Biggest decision in program's history.....

This is not a discussion on whether or not a change needs to be made......that's a done deal, and even if it's not, I'm getting tired of same ol' topic...

Instead.....Does anyone agree that the next 2-3 weeks, TO is going to make a decision that will ultimately be the most important one in the progarams history and future....

I have a real "uneasiness" about this whole situation... I just feel that our biggest fear 4 years ago is ultimately coming true...... "revolving door"....." Alabama".....

TO needs to make sure that this next coach, or same coach is someone who is going to not only turn this program around, understand the fan-base, but feels as if this coach will stick around..... Of course, I am not trying to tell TO his job, so for some of you guys looking for a reason to "attack" or "argue"....please don't waste yours or my time...

My question I guess would be.... is anyone else very uneasy about the entire situation? TO retires, we all freak out....Frank takes the job (does fine....ok....), fired, Husker Nation a little divided on this..... BC comes in and Husker Nation still divided a bit..... 4 years later..... Most escorting BC to the door......

Now, if we don't get lucky like OU with Stoops (turns around program and stays)..... I am afraid that in 4-5 years, this may happen again....which is why I am uneasy , but realize the "enormity" of the decision about to be made...

I trust TO, just uneasy feeling about what's happening...... (not firing BC, just teh progression the programs taken)

How many coaches did Oklahoma go through between Switzer and Stoops? Two or three? We've gone through two, and could go through two more.

It won't be the end of the world if the next HC fails, too. It'll just mean it will take more time for us to return to glory.

We'll get there. I firmly believe that.

If Bo is the next coach, he will only be here for 4-6 years till he gets an NFL gig. If it were to be Turner Gill, he would be here till he retired, mainly because he is a part of the tradition.

If the desired effect is to get a "name" and build the program, go with Pelini. If the desired effect is to have a quality coach who will stay long-term, go with Gill.

the desired effect is to build the program back from whence it came. getting back on top and building the program will take hard work and dedication. i don't care if it is Pelini, Gill or Johnson, you don't worry about losing a successful coach until he proves to be successful and turns this damn thing back around. relax people, let's not worry about losing/keeping someone who is good until they have proven it first!

The thing we all need to remember is to be patient for once. This next coach has to be the right one because I definately don't want to go through this crap every 4 years! I agree that this is a very very important decision, but I don't think it's the biggest ever.

that and the fact that Ped is not making the decision and hopefully T.O. is......that should all factor into a good choice coming into the program as well. as long as Pearlman stays out of it, i will gladly live with T.O.'s choice.

Not at all. This is an important decision, but it's not the most important ever by a long shot. T.O has made tougher decisions before, like keeping Lawrence Taylor on the team. He took a lot of heat, but I still think he was right and he did it for the right reasons.

There have been many more important decisions than the next coach. :restore

Wow, we had Lawrence Taylor  ....... you meant Lawrence Phillips..... I know it was a typo....nothing personal....

See, I do think that the next decision he makes means a lot more to this program than any in the past....this program has slipped tremendously becuase of some of those past decisions, but if we indeed want to escape this cycle that we are about to embark in, then the next HC must be successful.... Our image is tarnished more than ever, and another 3-4 year cycle of less than stellar football and disgruntled fans certainly will not help....

If we get into this runt too deep, it may be a horribly long time before the "order is really re-stored".....

Folks, this next decision is BIG.....We need to win and win consistently for at least a 4-5 year period to get credibility back.... I understand that the glory days are in the past and the time of "domination" is long gone with parity, but we need to at least string 4-5 years of top 10 - 15 finishes together before we get out of this "national funk".....Face, if we struggle for another 3-4 years with the "wrong" hire, this time-tabel will be even longer than what we think.....

OU was down 10 years....Gibbs, Schnellenberger, Blake.....before they came out of it with Stoops......are any of you willing to sacrifice another 6 years to reach the OU comparison....If not, you realize what I am talking about !!!!!!

You mean Lawrence Phillips? If so, I fully agree. It was done for the right reasons and it is a shame what LP ended up as.

I'm wondering, because I have no clue, after TO evaluates the coaching staff, does he make the decision on his own? Or does he solicit (poor choice or lack of words) a few good close friends for support with the decision? And then, if he decides to hire a new coach, does he turn to those peeps for that support for their input as well? Interesting... Who would those guys be? McBride, etc?
