My neighbor lady, who is 83, was getting stuff out to mow and i walked over to ask if she would like me to help her. Her response: Oh honey, im not in a wheelchair yet. I can take care of it.
She is an awesome woman. Always love talking to her.

@huKSer I know it's funny when they want to average them or add them together. They may not know how to get the right answer, but a little common sense would tell them those are wrong.

OWH has some talented writers, but it still cracks me up watching them slobber all over each other on Twitter anytime one of them wins an award.

Been a bad week in Greeley high schools. 3 HS students, 1 from each of the 3 largest schools, have committed suicide within 4 or 5 days of each other. We knew one of the kids. Pretty sad and concerning.

I deal with high school students a lot. Depression is a big thing, as is bullying. But, one of the biggest things I've noticed is many of them don't value life like many older people do. Many of them don't have hopes or dreams or expectations. They don't see a future where things could be better than what they have in high school. I won't pretend to know the reasons why (I have theories, but I don't want to get into that here) but I do think it needs to be addressed - it's a cultural and generational thing - not just isolated cases.

To the surprise of almost no one, Moos said Miles will be back next year. I have to think it's tourney or bust next year for sure.

Touché
Here is what Moos said today:
Quote"The stability of the program is really important. The last time that Tim had a real good year, we didn't follow it up with another one," Moos said. "It's tougher to stay there than it is to get there many times, and I'm fully aware of that. So I'm really interested in what (Miles) thinks about the stability of the program and what I can do to help him in that regard."

Mack to L'Ville...
-
From ESPN:
QuoteMack, 48, played his college ball at Evansville and Xavier.
His wife, Christi, grew up and still has family in Louisville.
He was making $1.67 million at Xavier, going to get $4 million at Louisville, but on top of that his wife might be happier too.

Maybe winning the NIT would do it, but the only other way I see the NIT being acceptable is if there are some injuries to key players and the team still makes it to the postseason. Not transfers, injuries. Transfers from key players this year speak to the culture and attitude of the team and Miles needs to leave.

I predict one more upset with the rest of the games playing out according to seeding.

If one were to start a "Trump vs Biden Superfight" thread, would that go in Other Sports or Politics & Religion?

Why does the NCAA only allow schools to give 11.7 scholarships for baseball? That seems really low.
-
Quote
Why are there fractions? Most NCAA varsity programs are equivalency sports which means awards can be split into partial scholarships in any proportion up to the maximum allowed. For example, an NCAA Division I school can allocate a number of partial athletic scholarships equivalent to 11.7 full scholarships in any proportion among, say, 25 baseball players.
Full scholarships are relatively rare in equivalency sports. An additional caveat is that there is a top limit of the number of athletes that can be awarded even a partial scholarship in an equivalency sport - this limit is referred to as the maximum number of counters. For NCAA I baseball teams the maximum number of counters allowed is 27.

My thinking:
You have 8 position players, a DH, 3 weekend starters, 3 bullpen pitchers = 15 players
That doesn't include starters for mid week games, extra relief pitchers, or any backup players.
I just think 11.7 is really low. I understand equivalency scholarships, I just don't know how they get that number. You're obviously having to rely a lot on walkons and a lot of guys aren't going to get more than half of their school paid for. Maybe it's because all of the best players go the MLB route?
I also get that baseball maybe isn't a big revenue sport for most schools, but really most college sports outside of football and occasionally basketball (and at NE, volleyball) don't turn a profit and they still have plenty of scholarships.
I also understand Title IX and the reasoning, but I don't know if that is what is in play here. The total NCAA scholarship allotment allowed for men's sports totals 296.9, for women's sports it totals 259.1 so it's not like it's exactly even anyway.

Football, Men's & Women's Basketball, Women's Volleyball, Women's Gymnastics, and Women's Tennis are all "head count" sports, which means any scholarship is a full scholarship. All the other sports are scholarship equivalency sports, so partial scholarships are awarded.
I just don't understand the reasoning, I'm sure there is one, because it's the NCAA...

I'll be so happy when this NCAA nonsense is over and I can watch baseball again.
-
I put the NCAA tournament 2nd behind college football bowl season for non-Husker sporting events that I like to watch. The Super Bowl is far behind both for me. That said, I actually really like baseball season and having 5 or 6 games per week. I don't get to watch that many, but I like following my teams.
I actually enjoy listening to baseball on the radio while I'm working. My wife likes when I listen to baseball on the radio while we're driving because that's the only time she can fall asleep in a car.

Is there anyone else who (still) doesn't care for Twitter?
-
I use Twitter to get news quickly about my teams, but I don't tweet.
Facebook on the other hand has turned into a giant pile of garbage with people trying to sell crap using pyramid schemes and other people ranting about the downfall of humanity instead of actually doing anything about it. They quickly get unfriended. I only keep Facebook in order to get information out quickly to our players and other school groups.

What’s going on with Masry Mapieu? Local reports have him signing with The Ragin Cajun’s today.
-
It's possible that he hasn't qualified for either school, but ULL has an open scholarship right now and took a chance on him.
Nebraska didn't want to risk wasting a scholarship if he fails to qualify, as they would have had to tell one of the recent recruits that they didn't have room for them in order to take his LOI.
