like the scheme. The DC and assistants should be replaced and the offensive assistants should be evaluated. Frost had better consider new assistants or the AD will replace all of them. I hate to think of a revolving door in the Football Dept but they must achieve some success or get fired. We fired Solich for not winning the big game despite 9 win seasons. We fired Pelion with good winning seasons for losing the big game and his big mouth and a crazy brother. In the mean time we hired and fired Callahan and Riley- both destroyers of traditions and good seasons. We also fired Craig Bohl who went on to success at North Dakota State and Wyoming. Solich has well at Ohio in 16 seasons- not up to Devaney or Osborne standards but better than we got at UNL.
  15. I watched UCF a lot in the year before Frost hired. You are wrong to suggest Milton was the reason they went undefeated. The team had speed on both sides of the ball, great receivers, and an aggressive defense with sure tacklers and pass protection. The Huskers don’t show much of the good traits.
  16. 1. Empty stadiums with fake fan noise is not football. 2. Targeting fowls are pure CYA crap. Many are questionable when you consider both the defender and carrier may be at full speed, attempting to evade the tackle, can’t control their bodies when their center of gravity is well beyond their feet, intimidation is part of the game, many will duck their head before a hit as a reflex action, and helmets and pads are worn for a purpose. Why is a tackler hitting with his crown called targeting but a runner leading with his crown not targeting- the injury potential is the same. 3. I have never liked our three man line defense and continue to dislike it now. Huskers need another Defensive Coordinator. Did not do well with pass rush and our DBs are not aggressive. 4. The Huskers are headed for another losing season. Frost should be worried. 5. I think our offense is weak. They can’t eat up the clock controlling the ball for long drives and end up with a TD. 6. Their scouts and film study were much more effective than ours. Saw one play where our QB did some faking feinting left and the went right- our lead blockers went right at the snap with the defenders following our blockers. The defenders had us outnumbered at the LOS before our ball carrier got there. 7. Thought the offensive line was good for runs between the tackles but our blocking schemes don’t seem to ever take out the linebackers.
  17. I had two tickets from the south stadium expansion. I had to “donate” $500 per ticket just to be able to pay for the actual tickets. As I recall, the donations were made to the Alumni Association” but collected by the Athletic Dept. Don’t know what the new system is now. I would guess that you get no tickets without the donations.
  18. Just blaming Bo and Beck for not recruiting Burrow is not correct. Scott Frost turned down Burrow’s father inquiry before zJoe went to LSU from OSU. I think the comments that Burrow would not have done well if he had come to NU because our O linemen and receivers are inferior to LSU’s miss the mark too. The real issue is who and how are players evaluated and recruited by the Husker coaches. It’s not just Burrow being missed. It’s also all of the other players that were evaluated by this same process and coaches. We have had several sets of coaches recruiting and we have fallen short of being able to compete in the Bid 10 West let alone the entire Big 10 and the rest of the nation. Joe Burrow did not just develop his skills two years ago in Lafayette. Apparently Urban Meyer missed it too. But why didn’t the coaches in Lincoln see it? How many really good offensive linemen have we missed? I don’t discount the need for good coaches to develop and improve players BUT WE HAVE NOT DONE VERY WELL IN THAT AREA EITHER.
  19. Big concern for me- defense was good except for two plays and special teams was really bad on that run back. Can’t the coaches play defenders with sufficient speed to catch the breakaway runners?
  20. I made a comment once that we should have had Burrow when left Ohio State since he was a legacy. A response said we never had a chance with him. During the game, the announcers said that Burrow asked to come to Lincoln but was turned down by Frost. The announcers said Frost promised AM that he would not recruit any more QBs. We potentially missed a Heisman QB. Who evaluates the talent in Lincoln? Are they recruiting for the benefit of a player or for the team?
