  1. 30 minutes is not what I would consider a "commute". That's simply the small amount of time it takes to drive to work. Heck it usually takes me about 25 minutes to drive across town to my job. I would probably lean towards living in the bigger city but, either way, you're not far from the other. Don't see how you can really go wrong.
  2. I would like to see proof of that. You're never going to get "proof" of something like that, hope not anyway, that wouldn't be good. These things aren't advertised. I would like to see proof of that. I can't remember any that NU has bought...but there have really only been a few that I have ever heard that have been bought...like the SMU team and that cat that started at Bama and ended up at Memphis but I can't remember his name...Oh...and the entire team in the movie Blue Chips... Cash changes hands in recruiting quite a bit, especially down south where you have to do it to compete with everybody else. The numbers aren't usually big like Cam Newton's recruitment, but it's enough to get in the ballgame. Here's an interesting article from a couple years ago http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-football-bag-man-interview Until I see proof, its just a baseless allegation. I thought we were adults here. Believe what you need to believe to make college sports (Nebraska) palatable for you, it's just entertainment after all. No Nebraska player has ever taken money. (puts head back into sand) I would be surprised if it hasn't happened in every big time program. I don't think anyone here is naive. But, as you said, we're all adults here. I would assume that should mean that anyone who makes such a claim is responsible for providing the proof to back it up. You can't just state it has happened here as a fact and then not provide proof. That's not how "facts" work.
  3. Yeah, you really aren't getting it. It's not at all moral relativism, by the way. I don't think that word or phrase means what you think it means. That is exactly what moral relativism is. Thanks for playing though.
  4. Is speeding cheating, since it's against the law? Is murder cheating, since it's against the law? Is paying recruits cheating, since it is against the rules? What kind of moral relativism game are you trying play here? Yes, some infractions are worse than others. Murder is worse than speeding, etc. But cheating is still cheating, whether or not you get caught. I guess I don't get any message that claims otherwise.
  5. How refreshing to know that someone with such high morals and scruples is teaching the youth of today. Please find another line of work. So, is it okay for your students to cheat as long as they don't get caught? Don't be all that surprised. This is coming from someone who has admitted to having sex with women without consent and treating it like a joke. I am not surprised. I've just sort of finally had enough of the crap messages he spews. Boozing, womanizing, cheating...... I would hope teachers and coaches strive to be better than this. At the very least, it would be nice if they didn't boast and brag about their shortcomings in the morals area. I guess I expect a lot more from those who should be helping to form young lives. But, like always, there are all kinds. Don't hurt yourself falling off that horse you are on. Just sayin' Doing and believing the right and moral thing does not require getting on a high horse. If a person doesn't want to face the flack of admitting their own lack of morals, they probably shouldn't openly brag about such things. Cheating is wrong. Period. If you believe otherwise, you are wrong. Simple concept. Now if we want to discuss how some of the ncaa rules are ludicrous, then we can have that discussion. But, saying that cheating, as long as you don't get caught, is a good message to promote........I'm dumbfounded. How do you defend that message?
  6. How refreshing to know that someone with such high morals and scruples is teaching the youth of today. Please find another line of work. So, is it okay for your students to cheat as long as they don't get caught? I thought parents were who their kids looked to for their moral compass. Hmmm, guess not.Nice excuse for your own lack of morals.Yes, parents should be the primary force for shaping their kids morals but, as a teacher or coach, you also help shape their opinions and feelings on things. Those kids are influenced by your feelings and thoughts whether you or I like it or not. If you are passing on the message that cheating is okay as long as you don't get caught, then you should not be teaching/coaching kids in any capacity. If that truth hurts or hits too close to home, it might be time for you to look in the mirror and reevaluate why you are teaching or coaching youth. It really has nothing at all to do with the parents or anyone other than yourself. I'll do my job as a parent. The question is, will you be helping me reinforce the good messages or will you actively be working against me? Got it...teachers should think just like the parents...Also, John Wooden cheated like crazy How convenient. You can now pick the worst parents for examples and feel good about yourself because your not THAT bad. And of course, ignore the message of the quote but rather impune the messenger. Just what I would expect from a cheater.

