@NM11046 I've somewhat recently taken classes with and taught 18-22 year olds. The opinion that it would be hard for a male athlete that age to respect a female coach isn't a very big leap. It's just reality. That doesn't mean that age group doesn't respect women in general, but they're less likely to feel comfortable about having a female coach. I dunno... just look at Cam Newton's comments to that female reporter in the fall. And he's older. There are women who could do it but it would be more difficult by default.

Or is it possible that a female coach might just recruit in a different way (not better or worse) or potentially recruit a different sort of athlete?  That perhaps she surrounds herself with kids who have the maturity to see talent, coaching ability and etc. and want to be around it and learn from the coach regardless of his/her sex.  I'd really be most curious to talk to a high caliper high school ball player and outline the record, history, coaching tree etc and ask if it matters if it's a man or woman.

College basketball recruiting is dealing mostly with the AAU coaches, who are some of the slimiest people on earth.  I don't have much faith in those AAU coaches being willing to work closely with a woman coach, no matter her resume.  The only way Hammon will be successful in college is if she has ace recruiters on her staff, and she concentrates on other aspects of the program.
