    Walmart is raising their base wage to $11/hour and offering paid parental leave. Almost zero large American employers offer this kind of leave. Hopefully other employers follow suit and this becomes the norm in America - we're the only major industrialized nation that doesn't offer this. American employers seem to punish families for having children. I always thought it was super weird.

      Ahhh, that explains it. I was always curious what attracted the barely walking to that position. I always feel like I should help them out with the carts so they don't hurt themselves.

      So IMO, even if that weren't true, we shouldn't leave this to the caprice of corporations like Walmart. There are ways to guard against it. Laws, policy, public social services and investments. Organized labor. We have the ability to use these instruments. We need the will.
