The Official "What Are You Playing Now?" Thread

Max Payne 3 is under $5, so I think I'm going to get it for that reason alone. I also saw Splinter Cell: Blacklist is on sale for $30, but I haven't researched that game much. Gonna do that tonight and see what kind of reviews it got. For anyone that's been on the edge of whether or not to play Elder Scrolls, those games are really cheap right now too.

Awesome, I just broke my Wii. Was playing some gamecube games and it fell over and the disc drive is all screwed up. Ordered some tri-wing screwdrivers and going to attempt to fix it...i mean it's just a Wii but I've got a lot of virtual console games and game saves on that thing

Probably gonna play starcraft or super meat boy the rest of the night i guess

Bought a replacement ball-joint-style joystick for a worn-out N64 controller. Will report results once I do the replacement. I am in full "take apart and fix my old video game sh#t" mode right now.

Oh, and I also bought a better N64 controller at the Game Room in Lincoln...one of the biggest "holy sh#t I'm old" moments of my life. A couple 13-yr old kids were there by the counter as I was buying it and took one look at the controller and one of them went "What the heck is THAT?? What do you do with that thing??" ...it never occurred to me that the N64 would be way before their time.

This is why I saved all of my classic consoles (well, from the NES on) and I'm walking my kids through them. They love the games, and if anything, they won't be one of those clueless 13-yr old kids when you get another N64 controller. :)

Also, I've picked up way too much with this Steam Winter Sale. I'm trying out Starbound, Steamworld Dig, and PayDay 2 right now. But I've procured and voted enough that I've got multiples of the holiday badge. Sad, but true.

fixed :D i am a geeeeeeeenius!

Not really, I got pretty lucky. Took the console apart and removed the optical drive...there is a series of small gears on the side that make up the disc-accepting mechanism. I tried adjusting a couple of the gears and no luck. The gear-motor worked fine but something was just off-track somewhere and I couldn't figure it out so I finally took the optical drive apart. Again, couldn't find anything obviously wrong but during my dis-assembly/reassembly I must have fixed something - gave the drive a trial run with it just sitting on the table and it took the disc. Put it all back together, works perfectly. So I still have no idea exactly what I did to fix it other than somehow realigning some part of the gear series mechanism.

goddamn this is amazing. would recommend to anyone. Easy to install, works better than the original joystick, even if the original was brand new

Yeah, it's called 'go to the doctor and get a prescription for Viagra'. :-|

:-)

Seriously, though, glad to hear you were able to get it fixed. And I've got to do something similar for all of my cartridge games that have battery backup. Not looking forward to that, to be honest. Lot of watch batteries and agony as I open cases and see the battery has corroded the cartridge board...

  • 3 weeks later...

On a big Mario kick lately. Just did a full 120-star run of SM64, pretty easy. Working on Galaxy 2 since I never finished it. Then I'll probably go back to Sunshine.

Thinking about getting a WiiU just so I can play DKC Tropical Freeze. DKCR is one of my favorite games ever, just sheer platforming perfection.
