  1. I agree with you on the ML piece, I was just going off what was listed by teach. I wonder if there is some built in inflation on Troy on the off chance that Troy gets a new head coach.
  2. I would be inclined to take the points against MSU and Iowa and lay the points against Purdue and Minny.
  3. You're right, the situation at Nebraska is a lot worse than what he inherited @ UCF.
  4. I think we're going to look back in 15 years at the ADSE/HCMR era and wonder aloud, "Man, what the heck was this all about?!?" Eichorst is such a conundrum for me because on one hand he did some really good things on a macro level for NU. Eichorst was a big driver on this latest set of NCAA recruiting rules which really benefited Nebraska and from all accounts he really worked hard at improving the student-athlete experience. However, his desire to insulate himself from his coaches with layers of staff and protocols is a really crappy way to run a business. I think Eichorst could be a really good associate AD for someone as he's shown an ability to think outside the box on things. If I were looking to hire an AD for a P5 school, it would be difficult to convince myself to hire Eichorst, I just don't think he's cut out to be a leader on the big stage.
  5. I just saw the schedule for the bowl games and man....there are a whole lotta dog matchups. Iowa against BC will probably have the lowest total on the slate lol. I wouldn't be surprised if the total drops below 40. Memphis/ISU should be a pretty good game and might be the highest scoring game of the season.
  6. If anyone caught Joel Klatt today I liked his theory for an 8 team playoff (which for the record isn't happening anytime soon). To summarize from his twitter: Thoughts on CFB structure 1) Get rid of divisions in every conference 2) Top 2 seeds from each conference play in Conf. Champ game 3) To go to the @CFBPlayoff you HAVE to win your conference - we balance schedules, retain regular season importance I'm not too bummed out as there really wasn't a great choice for #4 and a nearly full strength Alabama team probably has the best shot to win the title out of tOSU, Bama and Wisconsin. Wisconsin would've gotten brutalized against Clemson and frankly if JT Barrett played even an above average game Ohio State should've won that game by 17. I do agree that the ACC and SEC need to start playing 9 conference games. That is a total joke. As for the Mercer thing, it's a bad look but none of the other teams really played anyone that week either. OU played Kansas and Ohio State played Illinois. Still, P5 teams shouldn't be playing FCS teams. I'd also like to see Alabama play a big time OOC opponent somewhere other than a location within the SEC footprint but that's just me nitpicking.
  7. Not if your technique is terrible and you don't understand leverage.
  8. Haha even better than Owa? I'm not going to lie, when I read his name all I think about is the hook to Nelly's E.I.
  9. Ah, my bad. Definitely a Freudian slip on my end. Thanks for the correction. Very true. Uecker isn't going to be around forever.
  10. This. I wonder if they'll take a shot @ Lane Grindle as well. I know Handley did some Husker baseball last year and was trading innings w/ Kent. +1 to you sir.
  11. I have zero issue with Frost setting expectations with the media from the jump. Frost strikes me as a guy who forgives but never forgets and remembers the crap the media (some of whom are still around) threw at him when he was in college. The honeymoon period the media enjoyed when MR was at the helm is over.
  12. Last year's salary pool was around $4mm https://www.landof10.com/nebraska/nebraska-2017-football-staff-highest-paid-program-history-coaches-mike-riley
  13. I think in a perfect world Frost would bring in a JUCO and a freshman and let the competition sort itself out. I think there is a decent chance that 2 QBs transfer out and that would leave things pretty thin depth wise. Now, if I'm a JUCO and say Martinez commits do I really want to transfer to Nebraska or would I prefer to transfer somewhere that I 'know' I'll be given a chance to start. As Mav and others have pointed out, there can only be one QB on the field at a time. The good news is there should be no shortage of guys that want to play in Frost's system.
  14. The fact that Nebraska hasn't tapped into the IWCC pipeline to this point is a borderline travesty. It looks like this staff is at least pursuing some JUCOs.
