  1. For the first time since the Frost/Chinander firings, was disappointed with the coaching, specifically Whipple. It was clear Purdy was no where near prepared for the combination of our O-line and the Illinois D. While he looked bad passing, he even made Thomson look like Lamar Jackson with how slow he moves. Yet, Smothers could barely get a sniff. And with the "only" a 2 score deficit, Whipple seemingly called played to simply get the offense off the field. Would've liked to have seen Mickey take more command here.
  2. Tell me how you feel about Mike Gundy? His team looked worse than NU today. While I am disappointed with today's performance (mostly with Whipple's), I rarely see teams perform with an upward trajectory every week.
  3. I agree that Mickey can improve his case by winning games. I just don't think losses will necessarily hurt his case or it be the determining factor.
  4. From Trev's perspective, I bet W-L has little to do with Mickey getting the job. At most, Mickey is being asked to keep the ship from sinking: plug a few holes with bubble gum and add a little paint. He didn't create nor worsen Frost's rust bucket.
  5. And cheer as the winners go by
  6. Yet, we'd probably never know which "big name" coach was "missed out on" if Mickey is offered the gig. It's unlikely Trev will "settle" for Mickey if there's truly a better option that wanted the job.
  7. Look, Orgeron may not be who you want as HC, but he's still a heckova DLine coach.
  8. And in response to the original post, I'll add that the coaches some fans want to retain are in their first season here (sans Beckton). Can't really lay this s#!t show on them.
  9. Had me with the first half about Joseph then lost me with the race crap. Within the realm of college football, I always viewed NU as more of a trendsetter in the "raced doesn't matter" category. Had a lot of black QBs in a time when some actually thought skin color translated to QB ability (or lack thereof).
  10. I'm with @admoin this depate. You can throw stats at me all night long, and Thompson definitely flailed some odd ducks out there. Yet, if I need one last drive to try to win a game, I'm taking Thompson every time over Martinez. Even if Thompson doesn't always make the play he seems to better understand what play needs to be made, more than I thought Martinez did his last 2 seasons with NU.
  11. I learned I'll be perfectly content if the interim tag was removed from Joseph's title. I could nit-pic some of the game plan and specific plays, and the team has flaws that won't be fixed this year, but I'm pleased overall with what I'm seeing since the coaching changes.
  12. Wins are more important than a marketing gimmick. So be it if Mickey thinks this is best for now.
  13. And the one team with a pulse that they've played beat em. Unsure how good they really are.
  14. They did win the NC in "97, and was one win away from playing NC in '96. Then of course there was the NC game for the 2001 season. Unsure your logic holds water.
  15. Yes. Neither will be the next Husker football coach.
  16. Definitely the most empty sellout I've seen. At least in the Callahan years, Husker fans waited til halftime to empty a sellout.
  17. I have. There are like 3 people responsible for large portion of the posts and they constantly mention Meyer and Sanders. They'll likely be the ones doing most of the complaining when neither happens.
