Would you sacrifice the sellout streak for more things to do around Lincoln and Omaha???

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure the OP meant if there were some other fun things to do around Omaha/Lincoln he would miss the games to do them. I think there's a portion of fans who think it is the place to be and go because of that. If there were other places ''to be'' we would lose some fans each weekend to those activities. Enough to kill the streak? I don't know. I think the question is asking, even though the die-hards would still go to the game, would you trade the sellout streak (a statistic, if you will) for a beach, mountain or pro football team?

I think the majority of posters get that. What I want to know is, what is there elsewhere that you can't get here? The NFL? NBA? There is night life in Omaha and Lincoln areas, restaurants and bars galore. Always huge events down at the Qwest Center, College World Series, casinos, one of the best music scenes in the country, etc. Just wondering what is out there that Axl can't do here. Perhaps he wants to not have to travel 30 minutes to go to a topless strip club.

It is definitely part of the culture in Nebraska. Out here, at the end of the sportscast on Friday, the announcer might mention that Cal hosts Oregon St. and Stanford is on the road at UCLA. That's it. They'll get a minute of highlights each after the game. In Omaha and Lincoln it probably leads the newscast some nights after a big game.

It is pretty safe to say that if people in Nebraska wanted to do something else, they'd do it. College football, and the Huskers are king in Nebraska.

I lived in San Francisco for two years. There are WAAAAAAY more things to do there than here in Lincoln.

Lincoln is a nice place to raise a family. You can afford a nice house here. You don't have traffic (minus the 6 and 16 county "first time on paved roads" drivers we have to deal with). There's a lot of pluses about living in Lincoln.

But let's not ever pretend it's comparable in just about any way to a major city. It's not. It's an overgrown college town with short-sighted civic leaders and a civilian population who thinks it should still have no more than 50,000 people.

Well no because I live in Kansas and don't have to worry about that because there are things to do here.

There are???? :dunno

Unless you're in north west kansas (where I grew up) than there is lots to do in kc area always good concerts at the sprint center, all kinds of fun in the legends area, worlds of fun and oceans of fun and a very cool panio bar called howl at the moon.

In the wichita area you have a lot of awesome shows lining up for the new intrust bank arena, wichita wing nuts games are always fun (esp on 50 cent beer night), and watching a movie at the old towne warren is a great time.

And if you are from manhattan as your name sugests aggieville is awesome. Nothing like it it is the one thing that the city has going for it.

What exactly is there to do that is so different though? I can understand "more", but that doesn't mean much if it's more of the same. This isn't sarcasm either, it's just my sheltered mind not being able to comprehend (I think of Lincoln as big).

I always have to shake my head when I hear the 'nothing to do in Omaha' comment. What is lacking?

A pro sports team? There is some form of local team for just about every sport, granted no 'superstars' but the event is still there. And the vast majority of people in 'pro sports towns' don't got to many games, they watch on TV like the rest of us.

A beach? I lived in SoCal years ago, and hardly ever went to the beach. Unless you are someone who would become a 'beach bum' most people don't go that often.

An amusement park? They are mostly for tourists anyhow.

When you really get down to it, there is just about everything here, just maybe not as much of some things. When people I know from SoCal have come to Omaha, they always end up amazed at how much there is to do here.

Lincoln's a cool town if you're either a college student or planning on starting a family. For everyone else it can be a bit boring, no major concerts, not much of a night life, low music scene, located in the upper Midwest, little national exposure. However for the most part Lincolns a great place to spend the majority of your life.