  21. I don’t think AM has been very effective since his first year and especially after the injury. His passing lacks accuracy many times- not accurate and often forcing the receiver to break his stride. against Iowa, he threw a pick deep that would have been a TD if thrown 1 second sooner. He missed another deep one too high that would have bee a TD also. I heard a Sipple video where it was stated there 30 short passes where 18 were for loss or little gain. I think the lack of deep passing may be that our O line usually fails sufficient time. AM may also lack confidence to throw deep, hesitates to run, and dumps off passes when rattled. AM also does not show speed like he did in his first year. He doesn’t cut well and has no break away speed now- nagging injury? Frost needs to give all a chance but the starter needs to perform runs and passes not just tailored packages. Also, Frost needs to have someone to call the plays but ban throwing into the flats. They just wasted plays. Football is a north-south game including receivers.
  22. No. It’s time for thread about us winning the west division, at least nine wins, appearing in the top 25, and enjoying Runzas in the stadium next year.
  23. Frost did not manage the clock well late in the 4th Qtr or do a great job of calling most of the game. Adrian Martinez is not getting it done. He is hesitant to decide to pass and hesitant to decide to run. When he runs, he does show speed. His passing is not accurate. For the drive resulting in a pick at the 2, he decided to throw late and through into a pick. If he had thrown a second earlier, it would have been a TD. Later, when he a shot deep over the center, he overthrew a possible TD. We did not miss Maurice other possibly his speed. Both Mills and Mazour did enough to have won. Our offensive line did better but not good enough. Epenesa came through like he was unblocked many times. The coaches did not seem to make changes. Frost and the OC called that flat swing pass for little gain all season long. I hope that I never have to that loser play called again. Matt Mullen commented on that stupid play several times. The defense played its best game today. I think the DC got burned early but made the corrections when needed. I still think the 3-4 is crap. They may still call it 3-4, but they played better with tweaks that made it like a 4-3 or 5-2 with LBs aggressively playing the run. Worst observation, Frost made some bonehead calls at 3rd and 8 at the end. It looked like he was satisfied with an overtime instead of playing for win with at least a field goal at the end. The announcers felt the same. I don’t want Frost fired but I am not happy to hear him say again we have a few pieces to work on.
  24. I still believe the 3/4 is inferior. The teams that you as successful recruit better and coach better than majority of 130 teams in the FCS. Those team run a modified 3-4 with LBs on the line. If you don’t have the talent, you will give up 400-500 yards per game. We need to control the LOS first. If you are going to use players with modified assignments, I think it would be better do with LBs and defensive backs. You can get more dbacks for pas defense or play more defenders up to defense power running or wide sweeps. Urlacher was a great college defensive back and later All-Pro middle linebacker. Pelini did something similar with his peso defense and the Huskers used a monster man defense before that. I believe we don’t have the talent now to play like Alabama’s 3-4. We need to use a defense better suited for the people who will play for us in the next few years. If we continue to give up over 400 yards per game, we will never be a top 20 team.
  25. I think I heard an announcer tell Christ that they got 580 yards(?). I believe we gave up 450 yards or so per game over the past few months. With a 4-9 season, we have given up more yards than we should to be a winner. There is a lot wrong on the defense. I have never liked the 3-4 defense scheme and I never will. I don’t care how many other teams use it or the argument that it’s really a 4-3 but one guy doesn’t line in a 3 point stance. The 3-4 looks perfect on the chalk board has not done well on the field. I don’t buy into the idea that we will recruit eleven of the super human 5 star players to make the 3-4 work. The scheme is inherently weak in my opinion. A defense or defensive scheme that gives up the yardage that we do or lacks the ability to safeguard a lead- is not a defense. A bend but don’t break defense was tried here before without much success. What did Osborne say about Callahan’s defense? Something about you don’t win many games by outscoring the opponent when you give up 30-40 points- it’s not a basketball game??? I cannot see us being good again until we can reliably hold the opponents to under 200 yards per game. We need Special teams that can win the field position game and keep the opponent from scoring on kicks- especially after we just scored to take the lead.
