  1. Texas was worse for 2 reasons- arrogant fans and there was more at stake. Met a Texas fan once who told me that the only reason people live in Nebraska, or any northern plains state, is because we weren't affluent enough to live in the wealthy South. Bunch of jerks.
  2. Good post and I agree with most of it. I've felt for many years that the players buy into all of the hype and haven't done a thing to earn it. They play in a palace of a stadium, see trophies and banners displayed for championships that they had no part of, get all the fan and media hype, tunnel walk, smoke machine , pyrotechnics, hype videos-- all the things that would make a kid feel like a superstar - and what have they done? Somewhere along the line, the coaches need to teach them to earn it. And one more thing - I agree about the negatively around the team , but the firing or the AD pretty much tells us what Coach Riley's fate is.
  3. Good bulletin board material for the Oregon fans. I'm sure they'll get their house rocking for Leach.
  4. Yes, exactly. I was there too and Memorial Stadium was absolutely electric from the moment I passed through the ticket gate. The whole atmosphere just felt different and you could feel the charge in the air. Score after score, Husker fans roared and the intensity never let up. Closest it's ever been since was that Miami game.
  5. When Pelini was fired, I was really hoping that Nebraska would go after David Shaw at Stanford. Stanford runs the type of offense that most Nebraska fans want and Shaw really gets the most out of his athletes. Would be tough to get him since he's coaching at his alma mater, but offer him $4-$5 million. Nebraska has the resources to try and get a proven Power 5 coach. We don't have to settle for an up and comer who hasn't proven himself on the national stage.
  6. The frustrating thing about it is that I'll bet Riley & staff coach the game of their lives and we somehow beat Penn State or Ohio State. We beat Illinois, Minnesota and Northwestern. Lose to Wisconsin, Purdue and Iowa.
  7. Exactly what I was thinking. Also, Coach Riley has said that the distance between Lee and O'Brien or Gebbia is "pretty wide". So if that's accurate , we haven't seen anybody else because they don't have anybody else. That's staggering.
  8. The game will officially be a sell out, but there will be a noticeable amount of empty seats. Since the East Stadium expansion, the upper deck is noticeably less than full for any mediocre game.
  9. I pass this "buy here pay here " lot on the way to work everyday called Payless Auto in Omaha. They have a fairly rough looking '78 Ford that runs and drives-- I'm assuming - since I've seen it in different spots on their lot . I like that era of truck too so I noticed it. There's pictures of it on their website and they want $1700. http://www.paylessomaha.com/mobile/Vehicles.aspx?Guid=b6ad241c-5a80-4af9-906f-13407188301e&ClearAll=true
  10. Not quite. Multiple times receivers had 3-5 yards on the db's and the qb just didn't execute. Can't fault a coordinator for lack of execution on plays that worked the way they were designed to. Also, can't fault a coordinator for deciding to throw 40 yards down field when another receiver running a crossing route is wide open. Plays are called by people who understand the game (not someone who just watches where the ball goes on a tv screen), they have to be executed by players.I'll second this. On every YOLO throw, our receivers had the step on the defender, and a better - thrown ball would have changed the game completely.
  11. I think we will see Langsdorf's true offensive identity once Tanner Lee, Patrick O'Brien or Gebbia are the starting QB. Pro style is what he is and what he knows. Sometimes, he has come up with excellent game plans and used Armstrong's talent- (Foster Farms Bowl being one of the best) - but most of the time, he never truly utilized a good, deceptive QB run game and his desire to run the pro style offense takes over.
  12. Oh, you mean the new President who has already chosen women and minorities for his cabinet? There are other forums for low information voters to discuss politics. Let's keep this one about football. I'm sure that there will be an attempt by NU's coaching staff to reach out privately to get more info about this and it will be addressed.
  13. Exactly . Quality o-line play allows a team to run about any kind of offense it wants . I miss our old power football identity too; and it hurts to get beat by teams that use our old formula. As Riley recruits his style of players , I think NU's offense will become more finesse and throw the ball 40+ times per game routinely . This will be our new identity . Callahan part 2. We also need a hard hitting defense. Notice how often Nebraska offensive players slowly got up and limped off the field after a tough Iowa hit?
  14. Rather than emailing the AD or the Chancellor, or the press ... Perhaps a fraternity with chapters at both schools could maintain the trophy and the exchange. The Missouri - Nebraska Bell was maintained by the Innocents Society and not really an "official" school- sanctioned trophy.
  15. I think Wisconsin fans won't admit that our program is the reason they are who they are. Point being that Alvarez copied the Huskers to help make them successful up there and it worked. I don't meet too many Badger fans here in Iowa, but the few I come across have been jerks and I suppose that's an aspect to the rivalry if there is one. I don't think we're trying to force a rivalry at all. I think it's becoming a natural rivalry at this point. Where when we joined the B1G it was like "Oh, you guys share borders, your rivalry is now Iowa." We're just kinda moving along waiting for a rivalry to happen. We don't need to force a rivalry, we're a college football blue blood, the rivalries will happen naturally. Alvarez's Nebraska- Devaney link is often mentioned; especially in regards to "Alvarez modeling the Wisconsin program after Nebraska". I find it interesting that many Iowa fans consider Alvarez another great coach from the lineage of Hayden Fry and say that Alvarez modeled his Wisc program after Iowa. Like others have said, we need to pound Wisconsin a few times before this becomes a two sided rivalry. Iowa though ... That's just good old fashioned hate. It is a rivalry. Their fans hate us and I hate them. It's fun to see them lose !
  16. To be fair, TA also had a four pick game last year and two three pick games, all throwing fewer attempts than Fyfe had. Plus Fyfe threw for significantly more yards in that one start that TA did in any of his....and two of his picks hit the receivers' hands. I swear some people just look at stats and don't even remember the games. Ok, sorry Mrs. Fyfe.
  17. I had a fortune cookie that said something similar. I agree with all of this.
  18. So you don't think the coaches can form a game plan with our other pieces? QB play is as much a product of the other 10 guys on the field as it is the individual player himself. Will we see drop off without Tommy? Sure, but to go as far as to say this offense is "done" is a little out there. I'm pretty sure Ryker Fyfe can throw a screen pass Form a game plan ? Yes, the coaches can definitely form a game plan. What I'm talking about is talent. In Fyfe's last start, he threw 4 picks. I don't think he has the talent to carry this team through the tougher parts of the schedule. I don't blame the guy, he hardly has any game time experience. My point is that it is much easier to shut down this Nebraska offense without Armstrong. I don't think Fyfe would be able to consistently deliver the ball to any receivers and the running game would become very one dimensional.
  19. I don't think the run production out of the running backs alone, without any threat of a qb run game, would be enough to carry the offense. If Tommy went out , this offense would be done. I miss the days of backups getting significant mop-up duty. There wouldn't be so much mystery surrounding the play of Fyfe.
  20. How about Rutgers? 78-0 to Michigan at home? How does that even happen ?
  21. Nebraska may be overrated at this point, but at 5-0, the record does speak for itself. I think the telling argument though is if Nebraska could actually beat the 13 teams ranked behind them. To me, the biggest thing that is separating Nebraska from Michigan/Wisconsin level is strictly o-line and d- line play. Those two teams dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides.