  11. I agree the message this sends is even more important than the specific coaching change. Hopefully this is an indication that the staff will be held accountable and, when they fall short of expectations, they will be replaced. It would seem to signal that MR understands we need to shoot for and hit a higher level. Maybe it doesn't mean all that much but I'm going to keep my hopes up that it does until proven wrong.
  12. I don't follow recruiting closely but, from the relatively poor job we did filling D line positions this year, I would like to think that Riley is holding his position coaches responsible for everything in their area. So it would make some sense to cut lose a guy who was obviously underperforming on the recruiting trail and also arguably struggling with the progress of our Dline. That may not be it at all but it makes me feel good about where things may be headed. Had too many years where glaring problems were not addressed. Maybe this shows Riley will make the tough decisions.
  13. I think that's a great idea, now that the rules have changed and the team can pick up the cost. Nebraska would be crazy to not do this also. Get out of the nasty weather for a week, do some team building, and get some valuable exposure to potential recruits.
  14. Quick thought, who is it going to hurt more to not be able to exchange/share research with Stanford? This handful of Iowa state universities or the Harvard of the west coast? Iowegans.....*facepalm
  15. Maybe you could compose a better one. I suppose you and your dad went to private schools, right? For consistency's sake.... I could compose an extremely better one but I'm not going to the effort for your sake. I have no idea what your point about private schools is. Probably makes about as much sense as your bucket of chicken BS. BTW, I don't deny that we are already knee deep in socialism in this country, if that's what you're getting at. Not liking it and realizing it exists are not mutually exclusive conditions. Happy trolling. I don't think you can, but whatEVA... Uh, who's trolling who's thread? Anyway, I feel your pain, honest, it must be hard on you, I know you were whining the other day about your trials and tribulations as a small biz owner. "So many bosses" and what not. Hey, I've got a suggestion for you. Maybe for the next month or so you could try responding on topic, with comments that make sense. You know, just see how that approach works for awhile. Or, just continue with how you've been doing. Doesn't really matter to me, I just hate to see people proceed in a manner that will make others want to discount everything that person says.
  16. I don't know about all this other stuff but Husker Psycho did an excellent job picking his user name. Amirite?
  17. I think I'll go back to only paying cursory attention to recruiting. My heart can't take the ups and downs. It's a wilder ride than a gameday game thread. Even the experts are off their rockers. One kid tweets his buddy and the next thing ya know everyone is convinced that kids going the same place as his buddy, but no, he signs with CU instead. It's all a little too crazy for me.

It's really fun to follow if you don't get caught up in the highs and lows and just enjoy the ride.

It's ok JJ. I am in the same boat as you and it's a lot less stress-inducing. I love the board and the quick updates we get now from various sources and social media, but frankly, sometimes the amount we comb through kid's social media for recruiting news creeps me out a bit.

      Is it blue NUance?

  19. Extremely poor analogy, metaphor, whatever you want to call it. Misses the point almost entirely. I'll take care of my real brother......however the metaphorical brothers might be on their own. As my dad used to say "I didn't take him to raise and he's no tax deduction of mine"

  21. Interesting list but I think the 2 lists that would really tell the story of our last ten years of recruiting would be the Next 20 (#21 thru #40 top recruits) and the top 20 busts that never really contributed or never saw the field as a Husker. I could be wrong but I'm guessing the list falls off very significantly after this top 20.
  22. Or people need to learn to create income without a job and actually run their own life. Elaborate. Run their own business. There are tons of different possibilities, such as franchises, new start-ups, or home based businesses. All three can have relatively low overhead which means relatively low risk, and in the case of home based businesses, extremely high reward if done correctly. With those, you just have to be willing to withstand a temporary loss of esteem from some people around you. Key word temporary. That's not "creating income without having a job." Running a business is the business owner's job. Making $ playing poker for a living is a job. Studying stock market behavior and making $ that way is a job. Point well taken. That's why I elaborated mostly on the home based business option. That's really the best and simplest way to generate income without taking up so much time. You build a team once and have the ability to be paid off of it for the rest of your life. It's called residual income, which we don't learn about in school (it's a shame really). Obviously, there are people that don't like them for whatever silly reason, but insurance works exactly the same way. Real estate as well. Good point. I had not considered the residual income types such as Amway or Mary Kay, just to name a couple. Once you get to a certain level and get people selling beneath you, you really wouldn't have to be actively involved yourself to keep earning. I guess that would qualify as income without a job.

Running a business is the business owner's job. Making $ playing poker for a living is a job. Studying stock market behavior and making $ that way is a job. I would have to mostly agree with this. Running a business is a job (trust me- I know) and a person could quit or sell their business just like an employee could quit their job. Both situations there would be a loss of income. One of the biggest misconceptions I've seen about running a business is that the owner doesn't have a "boss" and can basically do whatever the hell they want. False. My customers are my boss and I have to do the tasks that keep my business making money. I suppose a person could own a company and not be actively involved in it's operation. i.e. pay somebody else to manage the business for them. I would consider that an investment and, in that case, not having to actively do anything for the income. The only way to make money without being actively involved in the "making" would be through investments. Thus why I originally said unless a person is "independently wealthy".