  15. We're simply going to have to agree to disagree here and that's fine.
  16. No, Riley was a mediocre coach that proved to be exactly that. I'm saying the upperclassmen, the guys you absolutely need to lead the team and drive the change, didn't exactly do HCMR any favors.
  17. I've always contended that you want to be the guy after the guy and coaches seem to run in groups of 3. TO obviously blows my theory out of the water following Devaney but you could argue that if TO were coaching in today's climate he doesn't last long enough to win his MNCs in the 90s but that's a discussion for another day. So here we go... TO=GOAT Solich=On the surface comes into a good spot, actually not the case. Solich gets the dead cat bounce the first few years with TOs guys and things seem to be going ok until Colorado 2001 where Husker Nation experiences the mother of all band aid rip offs. I don't think I'm alone where I remember exactly where I was when the game happened and the feeling of hopelessness that came over me as Chris Brown & Co ran rough shed over Nebraska. Solich gets fired by Stevie P. Solich was doomed from the start because he was TO's handpicked guy and rightly or wrongly people were going to expect TO level results. Frank=Guy Callahan=Comes out with his WCO supposed wizardry and gaudy recruiting rankings. Tries to overall things and it obviously doesn't work. However, he was SP's guy so he was going to get a ton of cover as long as SP was there. Cally refused to hire a competent DC that could've saved his job but still recruits at a fairly decent level. Ultimately gets wacked when TO takes over @ AD. I felt Cally walked into a better spot than Solich because people thought the program 'bottomed out' under Solich and there was some distance between Cally and TO...oh how wrong we were. Cally=Guy after the guy Pelini=Bo does a masterful job of using Cally's guys on the defensive side of the ball and arguably peaks in 2009 when he assembles the best defense since the mid 90s wrecking crews but is undone due to a lack of an offensive identity and unwillingness to make changes to his coaching staff even though it is shown that his guys are out of their depth. Eventually, Bo shows what his ceiling is and the Ginger Assassin lets him go. Bo=reset of group of 3. HCMR=We've covered Mike's tenure at length here so I don't need to add anything. Of all the coaches listed, he probably was in the worst spot of all the coaches due to the polarizing nature of Pelini. HCMR=guy HCSF?=We shall see. Regardless, Frost is coming in as the guy after the guy and is coming into a pretty good spot IMO.
  18. Ahh, yes, yes I do. I didn't scroll up far enough. Thanks for the correction.
  19. @HuskerInLostWages has won this thread. @seaofred92 if you go with what he proposed I'd say chances are better than 50/50 you get on Gameday.
  20. Lots of good names being thrown around. Wilson makes a ton of sense for obvious reasons. Locksley looks like a promising QB as well. Gotta like that he's a coaches kid so no worries about him putting in the work one would think. It would be nice to start building a little bit of a pipeline from IWCC. It seems a little dumb to not take advantage of a powerhouse JC that is a stones throw away.
  21. http://www.1620thezone.com/UnsportsmanlikeConductPodcasts.aspx Vrzal starts drooling in Seg 9.
  22. Vrzal needs to quit whining. It'll be interesting if Frost getting hired finally breaks the hero worship the fan base has over ex-Huskers being largely infallible and people start pushing back against guys like Benning, Peter, Vrzal, etc. I certainly get the point @ krc1995 about these guys all being competitive but it just comes across so incredibly petty. Vrzal should redirect his energy towards improving his god awful radio show. Husker Hangover is literally the worst thing 1620 puts on the air.
  23. I'm guessing you're referring to the buyout portion of the contract correct? It would be interesting if a clause like that ever got put into a contract like that (for the record I don't think it happens anytime soon as it would be a big competitive disadvantage). To me a logical way agents would counter said language would be to insist on a healthy bonus for every game a coach won (like $250k+). At the same time you need the huge buyout to protect yourself from getting your coach snatched. It's an interesting hypothetical. I wonder how big a win bonus you would need to offer to get a coach to sign off on something like that.
  24. Someone needs to alert @84HuskerLaw there is a new sheriff in town. EDIT: OMG WHAT EPIC TIMING ON MY PART. ALL YOUR +1s BELONG TO ME
