  1. Did you know that three games into 2008? Western Michigan W San Jose State W New Mexico State W Probably feeling pretty good about now at 3-0 .....eh??? I would bet that this year's team with these coaches would be 3-0 after that. The next three games were: Virginia Tech L Missouri L Texas Tech L Now....sitting in 2008 at 3-3, did you feel any better than we are now at 2-2? If so, why? In those three losses in 2008, we had given up over 41 points and 420 yards per game. Were you feeling like we had HUGE amounts of talent after that? Actually I feel better right now than I did then and I felt pretty good then - expecially after the Missouri game. I absolutely loved what I saw defensively in that game even though the score didn't reflect it. You could see what could be coming evetually. Pelini's problem wasn't scheme. Contrary to popular belief around here the scheme was pretty great. The problem with it was that it requires good onfield comunication of offensive personel groups and precice understanding of what adjustments to do against that grouping. That requires coaches that not only understand the system but know it well enough to teach it easily.. When we had Bo, Carl and Marvin we had that.. once we lost Carl and Marvin and Bo started focusing more on overall team than defense we had a revolving door of assistants that barely got a good enough understanding of the entire concept to teach it well before poof they were gone and the process started all over with a new guy. I also really like where we are headed offensively under Riley. Pass game is solid and I absolutely love some of our running game play concepts we've run thus far under this staff and think we will have a very good run game soon even if it may not look like it numbers wise yet. That kickout counter we run with the TE is a thing of beauty. And as long as our key staff stay in place it will only get better. This isn't Billy C and his 400 play playbook. This is much more of a do a few things extremely well and be able to do them out of multiple looks style of system. The longer these guys practice it the better it's going to be. Where I am more excited now than I was then is that I like our D better now under Banker than I liked our offense under Watson. Mostly because I think Banker is a better coach than Watson with a more flexible system and once guys start getting their leverages right and stop biting on simple fakes our defense will be nearly as good in this conference as Bo's was in the B12. None of that changes the fact that an automatic kicker, a lockdown corner and a defensive lineman with great speed and the ability to not just eat double teams but dominate regardless of them wouldn't completely change this team and it would do it faster than Bo's scheme allowed. Also fwiw, imo you give either Bo or Riley either of these teams with the 2008 schedule and no matter the combo you use you get a 3-3 record six games in. The difference in all of this? I can pretty much guarantee that if you give Riley last years team with last years schedule 7 years into his time here he sure as hell does better than 9-4. Pelini is a really good coach but an absolutely horrible manager.. Riley is a good coach but a far, far better manager. (and Langsdorf's mind is about as good offensively as Pelini's is defensively) I'll take the 2nd every day over the first if it's a choice between the two. My expectation is that Riley does well enough that eventually when we make our next hire we get both.
  2. Suh, Prince, Henery. Those three are better than anyone playing right now. You give Pelini and the 08' team this years schedule and take those 3 guys away and we're 1-2. Give Riley exactly what he has plus those three guys and we're 3-0.
  3. You are looking at the wrong rankings. The overall ranking only makes sense once classes start filling up and commitment numbers even out. Until then the average ranking colymn is more accurate We're 29th right now behind OSU, PSU, MSU and UM. We probably stay at 5th in the Big Ten this year but likely end up with an overall ranking around 23rd. Not where we need to be but Riley is in on guys way before Bo was getting in on them for future classes.
  4. Please for the love of god, all you guys going to the game buy some candycanes and hold em up during Miami's entrance. Thank you.
  5. Every single SEC team except Vandy got at least one top 25 vote in the coaches poll. Absolutely pathetic.
  6. Because half our wideouts missed time during fall camp and need every live rep they can get in the new offense before next week and beyond?
  7. Don't know what they showed on tv but there were 4 or 5 times a BYU defender went straight for the knees away from or after the play. They also really liked to hit guys 3 yards out of bounds.
  8. You don't sound like an O street or steakhouse crowd unless I'm wrong so Ill skip those.... But hit the Haymarket district and there is also Football Friday event tonight in the railyard plaza on canopy street. (just look for the big silver spaceship we call the basketball arena.) Lots of restraunts right there as well. Tomorrow Haymarket or the railyard is again an option - the early games are shown on the big cube. Theres tailgating if thats your style under the overpass west of the stadium or across the bridge by the baseball stadium. and a kids fun area on the practice fields on the northeast side.
  9. It was good enough I laughed 3 times. Should get better as he learns about more of the staff dynamics and newer players. Does need a LOT more Gangwish though.
  10. They don't and it wouldn't be so bad if the vendors didn't stop bringing drinks around 10 minutes into the 3rd quarter.
  11. Everyone keeps talking about Taysom Hill, when imo this game is about Everyone NOT named Taysom Hil. Taysom Hill is a great player and will likely do Taysom Hill things... ie throw for just north of 220, rush for about 100 more and score 3 times. It's also likely Nebraska does what it should against BYU's Defense and scores in the 30-35 range. So really what this game comes down to is does BYU with a combo of their Defense, Special Teams and non-Taysom running game have enough to keep pace with Nebraska and get a couple scores when Hill isn't getting his.
  12. There is one change to the tunnelwak I want to change. The ending. You start with this huge buildup and it's awesome but it just dies abrubtly before half the team is even on the field. We need to keep sirius but just add something to the end to give a comedown that is more of a finisher not just a cutoff.
  13. Money comes and goes, championship memories last a lifetime. Easy choice. Take the 'ship.
  14. Doubt any Husker fan thinks BYU is comparable to a sunbelt or cusa team. That said the the talent level of BYU is very much comparable to Illinois.
  15. Couldn't hurt to call the tour office at (402) 472-3333 and ask. Generally they do tours on wed/thurs but with Iowa being a Friday game it may be different and you could work something out?
  16. Freedom. Got a wierd feeling this dude gets about 8 sacks this season.
  17. Look up the Nebraska Life Skills Department.
  18. Based on what Nike offered last time and what Addidas does, unless Nike makes a huge change the odds are pretty slim I think. Addidas offers a lot of perks that Nike did not that the athletic department values above cash or fashion statements.
